Cincinnati Football Preview 2025: Bearcats Season Prediction, Win Total Projection, Top Players
Keep things moving. The running game really should be strong - averaging over five yards per carry is almost a must - and the passing attack has to do more to take advantage of it. Sorsby is experienced enough now to take more shots down the field, but the offense will be fine as long as he's making his throws. The Bearcats were 5-2 when he completed more than 60% of his passes, and 0-5 when he didn't.
Cincinnati Bearcats Key Player
Cyrus Allen, WR Sr.Again, the receiving corps is almost brand new from the portal, and it's Allen who has to be the game-breaker on the outside for an offense that struggled so much to come up with consistent big shots. He averaged over 18 yards per catch in his combined two seasons at Louisiana Tech and one at Texas A&M.- Cincinnati Team Preview
Cincinnati Bearcats Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss
Top Transfer In: Joe Cotton, OT Jr.The Bearcats have a few tackle options - they're deeper on the outside than in - and if all works well, the improvement up front starts with the 6-7, 315-pound all-star from South Dakota. There's NFL left tackle potential with his game.Top Transfer Out: Tory Johnson, WR Sr.The Bearcats didn't have any irreplaceable losses through the portal, but it would've been nice to have a seasoned veteran like Johnson still around. He only averaged 9.4 yards per catch, but he made 48 grabs with six scores. Now the Florida native will catch passes from Carson Beck at Miami.
Cincinnati Bearcats Key Game
Nebraska, Aug. 28The Bearcats are desperately overdue for a statement moment under Scott Satterfield. The win over Arizona State last year would've been it, but it didn't feel like it at the time, and it was the last win of the season for UC.The Big 12 schedule isn't all that horrible - at least early on - and Bowling Green and Northwestern State should be wins after this. Beat Nebraska in Kansas City, and boom - the Bearcats will be on the national radar.- 2025 Cincinnati Bearcats Schedule Breakdown

Cincinnati Bearcats 2025 Season Prediction, Win Total, What Will Happen
Start with this - Cincinnati will go to a bowl game. After the way the last two years have gone, don't blow off how much this will matter. To hammer this home, experience and a mix of upgraded talents won't be a problem. There should be a renewed excitement that things might be in place for a shocker of a run, and again, it all starts against Nebraska. Now here's the good part.
Even though the Big 12 will be a bear each and every week, missing Arizona State, Kansas State and Texas Tech - you really don't want to deal with the Red Raiders this year - is a massive plus. The Bearcats also miss Colorado, Houston, and West Virginia. The concern will be over the games against teams that underperformed last year, but should be great this season - at Oklahoma State, at Utah, Arizona, at Kansas. But again, there are enough wins to go bowling, and don't get into a twist if the Bearcats have a .500 record in the Big 12 - everyone will.Set The Cincinnati Bearcats Win Total At … 6Likely Wins: Bowling Green, Northwestern State50/50 Games: Arizona, Baylor, BYU, Iowa State, at Kansas, Nebraska, at Oklahoma State, at TCU, UCFLikely Losses: at Utah - Cincinnati Team Preview

Sinner lukewarm on expanded Cincinnati format
Jannik Sinner on Wednesday gave tepid approval to the 12-day jumbo version of the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Masters while confessing that he would actually prefer to keep the event to the usual one week length. The world number one will be defending his title at the final big event prior to the August 24 start of the US Open. Extending the ongoing Canada event - and Cincinnati - to 12 days with 96-player draws also means that WTA and ATP events in Canada will stage unorthodox finals on Thursday while play is beginning in Cincinnati. Sinner said that given the choice he would opt for the classic system of one-week events for an increasingly crowded calendar. "We (top players) cannot control everything," the Italian said. "The fans now have two weekends to hopefully watch some good tennis. "That is exactly what we need in this sport." But the Wimbledon champion who skipped Canada to rest after his triumph two weeks earlier in the final at the All England Club over Carlos Alcaraz added: "I would prefer a one-week event, it's something that I like. "But it's OK, I'm here and I'm very happy." Other top 10 players, including Novak Djokovic and Alex de Minaur, have also complained in recent days about the wholesale calendar rewrite which has the enthusiastic endorsement of the ATP and WTA. Sinner said that he enjoyed his time away from the courts, spending time at home with family and friends. "Then it was back to practice to try and get as ready as possible for the US swing." He said Wimbledon, where he beat Alcaraz after losing to the Spaniard at Roland Garros, "felt very, very special." str/bb

Here are the best first-round ATP matches to watch in the Cincinnati Open
After two days of qualifying, the first round of the Cincinnati Open is slated to begin Aug. 7 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The ATP main draw took place Aug. 5. Here are the top first-round men's matches to watch while the majority of the world's top players await in the Round of 64. More: Novak Djokovic out of Cincinnati Open for second straight year Will Gael Monfils notch another Cincinnati upset? One year ago, Gael Monfils became the second-oldest player to defeat a top 3 player this century with an upset of Carlos Alcaraz in the Round of 32. Monfils, 38, has reached the Round of 16 in Mason in each of his previous three appearances. Monfils will face Nishesh Basavareddy in the first round. If the veteran can take out the American wild card, Monfils would get a second-round matchup with World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, the 2021 Cincinnati Open champion. Monfils is 3-1 all-time against Zverev, though the two haven't met since 2021 (Indian Wells). More: 'Really special.' Here are the local products to watch in the 2025 Cincinnati Open Americans Tristan Boyer, Brandon Holt square off in Cincinnati Upon the initial release of the main draw, the only matchup featuring two Americans is between wild cards Tristan Boyer and Brandon Holt. Of the 37 nations represented in Mason, the United States has the largest contingent with 24 players. With a combined 3-11 record between them, one will start the Cincinnati Open on the right foot. Holt (0-3) has never won a singles match in an ATP Masters 1000 event, despite playing his way through qualifiers in Cincinnati last year and Miami in March. Boyer won a first-round tilt at Indian Wells in March and is making his Cincinnati debut. Will former Cincinnati open champion Borna Coric face Taylor Fritz? Borna Coric, who pulled off an improbable run to the Cincinnati Open title in 2022, is in danger of slipping out of the top 100 (No. 92). Coric lost in the first round of qualifying last year in Mason and will face Christopher O'Connell in the first round. Should he advance, Coric would set up a matchup with No. 4 Taylor Fritz. Coric is 4-1 all-time vs. Fritz, but the American rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Coric in the United Cup in December. Corentin Moutet begins Cincinnati Open vs. Mackenzie McDonald Fans in Mason may not know much about Corentin Moutet, but they could be educated soon enough. The 26-year-old Frenchman enters Cincinnati with a career-high ranking (No. 46). He has played his way through qualifying three times in Cincinnati but has yet to break through in the main draw (0-3). Moutet is coming off a semifinal run in Washington, a first-round win in Wimbledon and a runner-up finish in an ATP 250 (Mallorca, Spain). He'll face American Mackenzie McDonald, who reached the Cincinnati Open Round of 16 in 2023, in the first round. Phillies Ace Dodges Serious Injury After Sore Shoulder Pushes Back Start
The Philadelphia Phillies avoided a worst-case scenario with ace Zack Wheeler after imaging on his sore pitching shoulder came back clean. Manager Rob Thomson revealed Wednesday that he's pushing Wheeler's start back two days to Sunday after the right-hander reported shoulder soreness to the training staff. 'Wheeler came out of his last start a little sore — more sore than he normally is,' Thomson told reporters. 'He got an image done, it's clean. We're just going to give him an extra couple days.' Thomson added that Wheeler's July 6 complete-game one-hitter against Cincinnati 'affected his pain.' Since that complete game, Wheeler has struggled through four starts, surrendering 13 earned runs and six home runs, including at least four earned runs in two outings. He's been battling command issues while experiencing a slight velocity dip. Despite the injury scare, Thomson says he's not concerned about Wheeler long-term and doesn't expect him to miss a turn in the rotation. However, the manager is now hesitant to let any pitcher go nine innings the rest of the season. 'I hope not,' said Thomson. 'It bothers me, it really does. It scares me. It concerns me. When a guy's got a low pitch count, he wants it, so it's hard to take it away.' Losing Wheeler for any stretch this close to season's end would be devastating. If he's not healthy entering October, it would dash the Phillies' hopes of winning their first World Series since 2008.
