His overall record is six wins and five placings, four of them seconds. Has accepted for Newcastle, where it is his preferred Heavy surface. Assuming he is absent, all roads lead back to the stablemate MARKWELL DREAMER (1) who is one for one here and is blissfully happy on Soft going.

PIEDI VELOCI (3) is a rather promising horse from the local Donna Grisedale barn. The long and the short of this son of Supido's story so far is that he is indeed talented but he is quite raw and is prone to beating himself. If and when he can execute, he'll rocket through the grades. IMPENDING FORTUNE (2) has drawn very well indeed and just could be better equipped or given a better lead-in to the 1400m. OL' MATE COOP (13) is costly but ultra-consistent.

TWIGMAN (4) is a son of the VRC Victoria Derby winner, Preferment, and actually ran in the Australian Derby himself. Still on pedigree matters, Twigman's third dam was the super-fast Newmarket Handicap winner, Ruffles. Twigman's 'best' is better than the rest here. SHERRIFF CODY (6) has a fine set of numbers right across the board not least that he has a second and a third among his three track and distance runs. CENOTES (7) can figure on his 'old form'. STROBING (11) is very fit and can stay.

HEAD OF THE RIVER (12) was bought by Proven Thoroughbreds for $100,000 at the 2024 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. This now three-year-old daughter of Shamus Award has been trialling up in Queensland like a 'good horse' and was dealt a 'winning draw' if he can convert. Speaking of good trials and good horses, Matthew Dunn's Yes Yes Yes filly MRS GOLDBERG (13) was so impressive when she won her 1050m Heat at Deagon on July 8. MOREBAR (7), the Noel Mayfield-Smith local, was better than it reads in his trial here.

If she runs here, she will have Jon Grisedale on again subsequent to their third at Grafton on Ramornie Day. SNITZENEGGER (6) is a huge player here but just wanted to point out his fascinating pedigree; yes, he is by Snitzel but his dam is pretty much a three-quarter-sister to Lonhro. DUPONT (11), POINT OUT (2) and PIERRE CARDINNIGAN (1) all have claims.

SAMMY CONQUERS ALL (9) is housed at Coffs Harbour by Angst's trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith. This son of Nick Moraitis's former iron horse Love Conquers All is on a hat-trick but better still, the first one was an easy one here at home in a Class 3 which he followed up with an away win on the Kensington track. Have seen SLIPPIN' JIMMY (5) do some really good things in the past, not least that super emphatic win here in a Bm74 on last year's Coffs Harbour Cup Day meeting. OAKFIELD DUKE (4) (Bullock) and LADY WARDELL (10) (Morgan) are well in this.

IT'S A KNOCKOUT (7) has a lot going for her but two things really stand out, for me anyway. One, she is a Group 3 placegetter over 1600m on the limit weight here, and two, barrier four for Ash Morgan is just a gift to the Dynamic Syndications mare. Granted it is not an out and out slam dunk, a horse like SIBAAQ (1) commands great respect and attention given his 96 benchmark rating alone. If there was a total blowout, it could be OSTRACISED (13). He is a local on a hat trick but can he run a mile?

WILD SENSATION (7) has done more good than bad in her 10 starts. She beat Hell Of A Fox to win her maiden on his home turf down in Canberra back in April. Fast forward to the present and this Matthew Smith-trained filly led throughout for a big Class 1 win at Scone on July 11 beating handy locals Cresta Run and Pindorama. On the right trajectory. BEEBEE (8) is a last start winner here at the home track. He's got a great draw and a great jockey (Luke Rolls). WAHINE GALAXY (14) and Boambee Beach stay under notice.

'Words can't describe': Wallaby star's emotional return
After fearing he'd played his last Test, James O'Connor is being lauded for delivering maybe his best performance yet in a Wallabies gold jumper. A record-breaking 17 years after debuting as a teenage utility in Padova, O'Connor pulled all the right strings as chief playmaker in Australia's extraordinary 38-22 comeback win over the world champion Springboks in Johannesburg. Only drafted into the squad following injuries to preferred flyhalves Noah Lolesio, Tom Lynagh and Ben Donaldson, O'Connor played a starring role in the Wallabies' first win at Ellis Park since 1963. Despite turning 36 next year and having only been used as a cameo finisher off the bench during the Crusaders' triumphant 2025 Super Rugby Pacific campaign, O'Connor controlled proceedings for the entire 80 minutes on Sunday morning (AEST). "Look, genuinely, words can't describe right now," he said. "That's personally definitely my favourite win. It meant so much. "It's been a lot of emotion this week, a lot of reflection. I thought my time in the gold jersey was done three years ago. "I fought bloody hard to get back here and the opportunity came with some of the guys getting injured, but I'm here now and I'm loving it." As well as slotting four conversions, O'Connor helped set up Australia's opening try for Dylan Pietsch that sparked the remarkable comeback from 22-0 down, then threw a magical two-man cut-out pass for the 65th-minute five-pointer from Max Jorgensen that virtually sealed the Wallabies' famous win. "He just grew into the game," said Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt. "I thought he got a little bit rattled in the first 20 minutes, just with the heat that the Boks brought. "But the longer the game went on, I felt he started to manage it really well." O'Connor readily admitted returning to the Test ranks after a three-year absence had been daunting at times. "I'm not going to lie," he told Stan Sport. "There's been plenty of times I've thought in my mind, 'Jeez, have I bit off more than I could chew here' because training's quick, everything's hard, everything's quicker. "And I thought, 'Man, I might have talked it up too much now'. "But the boys who got around me, they've looked after me and we've slowly just built into this game plan and, yeah, I'm really loving that detail that Joe's bringing. "He's allowing us to play and really execute in killer moments of the game." The 65-Test veteran agreed with Schmidt that it took a while to find his feet as the Springboks made a ferocious start to the Rugby Championship with three tries in the opening 17 minutes. "A scratchy first 20, but I could feel the gaps were there," O'Connor said. "The space was there. I just couldn't get the ball to that space in the first 20. "Then I felt we eased into the game in that second 20 minutes of that first half. "I felt like we built momentum well and we started to get some outcomes. "So halftime we spoke about it. 'Look, we're in this game, we know we can score points. It's just about trusting what we've built.' "That belief is strong in us now. We've been building. You could see in that Lions series that we're building belief. "So doubling down and there you go, that's a result, so super proud and stoked."

The puzzle that is the world's richest harness race became even more complex last night. The $2.1 million TAB Eureka picture was supposed to be so much clearer after four key races across three states last night, but they only served to underline the depth and intrigue of the September 6 race at Menangle. Leading owner Danny Zavitsanos is no closer to finalising his slot runner after his two contenders – War Dan Buddy and Fox Dan – both won brilliantly at Melton. At Menangle, champion thoroughbred trainer John Hawkes' brilliant three-year-old pacer Seathestars bolstered his claims for a slot with another brilliant win.' 'I thought I'd be able to make my decision after Melton (last night), but they (War Dan Buddy and Fox Dan) both went super so it has only made the decision harder,' Zavitsanos said. 'War Dan Buddy went terrific time and really burned down the back straight, so I'd thought he was right in the box seat (for a slot) after he won the first race (at Melton). 'But then Fox Dan came out, did all the work and left his rivals standing. 'If I had to choose right now, I think I'd lean slightly to Fox Dan, but I don't have to. I think I'll wait another week and we might even back-up War Dan Buddy in the Discovery next week to get another look at him. 'War Dan Buddy has the experience, but Fox Dan just gets better with every start and, being a three-year-old, he could potentially draw much better because of the preferential draw the three-year-olds get.' Fox Dan and Seasthestars add to the growing list of serious three-year-old contenders for the TAB Eureka. In the two runnings of the race so far, there have only been three three-year-olds compete, with Bay Of Biscay best of them when runner-up last year. There will be four, maybe even five three-year-olds in this year's race. Seathestars returned after a freshen-up following a booming fourth in the Queensland Derby on July 19 to brilliantly beat older rivals at Menangle last night. Hawkes and trainer Geoff Webster are desperately chasing a TAB Eureka slot. 'We've had some talks and that's why we took him up (from Melbourne) to race at Menangle, to put him in front of the people who might take him in their slot,' Webster said. 'He can't do anymore. He's really gone to another level this campaign and, looking at some of the three-year-olds who are likely to get runs, I think he's up with any of them.' Leading Queensland trainers Pete McMullen and Chantal Turpin are weighing-up whether to take Attachment to Menangle for the Discovery after his win last night. They had Wisper A Secret get into last year's TAB Eureka as an emergency and he ran a terrific fourth to Don Hugo. Bay of Biscay, Fighter Command, Hesitate and Call To Order are the four confirmed runners with slots in this year's race.
