Cowboys' preseason schedule to kick off with Rams during Oxnard stay
It didn't warrant its own video, but the Cowboys' 2025 preseason schedule was also revealed on Wednesday night. And while the three games making up this year's exhibition slate won't count in the standings, they will mark the first time this iteration of the Cowboys will take the field against an opposing team, as well as the actual head coaching debut of Brian Schottenheimer.
Whatever the Cowboys will be in this first year under Schottenheimer, it will almost assuredly begin to show itself in these three preseason games.
The Cowboys' preseason will kick off Saturday, Aug. 9 with a meeting with the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. As has become the norm, the preseason opener will be played on the West Coast and coincide once again with the team's training camp stay in nearby Oxnard. Schottenheimer has already said he hopes to organize a joint practice or two with Sean McVay's squad while in California.
The remainder of the Cowboys' preseason schedule will be played at home. The team will welcome the Baltimore Ravens to AT&T Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 16; the preseason finale will be held Friday, Aug. 22 when the Atlanta Falcons come to town.
That will leave the Cowboys with less than two weeks to get ready for their regular-season opener in Philadelphia against the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 4.

ESPN Trade Proposal Sends Trey Hendrickson to Bills

ESPN Trade Proposal Sends Trey Hendrickson to Bills originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills are in an arms race with the rest of the AFC, but they are also in a race against time. Super Bowl windows don't last forever, and while having Josh Allen under center means it won't slam shut, each passing season increases the likelihood that one of the titans of the sport walks away empty-handed. Advertisement As such, urgency remains high in Orchard Park. The Bills clearly aren't afraid to acquire talent via trade or signing. Twice, Buffalo has acquired post-prime edge rushers to chase down the conference's best quarterbacks. However, signing Joey Bosa isn't necessarily enough to get over the hump, especially after an offseason injury clouded his production. That lends itself to additional speculation, including a recent brainstorm from ESPN, linking Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson. The Bills' hypothetical trade proposal lands the final piece of a championship defense for just a 2026 second-round pick. 'The Bengals have made it clear they don't want to give away Hendrickson, so I'm not even sure the Bills' (likely late) second-rounder would be enough,' ESPN said of Dan Graziano's offer. 'But if the Bengals' demands drop, I could see Buffalo pouncing to secure the veteran edge rusher it needs to take down Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs. Advertisement 'With offseason pickup Joey Bosa already injured, this move would help the Bills' pass rush add a stronger, healthier option. Hendrickson might not get the new contract of his dreams, but perhaps Bills general manager Brandon Beane could sell him on an improved chance to get to the Super Bowl.' The biggest obstacle to this deal getting across the finish line is the balance of power in the AFC. Like Buffalo, Cincinnati is dangerous – no matter what – with quarterback Joe Burrow. It took an act of Godly sabotage to make a defense so bad a season ago, and the Bengals aren't incentivized to make one of their main competitors even better while making their defense worse. However, pairing Hendrickson with Gregory Rousseau along the edge with two quality starters between them at tackle would be Buffalo's best attempt at mirroring the Philadelphia Eagles, who beat Kansas City in the trenches to win the Super Bowl. The Bills have a quarterback capable of going toe-to-toe with the best player in the sport. It is worth paying for a defense that can do the same. Eagles DC Delivers Confident Message After Critical Losses

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. For the Philadelphia Eagles, winning the trenches has been a primary reason behind their success in the past. That was especially true during the team's most recent run, which was capped off with a Super Bowl victory. The Eagles' offensive line won't have a ton of turnover heading into the 2025 NFL season. The same can't be said for the defensive side. Oftentimes, winning comes at a great cost. The Eagles witnessed their pass rush feast on Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl just months ago, but they also witnessed teams line up to pay some of the free agents, causing some Philadelphia stars to walk out the door. A little worry would only make the Eagles human. The team's defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, recently fielded questions about the state of his defensive line. The Eagles prepared for the cost of success, and Fangio remains confident in his team's ability to stay strong after some key losses in free agency. "I feel good about Nolan [Smith]. "I think we'll feel good about Jalyx [Hunt] now that he's gonna get a lot of reps and develop," Fangio told reporters, according to Pro Football Talk. "He played good for us down the stretch last year, and played a lot, as you saw, so I feel good about those two guys, and I think they'll continue to improve." "We've got [Josh] Uche, we've got Azeez [Ojulari], we've got three other guys there. I think we'll be fine." Josh Sweat, a homegrown defensive lineman for the Eagles, took his talents to the Arizona Cardinals. He leaves the Eagles with 104 regular-season games under his belt. He collected 43 sacks over that time, including nearly three in this past postseason. The 2021 third-rounder, Milton Williams, is another player who cashed out this offseason. Since his rookie season, Williams has played in 67 games, with 19 starts. He collected 132 tackles (25 for a loss), 11.5 sacks, and nearly 30 hits on opposing QBs. Williams leaves the Eagles for a run with the New England Patriots. Beyond the younger players who picked up a big payday, the Eagles also lost their seasoned veteran, Brandon Graham, to retirement. Eventually, Graham's age caught up to him throughout the 2024 NFL season, but without injuries he was still quite productive. The Eagles will face a ton of tests in 2025, and how they perform up front on defense will be the biggest question heading into the new year. It's easy to assume that all will be right for Fangio's unit, but the Eagles don't see a reason to be overly concerned at this time.

Lamar Jackson Faces Backlash for Big $1.5 Million Decision

Lamar Jackson Faces Backlash for Big $1.5 Million Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Baltimore Ravens have wrapped up voluntary OTAs, and the most noticeable absence was star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who chose to skip the sessions for the second consecutive year. Advertisement That decision carries financial consequences due to the structure of Jackson's contract. Much like the approach often used by the Dallas Cowboys, the deal Jackson signed in 2023 includes annual $750,000 workout bonuses in 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027. To earn each bonus, Jackson is required to attend at least 80% of the team's offseason workouts. Now, after missing workouts for a second straight year, Jackson has forfeited a total of $1.5 million in potential bonus money. Jackson has faced backlash from fans who believe he should be attending workouts, especially after multiple playoff exits. A fan said, "Maybe they'd beat the Chiefs if he gave a [explicit]." Advertisement Someone else added, "Why did his 'agent' allow that money to be put into workouts he had no intention of attending?" Another fan posted, "Another example of why he will never win a Super Bowl. Tom Brady never missed these workouts btw, and he was levels above you pal." "He should never complain about a contract ever again. If you can afford to not collect 1.5 million," one more fan commented. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (8).Tommy Gilligan-Imagn Images Showing up to voluntary workouts or not has not noticeably affected Jackson's on-field performance, as he has consistently been one of the NFL's best players year after year. That said, as the leader of a franchise, there are expectations that come with the role. When you don't have the ultimate goal—a Lombardi Trophy—to show for it, especially when your peers like Patrick Mahomes do, it naturally invites some criticism and heat.
