Newcastle misses out on another target; eyeing a move for this Chelsea's man now
Newcastle United's transfer frustrations continue this summer, with the Magpies reportedly missing out on another top attacking target. Benjamin Šeško, who had long been on Newcastle's radar, has opted to join Manchester United instead—leaving the Tyneside club scrambling for alternatives.
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has now emerged as a potential option for Newcastle. The Senegal international is being considered as the Magpies seek to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.
Chelsea, meanwhile, appear open to offloading Jackson following the recent additions of Liam Delap and João Pedro to their frontline. The 23-year-old had an up-and-down debut season at Stamford Bridge but remains a highly-rated prospect with pace, strength, and goal-scoring ability—attributes that align with Eddie Howe's style of play.
Newcastle's summer window has been marked by a string of near-misses. They were previously in for João Pedro, who ultimately joined Chelsea, and goalkeeper James Trafford, who returned to Manchester City despite Newcastle's interest. To add to their woes, Manchester United pipped them to Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, and Hugo Ekitike opted to sign for Liverpool.
The club's inability to land key targets has increased pressure on the recruitment team, especially with Champions League ambitions on the horizon. Jackson presents a realistic and promising option, assuming Chelsea are willing to negotiate a fair deal.

Leeds 1 Milan 1: Lucas Perri the new No 1 but Jack Harrison is booed again
Leeds United concluded their preparations for the 2025-26 Premier League season with a draw against Milan in Dublin. Anton Stach stole the show for Daniel Farke's side, topping a superb individual performance with a gorgeous long-range strike. The Germany international's effort, curled into the far corner from around 25 yards out, came midway through the second half as Leeds chased the game. Advertisement Milan had taken a first-half lead through Santiago Gimenez. The Mexico international was free at the back post to drive the ball into the roof of debutant Lucas Perri's net after good work by Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze down the left flank. It was an even game and a good final test for Leeds before they confront Everton on August 18. The Athletic's Beren Cross was in Dublin to take in the match at Aviva Stadium. Two weeks after his move from Lyon, Perri made his Leeds debut in Dublin. Most intriguingly, the Brazilian wore the No 1 shirt with its previous owner not even included in the squad. Meslier was conspicuous by his absence from the travelling party in Ireland and if Perri's mere arrival did not signal the end of the Frenchman's career at the club, the teamsheet in Dublin did. Perri played the first 45 minutes before being replaced by Karl Darlow. Perri arrived with some minor fitness issues, which is why Farke was probably being cautious with his minutes. There was one notably calm catch under a high ball, as well as a throw launched into Milan's half which set up Wilfried Gnonto on the counter. There will be a tinge of sadness for some at the prospect of Meslier moving on after six years of ups and downs in West Yorkshire, but it does feel the right time for him to sample a new environment and reset his career. 'We have decided, today, just to play two goalkeepers and, for that, it was then not necessary for him to travel with us,' said Daniel Farke of Meslier's absence. 'Karl is in the pecking order ahead of him because Karl had a fantastic finish to last season and also a really good pre-season. 'Lucas is also a player who is likely to play a role for us and, for that, we decided to give him the No 1 shirt. It's not a decision against Illan; it's more a decision for the confidence of Lucas, to make him welcome and also to show why we've signed him.' The Harrison situation is not going away. He was denied an Elland Road homecoming last weekend, but the vast majority of the 50,000-strong crowd at the Aviva Stadium left the winger — who spent the last two seasons on loan at Everton — in no doubt as to his current standing. Harrison was pointedly booed as he warmed up on the touchline in the second half. When he came on, predictably, it grew worse. There was the cacophony of disapproval as he jogged on for Gabriel Gudmundsson; then every subsequent touch received the same treatment. It must be said, there was one dribble which drew rebellious support from some corners of the Leeds fans. Everyone knew this would not be an ideal situation as he returned from two years on Merseyside. But, until Leeds can either bring in a new winger or receive some meaningful offers for him, theirs is an uncomfortable marriage of convenience. Advertisement Farke took the time to give Harrison some post-match one-to-one coaching — the kind we have seen him deliver to his players in the past — so he is very much part of the group. But, even if the manager has been diplomatic in his comments up to now, if Harrison remains at the club beyond September 1, this is going to become an unwelcome distraction. 'This (booing) was not a surprise,' said Farke post-match. 'It's quite normal and all supporters have a right to have an opinion. 'We had the situation also with other players who came back after a while away from the club. You have to convince everyone. In the stadium, if just one per cent or two per cent are booing, that means 1,000 voices and, of course, you hear it. 'I also liked the reaction of the other percentage. Whenever he touched the ball, they clapped their hands to give some support. 'It's still up to Jack to win everyone over and to show commitment, to show desire, to show good performances.' The quantity of midfield additions made this summer, together with the money forked out, always posed the question of what Farke may do in the engine room. Captain Ethan Ampadu is a given as a starter, but there was a debate on who could partner him against Everton. Stach, signed from Hoffenheim this summer, showed the quality against Villarreal last weekend to suggest he might have nudged ahead for second pick. This run-out left that in no doubt. He was outstanding against Milan. The German put in the complete performance, topped with a stunning, curled goal from 25 yards out. Stach is an all-action box-to-box midfielder who makes intelligent runs, tackles, shoots, passes between the lines and provides an aerial threat too. Tanaka got the nod over Sean Longstaff, who would have come to Leeds hoping to start more often than not next season, in Dublin. That may be because his incisive passing could be better suited to dominating Everton at Elland Road a week on Monday. We will see who ends up being Farke's preferred three, but this selection seemed to point to Ampadu, Stach and Tanaka on August 18. Jayden Bogle's ongoing absence at right-back meant Schmidt started for the second weekend in a row. However, he picked up in Dublin from where he left off at Elland Road; this was a difficult afternoon for the Swiss international. The 25-year-old needed more help from Daniel James on that flank and was exposed at times, but should have done better in some of his duels. If Farke wants his full-backs to invert and attack in the way Schmidt did, he needs to find a stronger structure for filling in behind him. Schmidt often stayed narrow when Leeds were out of possession — which is not necessarily the wrong decision but it gave Milan's left-sided players an ocean of space in which to attack. Time and time again, it was that space that Milan exploited. The No 33 struggled when they dribbled at him and appeared nervous. If Bogle does not recover in time for Everton on August 18, the experienced Byram may well be the safer stand-in. After the game, Farke said he hoped to have Bogle and Sebastiaan Bornauw back in training next week in the days ahead of Everton. However, he also noted the crucial fortnight of preparation Bogle had missed with his hip flexor issue. Spot the pattern. 'I beat Liverpool to title with Arsenal - now I want Reds to win more trophies'
New Liverpool coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who played a key role in helping Arsenal deny Liverpool the Premier League title, has expressed his hopes that the Reds will enjoy even greater success in the coming years. The former Netherlands defender has spoken about his first experience at Anfield. In December 2001, it was second versus third in the Premier League, with Van Bronckhorst starting for Arsenal as both teams were vying for the title. However, the Dutchman's appearance was cut short after just 35 minutes. Having already received a yellow card for a challenge on Sami Hyypia, he was shown a second caution soon after for going down under pressure from Stephane Henchoz inside the box. READ MORE: Milos Kerkez quickly makes up mind on Florian Wirtz after marking him in Liverpool training READ MORE: Liverpool has clear Alexander Isak transfer hope despite Saudi owners blocking Newcastle exit 'I remember I was sent off in the first half... I had one tackle or duel, which was rewarded with a yellow card,' the 50-year-old recalls while in conversation with the club's website. 'The second... well, actually I slipped and the ref thought it was a dive. It was a bit controversial, but still you cannot appeal [the decision]. I do remember the game, we won it in the end.' Arsenal went on to win that match 2-1 despite being down to 10 players and ultimately secured the Premier League title at the end of the 2001-02 season, earning Van Bronckhorst a winner's medal. Now, the Dutchman is looking to replicate that success in his new role with Liverpool. Although Van Bronckhorst had only faced Liverpool as an opponent before, he believed he had gathered enough insight to understand the kind of club he was joining. 'When Arne called me about joining his staff, it was part of my decision to come but also a big part of it was the club,' he said. 'As a player and coach, I've always been involved in clubs that are well-known throughout the world, were always competing for the top prizes. "As a player with Arsenal, Barcelona and, of course, the national team, Rangers, and Feyenoord in Holland, so it's the environment I had all my life as a player. 'I feel I have the same experience with the size of the club Liverpool is, with how it stands in society. It is very important for the city, it is a club that is well connected within the community and I think that's also really, really nice. "I have been here now for a few weeks, but I could sense how big the club is straight away – including when we were in Hong Kong and Tokyo. You could feel Liverpool is well loved there and how many fans we have across the world, even to watch our training sessions. "Once the season starts with a big game against Crystal Palace and then the start of the Premier League, you can see everyone wants to give everything every day to be as well prepared as we can be for the start."

Amorim names four traits that make Sesko a dream fit for Man United
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has highlighted four qualities that make Benjamin Sesko the ideal striker for the club. United unveil Sesko After weeks of pursuing Sesko and fighting it out with Premier League rivals Newcastle for his signature, United finally reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the player on Thursday. Sesko jetted to Manchester the same day to complete his medical and put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Red Devils. On Saturday morning, United released a statement confirming the Slovenian's arrival. He has joined United for an initial £66.4million plus an additional £7.3m in add-ons. Sesko was unveiled at Old Trafford just before the start of the pre-season meeting with Fiorentina. He was presented at the stadium alongside fellow new signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon. The 22-year-old's move to United marks the end of the club's chase for a striker. Amorim spoke to MUTV and expressed confidence that Sesko has what it takes to hit the ground running at United and become a success. In particular, Amorim named four attributes that make Sesko perfect for United. Amorim on Sesko Amorim said, 'He has the characteristics that we needed. Ben is a player with all the information that we have, that we need to stop the guy from working, not the opposite!' 'So that is also important. He's really young. He's good in the air, he's good at running the channels, good on the ball.' 'I think he has great potential. I think he can improve a lot and, for sure, he is going to feel at home in our club. He has the right character to be in this group, so I'm really happy to have him.' Amorim acknowledged that Sesko is joining a squad that is fully focused on playing well and producing results ahead of the upcoming season. 'That is important. He is going to notice, since the first day and first training, that he is in the right place.' 'He is going to a new building [at Carrington], that is also important. Things are getting better but, in the end, we need to win games.' Up next for United is Arsenal on Sunday, 17 August. Featured image Matt McNulty via Getty Images online polls Follow us on Bluesky: @
