Phil Davis: 'I'm representing Bellator' at 2025 PFL World Tournament 4
Phil Davis is still flying the flag of Bellator going into his PFL debut.
Davis (24-7), a former Bellator light heavyweight champion, will compete for the first time since the two companies merged in late 2023 on Friday when he takes on Rob Wilkinson (19-3) in a light heavyweight quarterfinal at 2025 PFL World Tournament 4, which takes place at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla. (ESPN2, ESPN+).
Although the Bellator brand is dead, Davis still feels a strong connection to it. And given he is kicking off his run in the new promotion against 2022 PFL champion Wilkinson, he is still radiating with pride for his former home.
"I still feel like I'm representing Bellator," Davis told MMA Junkie Radio. "I love Bellator. It was a great opportunity. Shout out to Scott Coker. Great organization. … I think I'm representing Bellator in the PFL tournament."
Now 40, Davis said he thinks he's still in peak physical shape and capable of making it through the tournament format of three fights between Friday and August, especially if he can get arguably the toughest matchup for him out of the way in the first round.
Wilkinson is hardly a layup opponent, but Davis said he's embracing the challenge.
"I think they want big matchups," Davis said. "At the end of the day it's still fighting, and you have to bring a certain level of entertainment. So they wanted to start the tournament off with a bang, and I believe no matter what, in the finals, it'll be interesting and it will still have a monumental finish in the finals. They want to start the tournament off right with a tough matchup in the first round, then we'll see what we get from there."

Mario Bautista unfazed Patchy Mix's pre-UFC 316 hype, trash talk: 'Words mean nothing'

Mario Bautista unfazed Patchy Mix's pre-UFC 316 hype, trash talk: 'Words mean nothing' Mario Bautista remained confident amid Patchy Mix's hype pre UFC 316. Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: Mario Bautista post-fight interview UFC 316 winner Mario Bautista spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after his unanimous decision victory over Patchy Mix. NEWARK, N.J. – A lot was said in the lead-up to Mario Bautista's clash against former Bellator champion Patchy Mix, and most of it was not favorable for Bautista. Mix (20-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who debuted for the UFC this past Saturday at UFC 316 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., had tons of hype entering the fight against Bautista (16-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC), as some thought he was already the best bantamweight on the planet. Being the last Bellator bantamweight champion and having arguably the best resume outside the UFC, there were high expectations for Mix. The betting odds reflected that chatter and hype, as Bautista entered as a sizable underdog despite being the UFC veteran. Mix also had plenty to say, already angling a championship fight and saying he was "looking through" Bautista. There was a lot of noise, but Bautista kept grounded. "He was saying he was looking through me, but the whole time I was thinking, 'Well, I'm going to run through you,'" Bautista said at the uFC 316 post-fight press conference. "So I don't know. I can't pay attention to that stuff. At the end of the day, we get in the cage and the words mean nothing. I trained hard for this fight, and that was pretty much it. I won." Bautista shut down Mix over the course of 15 minutes and ended up taking home a unanimous decision win, while extending his winning streak to eight in a row. The MMA Lab product thinks it's time he gets a step-up given his body of work and wants a five-round fight against a title contender. "I definitely want a top-five (opponent)," Bautista said. "I think if Patchy would've won this fight, they would've shot him all the way to the top, so I think I took his spot and all that hype. I definitely deserve a top-five. I'm on an eight fight win streak, and there is no one else above me with a streak like that except for the champion."

Dana White: 'Jon Jones was offered the deal and accepted the deal' to fight Tom Aspinall

There may be some hope left after all in never-ending saga between UFC heavyweight champions Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. The MMA community at large has seemingly grown tired of the lengthy wait for Jones and Aspinall to have their long-awaited title unification clash, so much so that a online petition to strip Jones of his UFC heavyweight title has been created and signed by nearly 200,000 people, just to finally move on from the teased bout. Advertisement To make matters more frustrating, Jones has continued to troll the situation relentlessly on social media over recent weeks. But speaking Saturday following UFC 316 in Newark, New Jersey, UFC CEO Dana White indicated that he remains hopeful for the current heavyweight situation to work itself out. 'I've been saying [the Aspinall fight will happen] since the beginning, and Jon Jones agreed to do the fight [against Aspinall]," White said. "Jon Jones was offered the deal and accepted the deal. "Unless you hear it come from [my mouth] or we put out a press release, don't believe any of this bulls***. Unless we come out and say something, it's all bulls***. ... But yes, Jon agreed to fight Tom, fact.' Advertisement Jones' absence is becoming so prolonged that he's is closing in on making bizarre history as the longest reigning UFC heavyweight champion of all time, despite only defending the title once since winning it against Ciryl Gane in March 2023. Among his latest social media posts have been comments about not caring if he's stripped of the title and criticizing interim titlist Aspinall. Jones, 37, has even gone so far as to suggest he's more interested in a previously failed fight with PFL's Francis Ngannou than Aspinall. White admitted to having been forwarded the aforementioned petition to strip Jones of the belt by "every human on Earth," but hasn't kept up with Jones' latest ventings. "F***ing crazy," White reacted. "I've been busy, I haven't been keeping up with the gossip. [Jones] comes back either today or came back yesterday — he was in Thailand, so he's home [now]. We'll be home tonight, and Tuesday, we'll figure this out. Tom Aspinall's the guy. Advertisement "Listen, if the guy wants to retire and doesn't want to fight, [there's] nothing you can do. I didn't want Khabib (Nurmagomedov) to retire. I thought [Daniel Cormier] should have stuck around longer. It's none of my business. I'll do what I can to make the fight if we can. If he's talking that crazy s***, I didn't realize that." Regarding Ngannou, that's a door White has seemingly slammed shut in the years since Ngannou departed the UFC as its heavyweight champion in 2023. The UFC boss remains unreceptive to even entertaining the concept of Jones vs. Ngannou, stating that it's England's finest or no one at all for Jones. "It's Aspinall's fight. We've been talking to this kid forever about it," White said. "You can't make people fight. If Jon doesn't want to fight, we can't make him fight. We can try to make him fight. We can throw things at him that inspire him to want to fight. But we'll figure it out.'
