Maradu municipality hands over flat keys to housing scheme beneficiaries
KOCHI: Keys of
Mahatma Ayyankali Housing Complex
, constructed for scheduled caste (SC) families without land or housing within
Maradu municipality
, were officially handed over by opposition leader
V D Satheesan
on Thursday. The complex, with an area of 6,856 sq ft, consists of eight flats — each with a living room, kitchen, balcony and two bedrooms with attached bathrooms — providing modern housing facilities for beneficiary families.
Located in division 30 of the municipality, 20 cents was purchased for the project in 2015-16 spending Rs 87.88 lakh. Total construction cost amounted to Rs 2.68 crore. The function, chaired by municipal chairman Antony Ashanparambil, was attended by Hibi Eden, MP, K Babu, MLA, as well as municipality councillors.
In his inaugural address, Satheesan said
Maradu
municipality set a model for other local bodies through such exemplary development initiatives. He added that completion of projects focusing on holistic development of SC communities offers inspiration for planning similar projects in his constituency as well.
Marking the occasion, which coincided with World Environment Day, Satheesan also planted a fruit-tree sapling on the housing complex premises.

Gold worth 50cr used in Ram temple: Nripendra Mishra
Ayodhya: A total of 45 kilograms of pure gold has been used in the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, according to Nripendra Mishra, the chairman of the Ram Temple Construction Committee. He said the estimated value of the gold, excluding taxes, is around Rs 50 crore. Gold has been used extensively in the doors on the ground floor of the temple and the throne of Lord Ram. He added that gold work is still ongoing in the Sheshavatar Temple. While the main structure of the Ram Temple has been completed, other parts of the temple complex, including the museum, auditorium, and guest house, are still under construction. These are expected to be completed by December 2025. Following the consecration of Ram Darbar, Mishra said arrangements are being made for controlled public access to the sacred space. For now, only a limited number of devotees will be allowed to visit the Ram Darbar, and entry will be regulated through passes, which will be issued free of cost. The consecration ceremony has drawn large crowds to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. In a statement, temple trust general secretary Champat Rai, on Friday advised the temple visitors to exercise patience for visits to the Ram Darbar. A Ram Temple Trust official clarified that the newly consecrated Ram Darbar is not yet open to the general public. NMC & Green Vigil conduct awareness campaigns at Sitabuldi
1 2 Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Green Vigil Foundation celebrated World Environment Day by conducting public awareness campaigns at World Trade Centre, Sitabuldi and Sitabuldi Market on this year's theme – 'Beat Plastic Pollution'. During the campaign, members of Green Vigil Foundation and NMC team interacted with citizens, shopkeepers, street vendors on ill effects of usage of single use plastic (SUP), eradication of SUP, adopting circular economy, urgency of adopting green living practices and environment friendly lifestyles. The message was also conveyed through various posters and placards focusing on phasing out of SUP and adopting sustainable options with change in lifestyles and habits.
