Not Just Making Criminals Sing: Top Bengal IPS Officer Pens Item Number For Upcoming Cop Drama

News1801-06-2025
Murlidhar Sharma, inspector general in West Bengal, has written the track Shor Machaa, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Rana Mazumder for the Bengali film Mrigaya
In a surprising crossover, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Murlidhar Sharma, inspector general in West Bengal, has penned the lyrics for a Hindi item number in the upcoming Bengali film Mrigaya, releasing on June 27.
Known for his sharp investigative skills during his terms with Bengal and Kolkata police, Sharma enters the world of film music with the energetic track Shor Machaa, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Rana Mazumder. The song opens with the line 'DJ pe mast koi gaana baja, jab tak yeh saans hai shor machaa" (Play a wild song on DJ… make noise as long as this breath lasts).
This high-energy item number from the cop drama has already become a hit. While many assumed a seasoned Bollywood or Tollywood lyricist penned it, the creator is the 2005-batch IPS officer who has a passion for Urdu ghazals and poetry.
Sharma, who began writing nearly 30 years ago during his student days, is deeply influenced by Urdu literature and has penned numerous ghazals. However, writing for a commercial film, especially a dance number, was unexpected.
In a conversation with News18, Sharma recalled his initial hesitation. 'I was approached by music director Rana Mazumder and Debasish Dutta (OC, Maniktala Police Station, and also the writer of the film). When they told me it was for an item song, I declined. I usually write Urdu ghazals born out of personal reflection, not based on scripted situations. I said it wasn't my cup of tea. But they persuaded me. I told them I will try. I scribbled a few lines and sent them to Rana Mazumder. He liked them. Now that it's out, I'm really happy with how it turned out," Sharma added.
Directed by Abhirup Ghosh, Mrigaya features Ritwik Chakraborty, Vikram Chatterjee, Anirban Chakrabarti, and Saurav Das. The story revolves around a gripping murder investigation, promising suspense and intense action sequences.
The filmmakers say approaching Sharma was natural; he is well-known among them as a gifted lyricist.
With Mrigaya, viewers will see a rare fusion: police action on screen and a police officer's poetry in a song, proving creativity and public service are not always mutually exclusive.

Chef Sanjeev Kapoor Gives A Masterclass On Staying Fit At 61 Without Quitting Chole Bhature

For many Indians, the first brush with cooking on television came through Sanjeev Kapoor. Long before recipe videos flooded social media, his calm presence on Khana Khazana made food feel exciting and achievable for every home cook. Decades later, while he has grown into a global culinary figure, what stands out is his love for the simplest of pleasures. His comfort food? A plate of piping hot chole bhature. What makes Chef Sanjeev remarkable is that even in his 60s, when most people worry about avoiding fried and heavy meals, he doesn't think the same way. Instead, he has mastered a philosophy of balance, where food is to be enjoyed and fitness is achieved through mindful living rather than rigid diets. Food Is Joy, Not Numbers For Sanjeev Kapoor, food isn't just fuel, but it's tied to emotions, nostalgia, and togetherness. He doesn't believe in demonising any dish. "In fact, while in New Delhi, I couldn't resist eating chole bhature, gol gappe, and Bengali sweets before coming to the event," the chef tells HT Lifestyle during an event. His philosophy is simple: no food should be labelled the villain. Portion Control Over Prohibition Instead of avoiding his favourites, the celebrity chef focuses on eating in moderation. "Savour, don't stuff," he says. A small plate of chole bhature satisfies his craving, but he ensures the next meal is lighter, like a soup or grilled vegetables. Sanjeev Kapoor also swears by eating fresh, seasonal produce. Not only does it taste better, but it's more nutritious and easier to digest. He further enjoys local delicacies wherever he travels and makes eating food an experience rather than a restriction. Fitness Beyond The Gym Unlike many who rely on heavy workouts, Sanjeev Kapoor's activity comes from his lifestyle, including long walks, constant movement in the kitchen, travelling, and engaging with people. His daily step count, tracked on his phone, reflects his naturally active routine. Sleep And Mindfulness Matter Alongside food, the celebrity chef stresses the importance of restful sleep. Good-quality rest, he believes, recharges both body and mind. "A peaceful and comforting sleep is not only good for your mental health, but also keeps you physically fit and active," explains Sanjeev Kapoor. In an era of strict diet plans and fitness fads, Sanjeev Kapoor's approach feels refreshingly real. At 61, with energy and enthusiasm still intact, he is living proof that you can love your chole bhature and still stay fit.

Tiger Shroff embodies PKL's fierce spirit in new ad

JioStar has unveiled the second film from its action-packed campaign for Season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League , titled ' Ghus Kar Maarenge. ' The film features actor Tiger Shroff in a charged cinematic spot that sets the tone for the new season. This marks the second installment in a series of campaign films that will roll out across regions in the lead-up to PKL Season 12 which begins on August 29, 2025, live and exclusive on JioHotstar and Star Sports Network . Conceptualised by creative agency ZeroFifty, the adrenaline-pumping film opens to a group of agitated thuggish neighbours baying for a confrontation with Shroff at the gates of his house. He steps out in his own inimitable style, completely unfazed, and slowly walks towards them, emulating the controlled aggression seen in Kabaddi players. As Shroff comes face to face with the neighbours, he defiantly challenges them saying, ' Ghus kar maarne ki baatein toh sab karte hain, par yahaan hum kar ke dikhate hain ' (everyone talks about going on the offensive and striking, but here we do it and show it). Thematically, Ghus Kar Maarenge underscores the aggression and high-impact action that the league promises this season, rallying fans to witness kabaddi at its fiercest. The film concludes with the thought that it's not just about talking tough—it's about backing it up, just like kabaddi heroes do. The film has been released in Hindi and Marathi. 'This is going to be the most exciting season of Pro Kabaddi League yet. With changes in the format and gameplay that promise even more edge-of-the-seat action, we wanted a campaign and a face that embodies this elevated intensity," said a JioStar Spokesperson. "In Tiger Shroff we found the perfect personality and the idea of ' Ghus Kar Maarenge ' aptly articulates the mindset of every player who steps onto the mat.' Speaking on being a part of the campaign, Shroff said, 'Being part of the Pro Kabaddi League feels raw, real, and truly Indian. There's an unmatched intensity in Kabaddi, it demands not just strength but fearless intent and total conviction. I've always admired how sports unravel our competitive side, and Kabaddi in particular showcases the sheer grit, resilience, and determination in every player. As we gear up for the most high-octane season yet, I'm excited to witness India's toughest athletes rise to the challenge once again.'
