PM Modi To Flag Off Kashmir Vande Bharat Express: What Makes It Unique
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a Vande Bharat Express train connecting Katra and Srinagar on Friday. In contrast to the 136 other Vande Bharat Express trains already in operation around the nation, this train contains a number of additional amenities to accommodate passengers' needs and operational difficulties in the harsh Kashmir weather.
Why Is Kashmir Vande Bharat Special?
The Vande Bharat Express in Kashmir is specially designed to operate in extreme cold conditions, including temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius. The train is equipped with heated windscreens so it automatically removes frost, improving the driver visibility in extreme cold conditions.
The train has advanced heating systems to keep the vacuum system running with warm air even when the temperature goes below zero. It also has thermally insulated washrooms designed to prevent toilet tanks and pipes from freezing.
Made under the "Made in India" initiative, the Kashmir Vande Bharat Express is equipped with advanced and modern technology and runs fully on electricity instead of diesel.
The train also has an anti-spall layer, which prevents small sharp pieces like snow debris and stones from flying into the train if the windshield or windows are damaged.
Kashmir Vande Bharat Express Features
The train has an air dryer system for heating, which means it removes moisture from the air and prevents the brake system and other components from freezing in extreme weather conditions.
It also features a 5 kVA transformer to power the train.
It is also equipped with fully air-conditioned coaches and modern amenities such as automatic plug doors, mobile charging sockets and CCTV facilities.
Two Vande Bharat trains will run between Srinagar and Katra via Banihal six days a week, except Wednesday. The train will leave from Srinagar at 8 am, reach Banihal at 9:02 am and arrive in Katra at 10:58 am. It will depart from Katra at 2:55 pm, halt at 4:40 pm and reach Srinagar at 5:53 pm.
The travel time between Katra and Srinagar will be cut by two to three hours with the Vande Bharat Express.
On Friday, PM Modi will also inaugurate India's first cable-stayed bridge, the Anji Khad Bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge.

According to Northern Railway, the fast train will run six days a week and will greatly reduce the time it takes to travel between the Kashmir Valley and the famous religious town of Katra. This is seen as a major improvement in the region's transport system. With the new train, the journey between Srinagar and Katra will now take only three hours, which is less than half of the usual six to seven hours it takes by road. There will be two pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains on this new route: Train Nos. 26404/26403 and 26401/26402. These trains will stop at Banihal along the way. What makes these trains special is that they are built to handle extreme winter weather. They come with heaters, insulated toilets, heated windshields, and defrosting features to help the driver see clearly even in snow and fog. Another train no 26403 will start from Katra at 2:55 PM and will reach Srinagar at 5:53. The same train will return from Srinagar the next day at 8 am. This service will not operate on Wednesday. The train has two classes Chair Car (CC) and Executive Class (EC). The price of a chair car ticket is Rs 715 and the price of an executive class ticket is Rs 1320. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the first run of the Vande Bharat Express trains between Srinagar and Katra. This comes after the successful completion of the 272-kilometer Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail line, a major engineering achievement that includes the world-famous Chenab Bridge, the highest railway arch bridge in the world. Sheetal, one of the passengers, told ANI, ' It's a great thrill and will be a good experience for us that Modi ji paved the way for us to visit Kashmir from here. We are all very excited for the views that this journey will offer... We had booked our tickets just to experience the world's highest bridge... The architecture of the bridge is so beautiful... Initially, we were scared, but when Modi ji himself stood there yesterday, it gave us confidence that it would be a safe ride.' Abhishek Arora, a passenger from Gwalior, added, '... We had booked our tickets in the first slot, as soon as the bookings opened... We will go to Srinagar and come back the same day... We just want to see the world's highest bridge, which is the highlight of this journey... This is a big achievement and was next to impossible. It was pending for hundreds of years. It will benefit every sector...' Loco Pilot Praveen Kumar called it a historic moment when the entire rail network in India was connected from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. On the train's special features, he added, 'The train has been modified to handle varying temperatures, especially as it enters colder regions like Banihal. Every aspect--from track design to onboard facilities--has been built with passenger needs in mind. Today's train is fully booked, showing how eagerly people waited for this moment. It's an experience for us and a matter of national pride.' Sharing his experience driving the train, he said, 'Today, the first passenger train is going to Kashmir, and this is a historic moment.
