PM Modi To Flag Off Kashmir Vande Bharat Express: What Makes It Unique

NDTVa day ago

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a Vande Bharat Express train connecting Katra and Srinagar on Friday. In contrast to the 136 other Vande Bharat Express trains already in operation around the nation, this train contains a number of additional amenities to accommodate passengers' needs and operational difficulties in the harsh Kashmir weather.
Why Is Kashmir Vande Bharat Special?
The Vande Bharat Express in Kashmir is specially designed to operate in extreme cold conditions, including temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius. The train is equipped with heated windscreens so it automatically removes frost, improving the driver visibility in extreme cold conditions.
The train has advanced heating systems to keep the vacuum system running with warm air even when the temperature goes below zero. It also has thermally insulated washrooms designed to prevent toilet tanks and pipes from freezing.
Made under the "Made in India" initiative, the Kashmir Vande Bharat Express is equipped with advanced and modern technology and runs fully on electricity instead of diesel.
The train also has an anti-spall layer, which prevents small sharp pieces like snow debris and stones from flying into the train if the windshield or windows are damaged.
Kashmir Vande Bharat Express Features
The train has an air dryer system for heating, which means it removes moisture from the air and prevents the brake system and other components from freezing in extreme weather conditions.
It also features a 5 kVA transformer to power the train.
It is also equipped with fully air-conditioned coaches and modern amenities such as automatic plug doors, mobile charging sockets and CCTV facilities.
Two Vande Bharat trains will run between Srinagar and Katra via Banihal six days a week, except Wednesday. The train will leave from Srinagar at 8 am, reach Banihal at 9:02 am and arrive in Katra at 10:58 am. It will depart from Katra at 2:55 pm, halt at 4:40 pm and reach Srinagar at 5:53 pm.
The travel time between Katra and Srinagar will be cut by two to three hours with the Vande Bharat Express.
On Friday, PM Modi will also inaugurate India's first cable-stayed bridge, the Anji Khad Bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge.

Delhi braces for over 44 degrees heat as IMD forecasts dry spell this week

Delhi is set to experience soaring temperatures, despite a damp beginning to June. Mercury is expected to touch 44 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather office also added that the capital is unlikely to receive any rainfall over the next five to six days. Delhi residents woke up to a hot and humid Saturday, with maximum temperatures set to reach around 39 to 41 degrees Celsius and the minimum hovering around 26 degrees Celsius, according to IMD. The MeT Department has now forecast clear skies, with dry westerly winds to dominate once again, causing a rise in temperatures. Authorities advise residents to take precautions against the heat and stay indoors during peak afternoon hours. Monsoon to return by June 12 The IMD has indicated a possible revival of the southwest monsoon between June 12 and 18, following a pause since May 29. The forecast offers hope for parched regions, as the monsoon's progress across the country has been notably slow over the past week. Delhi AQI remains 'moderate' Air quality in Delhi remained in the 'moderate' category on Saturday morning after widespread rain across Delhi-NCR a day before. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 169 at 8 am on June 7, compared to 137 at the same time a day earlier. The improvement in air quality is attributed to the rain, which cleared the atmosphere of pollutants. Air quality also improved across the NCR, with AQI levels remaining 'moderate' in most locations. Delhi's 24-hour average AQI stood at 161 at 4 pm on June 6. In Gurugram, the AQI was 157, placing it in the 'moderate' category. Noida and Greater Noida recorded AQIs of 124 and 118 respectively, while Ghaziabad's AQI stood at 128. According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.

Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat train BEGINS service, equipped with heaters, insulated toilets and 360-degree…; Check timings, ticket prices, stations and more

In a big step for better travel in Jammu and Kashmir, the Vande Bharat Express has now started regular service between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra from Saturday. According to Northern Railway, the fast train will run six days a week and will greatly reduce the time it takes to travel between the Kashmir Valley and the famous religious town of Katra. This is seen as a major improvement in the region's transport system. With the new train, the journey between Srinagar and Katra will now take only three hours, which is less than half of the usual six to seven hours it takes by road. There will be two pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains on this new route: Train Nos. 26404/26403 and 26401/26402. These trains will stop at Banihal along the way. What makes these trains special is that they are built to handle extreme winter weather. They come with heaters, insulated toilets, heated windshields, and defrosting features to help the driver see clearly even in snow and fog. Coaches include a heating system for sub-zero conditions in Srinagar, 360-degree rotating seats and charging points for passenger comfort The first train no 26401 commenced from Katra at 8:10 am and reached Srinagar at 11:08 am. The same train will return in the afternoon from Srinagar at 2:00 PM and reach Karta at 4:58 PM. This train service will not be available on Tuesday. Another train no 26403 will start from Katra at 2:55 PM and will reach Srinagar at 5:53. The same train will return from Srinagar the next day at 8 am. This service will not operate on Wednesday. The train has two classes Chair Car (CC) and Executive Class (EC). The price of a chair car ticket is Rs 715 and the price of an executive class ticket is Rs 1320. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the first run of the Vande Bharat Express trains between Srinagar and Katra. This comes after the successful completion of the 272-kilometer Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail line, a major engineering achievement that includes the world-famous Chenab Bridge, the highest railway arch bridge in the world. Until now, trains only operated on two separate routes: Banihal to Baramulla in the Kashmir Valley and Jammu to Udhampur to Katra in the Jammu region. With this new rail link, the Valley is now fully connected by train to the rest of India. The launch of the Vande Bharat Express is expected to be a game-changer. It will offer faster and more reliable travel for local people, tourists, and especially pilgrims visiting the holy Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. Thanks to all-weather capabilities and modern onboard features, the Vande Bharat Express promises a comfortable and premium travel experience, while also strengthening the connection between North India and Kashmir.
