Former teammate: LeBron James would get treatment while clubbing
LeBron James may not be the exact same player he was several years ago, but he isn't that far off. This season, despite turning 40 years of age, he averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds a game and was named to the All-NBA Second Team.
He was already considered one of the very best players in basketball history about a decade ago. But these days, he has become a medical marvel. Superstar athletes such as him and legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady have seriously challenged the conventional thinking about aging and how long athletes can keep playing at a high level as their wear and tear accumulates.
James has been able to continue to play at a superstar level mostly because he has been maniacal about keeping his body right. In fact, Mario Chalmers, a former teammate of his from his days on the Miami Heat, said on the "Nightcap" podcast that the four-time MVP would even get treatment while clubbing.
"I tell people this all the time: Bron will really get treatment if we were in the club," Chalmers said. "He would literally have something on his knees or something on his back inside the club, so it's like once somebody's doing that, like that's real dedication to just be in the club with treatment.
"... Not ice bags," Chalmers continued. "It'd be like the stim machine shooting electricity in your knees, hamstrings, or lower back. He always got something that's recovery, making his body recover, so that's the thing once you see that, like that's a different type of dedication."
James could very well put up one or more additional seasons at a superstar level, if he wants to. He has a player option for next season, and while he could play on it and retire next summer, he could also opt out and sign a slightly longer new contract.
There are those who feel the fact that his youngest son, Bryce, can enter the NBA draft in 2026 could entice him to play beyond next season. Of course, having Luka Doncic on his side should help him age more gracefully, as he isn't the Los Angeles Lakers' main ball-handler or facilitator anymore.
