Amaravati: YSRCP launched a scathing attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu after two former bureaucrats were arrested pertaining to the alleged liquor scam during the previous YSRCP government. Accusing the Andhra CM of 'indulging in political vendetta' YSRCP leader B Satyanarayana on Friday said, 'Chandrababu Naidu is indulging in political vendetta, damaging the state's administrative systems… false cases and fabricated evidence are being created, even against retired officials.'
Dhanunjaya Reddy and Krishna Mohan Reddy were arrested this evening, following prolonged questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the alleged Rs 3,200-crore liquor scam.
Dhanunjaya, a retired IAS officer, was a key official during the YSRCP government, while Krishna Mohan worked as the officer on special duty (OSD) for former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Condemning the duo's arrest, the leader of opposition in the Legislative Council alleged that this move by the TDP-led NDA government in the state is a clear act of political vengeance, and termed it a dangerous attack on democratic institutions.
According to Satyanarayana, no concrete proof has been presented in the case, 'yet arrests are being made.' Echoing Satyanarayana, YSRCP leader G Srikanth Reddy asserted that 'political vendetta has reached alarming levels' in Andhra Pradesh, and alleged that several IAS and IPS officers had already been harassed and now even retired officers are being targeted.
Merugu Nagarjuna, a former minister and senior YSRCP leader, and other party leaders, too, echoed similar sentiments and condemned the arrests as 'political vendetta.'

They reiterated that using terrorist proxies for cross-border terrorism, terror financing, dissemination of a radical ideology and abuse of cyberspace to spread disinformation goes against the basic principles of humanity and international relations, it said. 'They stressed that perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of terrorist acts must be held accountable and brought to justice,' the statement said. 'In this context, they called for early adoption of the UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. They stressed the need to strengthen UN-led global counter-terrorism cooperation and fully implement the relevant UNSC resolutions, global counter-terrorism strategy and FATF standards,' it said. The ministers also called for a 'peaceful and stable' Afghanistan, free from terrorism, war and drugs. 'They stressed the need to stand by the people of Afghanistan.' The ministers also emphasised optimum usage of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) to enhance connectivity between India and the Central Asian countries. The INSTC is a 7,200-km-long multi-mode transport project for moving freight among India, Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe. India has been supporting the project. 'They stressed that connectivity initiatives should be based on the principles of transparency, broad participation, local priorities, financial sustainability, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries,' the statement said. 'India reiterated its support for the membership of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in INSTC. In this context, ministers appreciated the initiative taken by Kazakhstan to develop the eastern branch of INSTC,' it said. In his opening remarks at the conclave, Jaishankar appreciated the Central Asian states for standing by India following the Pahalgam terror attack. India would be a 'trusted development partner' for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, he said. 'I appreciate that your countries stood by India and condemned the heinous terrorist attack that took place in April in Pahalgam,' he said. Jaishankar said India 'deeply cherishes' its millennia-old civilisational and cultural ties with Central Asia. The external affairs minister said the cooperation between India and Central Asia received a 'quantum boost' following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's back-to-back visits to all five countries in the region in July 2015. 'Today, we are well-connected by multiple direct flights. Our enhanced connectivity facilitates greater two-way tourist flows and businesses,' he said. Jaishankar said both India and the Central Asian nations are committed to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation in areas of trade and investment, defence, regional connectivity, security and new and emerging technologies. The India-Central Asia Dialogue, launched in January 2019 in Samarkand, is a meeting of foreign ministers. It serves as a key platform for strengthening ties between India and Central Asia. Opium supplier held in Rs 6.6L drug seizure case
Vadodara: The Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested a key accused linked to the seizure of opium worth Rs 6.65 lakh in the city. The accused, Lakkiram Suthar, a resident of Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, was apprehended following months of investigation. In Jan this year, police had seized a large quantity of opium and arrested two men — Bhanvarlal Jaypal of Madhya Pradesh and Devji Prajapati of New Sama Road. Acting on a tip-off, cops had raided a location where the duo was allegedly planning to sell the contraband, leading to the seizure and registration of a case at Harni police station. During interrogation, Jaypal revealed that the opium was sourced from Suthar, and that another accomplice, Komal Jaat, was involved in supplying the narcotics. Following the lead, the police tracked down and arrested Suthar from Mandsaur. Efforts are on to locate and apprehend Komal Jaat. 8 held from B'luru for 32 lakh dacoity
Navi Mumbai: Sanpada police have arrested eight people from Bengaluru in a case of dacoity in which an angadia was abducted and robbed of Rs 32 lakh, when he had gone to deposit cash at an ATM in Juinagar on May 31. According to inspector Devidas Kathale, the victim, Mohammad Ramees Idavlath, was at a Juinagar ATM kiosk when one suspect presented an identity card, claiming to be a Mumbai police officer. The impersonator insisted Idavlath accompany him for questioning, suggesting the large sum of money was unaccounted for. The group of six people forced Idavlath into their SUV and drove along Palm Beach road. During the journey, they attacked him, took his money bag, and abandoned him on Palm Beach road before fleeing. "We have retrieved Rs 30.48 lakh, their mobile phones, and the SUV used in the offence.
