Law enforcement warns parents about 'senior assassin' game after teenager was shot
There is growing concern over the dangers of a high school game being played by seniors in our area.
On Wednesday an off-duty Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent shot a Bishop Kenny High student in the arm while he was playing 'senior assassins' in Nassau County.

Deputies said the FLDE agent saw three people prowling outside their home holding what appeared to be a gun.
'The water guns often look like real firearms, certainly in the dark,' said State Attorney Melissa Nelson.
Action News Jax asked Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper if the agent identified herself as law enforcement before shooting the teen.
He said the agent is not required to do that.
'There's no requirement,' said Sheriff Leeper. 'She is a homeowner. Someone's coming into her property. She's not going into someone else's property. She's off duty. She is protecting what she has.'
Action News Jax also asked if the teens were told to drop their weapons before the shooting. Sheriff Leeper said that is still under investigation.
Law enforcement leaders urge parents to have conversations with their kids about the game. And they are calling on others to help ensure that Wednesday's incident does not repeat itself.
'School administrators, elected school board members, head of schools, and parents, please help us in calling an end to these contests,' said Nelson. 'It might seem like a game and certainly it seems fun to young kids, but the consequences could be deadly.'

[DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] JSO said it responded to the scene around 2 P.M., where officers found a man in his late 30s with one gunshot wound to the chest. Employees from a coffee shop next door told Action News Jax that they heard multiple gunshots while in the parking lot just before police arrived. The man was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital by fire rescue, but did not survive. JSO said Wednesday evening that its investigation revealed the man was there for a meeting of some kind. Three people of interest were detained for interviews, but it's unclear if any of them were the shooter. JSO said it was still looking for one vehicle of interest, a black four-door car that may be a Nissan. The car left the parking lot and drove southbound on Southside Boulevard. Anyone with information on the shooting or suspects involved is asked to reach out to JSO or Crime Stoppers. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Jacksonville man arrested, accused of making online threat to run over ICE protesters
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that it arrested a man accused of threatening to run over people protesting against ICE. JSO said it received a tip about the social media threat on Tuesday, which its Intelligence Unit linked back to 26-year-old Zachary Degross. Detectives visited Degross's home Wednesday, where JSO said he willingly submitted to an interview about the post, in which the writer threatened to 'grab my buddies tow truck and plow through' groups of protesters. Below is a screenshot of the threat, provided by JSO: 'It is your constitutional right to peacefully protest. What you do not have the right to do is threaten others,' said JSO on Wednesday. Degross was arrested and booked into the Duval County jail on a second-degree felony charge, Sending Written Threats to Conduct an Act of Terrorism. 'If you are making threats online to harm others, even if you don't intend to follow through with that action, we will arrest you,' said JSO. 'We are monitoring protests nationwide, and we will continue to work hard to protect everyone in Jacksonville.' Anyone who sees a threat online about harming others is encouraged to report it to law enforcement. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks]
