All Blacks make 10 changes to the starting lineup for the third rugby test against France

Washington Post17-07-2025
WELLINGTON, New Zealand — All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson has made 10 changes to his starting lineup for Saturday's third rugby test against France, naming hooker Brodie McAlister to make his debut from the bench.
Robertson pledged to use every member of his squad in the three-test series and he kept that promise Thursday after making only minor changes between the first and second tests.

The barefoot water skier with big medal hopes in European Championships

TOM Heaps is flying the flag for Warrington and aiming to spark up the European Barefoot Waterski Championships this week. The 26-year-old electrician from Grappenhall Heys goes into the event in Chartres, France, with high medal hopes for Great Britain based on his past record. Heaps, who trains at Weaver Sailing & Ski Club in Frodsham, has won multiple medals and titles at world and European championships, including silver in the jump event at the former last year. At the 2024 Europeans, he won four medals including a gold and heads to France as the 2025 open men's British champion in slalom, jump and overall as well as the silver medallist in tricks. He is a former junior boys' world champion and world record holder in barefoot jump. The former Bridgewater High School student will be one of 10 athletes representing GB from tomorrow until Saturday. Barefoot water skiing at competitive level is not for the faint-hearted. As the name suggests, the competitors do not use skis but only their bare feet on the water. They are towed by a boat which generally travels faster than for other water ski disciplines, reaching speeds of up to 45mph. Like regular – or classic - water skiing, barefooters compete in the three events of slalom (crossing the boat's wakes from one side to the other repeatedly), tricks and jump. In jump, the skier goes over a ramp in a superman pose and has to land and ski away. All that matters in jump is the distance achieved. Medals are awarded in each individual event.

Lymm gearing up for challenging season after league reallocation

EIGHT new signings featured for Lymm RFC in their first of three friendlies ahead of a challenging season to be played in a different league with added financial burdens. Lymm, who face a season of more than 4,500 miles of travel to away games, hosted Regional North West 1 side Anselmians on Saturday following a tough, pre-season training programme. A large squad of 42 players took part in a game split over three 30-minute sessions, scoring seven tries and six conversions to Anselmians' three converted tries in a 47-21 win. While generally pleased with the Lymm performance, head coach Andy Davies and defence coach Tom Bray identified areas of the team's game structure that needs improvement. These will hopefully be addressed in this week's training and Saturday's warm-up encounter away to National 2 North club Fylde, kick-off 2.30pm. 'It was a great first hit out against a tough Anselmians team who have improved greatly since we played them last pre-season,' said Davies. 'We had some new and young lads playing who showed up really well. 'Still lots to work on before the season opener so we'll keep on pushing for the remainder of pre-season.' New signings involved on Saturday were forwards Sam Wickes, Sam Beahan, Harry Wasdell, Lewis Stewart, Dalitso Ngoma, Tom Elphick, Dan McQuade and back, Matty Hope. Lymm's final pre-season game is on Friday, August 22 at home to Regional North West 1 club, Stockport, kick-off 7.30pm. The team's 2025/26 season in National League 2 West starts on Saturday, September 6, away to Luctonians. The Rugby Football Union have removed Lymm from National 2 North in which last season they played teams from the north west and Yorkshire and finished third, their highest position ever. Instead they have been moved sidewards into a league still at level four in the English rugby union system but provides semi-professional competition for teams in the midlands and south west. Lymm will be the most northerly club in the competition and will face expensive trips to far-flung clubs such as Exeter in Devon, and Camborne and Redruth in Cornwall. Teams making up National League 2 West in 2025/26: Lymm, Chester, Barnstaple, Camborne, Cinderford, Exeter University, Hinckley, Hornets, Loughborough Students, Luctonians, Old Redcliffians, Redruth, Syston, Taunton Titans. Announcing the sideways move, a Lymm statement reads: 'For a village club like ours – run by volunteers, supported by generous sponsors and powered by players who give their all for the love of the game – this represents one of the biggest logistical and financial challenges in our club's history.' In an act of defiance, veteran cyclist and former Lymm player Paul Foulkes, 75, is determined to raise funds for Lymm Rugby Club by cycling 580k (360 miles) in five days, from Lymm to Redruth. 'I decided I would like to diffuse my annoyance and frustration by turning this into a personal challenge, and cycle the whole distance from Lymm Rugby Club in Cheshire to Redruth Rugby Club in Cornwall,' said Paul, who has been a member, and latterly a vice president, of Lymm RFC, a registered charity, for more than 58 years. 'I hope to arrive in time for the first fixture ever between these two sides on Saturday, September 20. 'As well as being a personal challenge I am hoping people will get behind this gesture of personal defiance, against what I believe is a perverse decision. 'I am hoping the people of Cheshire, and the whole rugby community, will help raise as much as possible for the registered charity that is Lymm Rugby Club, funding not only the first team journeys but also the ongoing development of this brilliant and outstanding, community-based rugby club.' Five Ligue 1 wonderkids to watch this season 💎

The League of Talents. OneFootball presents the five gems to keep a close eye on for this new Ligue 1 season! Kendry Páez (18 years old - RC Strasbourg) Loaned by Chelsea to Strasbourg, the young Ecuadorian is announced as the future crack of South American football. Already the second youngest scorer in the history of the Copa America, the left-hander hopes to continue his progress in Alsace. With his smooth dribbles and beautiful ball striking quality, Kendry Paez should set L1 ablaze. 📸 Logan Riely - 2024 Getty Images Khalis Merah (18 years old - OL) While Lyon is facing a period of austerity for the upcoming season, the seven-time French champion will have to make do with the young players from the training center. Luckily, a talent is about to emerge! Full of talent and author of a good quality preparation, Khalis Merah, a young midfielder, seems to have made a place for himself in the Lyon group. Paulo Fonseca has even described him as "a player of the future". Interesting... Darryl Bakola (17 years old - OM) After playing a handful of minutes with the pros last season, Darryl Bakola could take advantage of OM's busy schedule to enter the rotation in the championship a bit more. Launched several times during the pre-season by Roberto De Zerbi, the young Olympian has shown good things with the ball at his feet, but also in his ability to project himself. In Roberto De Zerbi's demanding football, will Bakola be able to make a place for himself? Brian Madjo (16 years old - Metz) Born in 2009, Brian Madjo could, this season, be the youngest starting number 9 in Ligue 1! A Luxembourg international, Madjo signed his first professional contract with FC Metz at the beginning of the summer. A first step that should quickly be followed by another: that of his first minutes in L1. While Idrissa Gueye, the Senegalese striker of FC Metz, is announced to be leaving for the Premier League, the Luxembourgish prodigy could find himself as the number 1 striker of the promoted team or number 2 if the board decides to recruit a center-forward. One thing is certain: L1 will discover Madjo this season! Ibrahim Mbaye (17 years old - PSG) Being a winger at PSG means having to deal with the competition from Désiré Doué, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Bradley Barcola. Getting playing time is no easy task, but Ibrahim Mbaye can count on a coach who likes to play young players. Percussive and able to destabilize the block with his dribbling, the young Titi could well take advantage of a start to the season where some key players will need to rest after an exhausting 2024-25 season. 📸 ALEX MARTIN - AFP or licensors This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence.
