North Korea's Kim Jong Un calls for more shell production, KCNA says

SEOUL (Reuters) -North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected military industrial factories, calling them to expand production of shells that meet modern warfare needs, state media KCNA said on Saturday.
Kim visited lines for pressing metals and assembly on Friday, checked the progress of shell production in the first half of 2025, and suggested new tasks for improvement, KCNA said.
"If we are to increase the production of new, powerful shells of that meet the needs of... modern warfare, we need to expand and reinforce our production capacity, arrange the production process more rationally, and constantly increase the level of unmanned production," Kim said, according to KCNA.
In recent months, Kim's publicised moves have focused on strengthening the military and improving ties with Russia, while North Korean state media has mostly stayed quiet on criticisms against South Korea as the latter picked a new liberal president this month.
North Korea has supplied Russia with more than 20,000 containers of munitions, according to a report by the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team, a group comprising 11 UN members, in May.

Russia and Ukraine exchange prisoners of war, but Moscow received no war dead, Russia says

(Reuters) -Russia and Ukraine exchanged prisoners-of-war (POWs) on Saturday, the Russian defence ministry said, and Russia handed over the bodies of 1,200 dead Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv. The exchanges are part of agreements reached by the warring sides during talks in Istanbul earlier this month. Ukraine earlier on Saturday confirmed it had received the bodies of its soldiers killed in action. However, Russian state media reported, citing sources, that Moscow had not received any of its war dead back from Kyiv, echoing a statement Russia made on Friday, when it said it had returned the bodies of 1,200 slain Ukrainian soldiers and received none of its own. The Russian defence ministry did not say how many POWs were involved in the swap with Ukraine on Saturday, but it posted video showing its soldiers holding Russian flags and cheering before boarding a bus. The Russian soldiers are in Belarus, where they are receiving medical treatment before transfer back to Russia, the defence ministry said.

Trump earns over $600 million from crypto, holds assets worth at least $1.6B

-- U.S. President Donald Trump reported more than $600 million in income from various business ventures including cryptocurrency, golf clubs, and licensing deals according to Reuters. The financial disclosure document, signed on June 13, includes details suggesting it covers the period through December 2024. This timeframe would exclude most earnings from the family's cryptocurrency ventures launched in early 2025. The report captures a period when the Trump family was beginning to enter the cryptocurrency sector while maintaining their real estate and golf club businesses. Trump's meme coin, known as $TRUMP, has reportedly generated approximately $320 million in fees, though the distribution of these earnings between Trump-controlled entities and partners remains undisclosed. Beyond the meme coin, the Trump family has earned more than $400 million from World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance company. The disclosure specifically notes Trump received $57.35 million from token sales related to World Liberty, and he holds 15.75 billion governance tokens in the venture. The report, which appears to cover the 2024 calendar year, shows Trump holds assets worth at least $1.6 billion. His recent expansion into cryptocurrency has significantly increased his wealth alongside substantial fees from development projects and revenue from his established businesses. Boeing Starts Flying New Planes Into China During Lull In Trade War

On June 9, 2025, a plane landed in China. That's actually a pretty big deal. Specifically, a brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 landed in Zhoushan, the site of the American planemaker's completion center for the country. According to Reuters, it's the first new plane to do so since April, when U.S. President Donald Trump raised tariffs on China to a whopping 145%, and China then retaliated with 125% tariffs of its own. That would make new planes, which aren't exactly cheap in the first place, prohibitively expensive. And even if Chinese airlines wanted to eat the costs, they were apparently legally prohibited, too, after Beijing put out a directive to stop buying American-made planes altogether. Call it air-to-air combat in the trade war. However, after negotiations in May, tariffs were dropped to (a still historically high) 30% by the U.S. and 10% by China. This lull in the trade war seems to have assuaged Chinese authorities enough to allow plane deliveries to resume. Read more: This Is Every Car Brand Killed By GM This particular 737 MAX, N230BE, might be feeling a bit of déjà vu, because it actually flew to Zhoushan back in April, just before tariffs started hitting triple digits. Painted in the livery of Xiamen Airlines, it was probably getting finished for delivery at Boeing's completion center at the airport when the legal problems started. Unable to actually give the plane to the client, Boeing flew it and several other planes all the way the way back to Seattle with no clear path ahead. However, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg had already indicated in May that China looked like it was getting ready to accept American planes again. This 737 MAX is the first indication that hand-offs to clients are set to begin again. That's good news for Boeing, which has been beset by problems over the last few years, including issues with the 737 MAX aircrafts themselves. How long this lull in the trade war lasts remains to be seen. The current tariff rates, set during the negotiations in May, are only meant to last for 90 days. A new round of negotiations are underway in London right now, but if they're not successful, 145% tariffs could rear their ugly heads again soon. If they do, expect whichever planes haven't been delivered to have to make the flight of shame back to Seattle again. Want more like this?
