Steve Coogan spared driving ban after using The Trip filming as excuse
In a letter to Birmingham Magistrates' Court, reported by the Evening Standard, he urged the court not to disqualify him as he had already accrued six points on his licence.
The newspaper said the Alan Partridge actor told the court he was expected to film The Trip, which the 59-year-old appears in with co-star Rob Brydon, and a lengthy driving ban would mean 'the production would likely be unable to proceed'.
Coogan's request for five penalty points to be imposed instead of six was granted after he pleaded guilty to the offence on January 30.
He was ordered to pay a £2,500 fine, plus £90 costs and a £1,000 victim surcharge.
The Evening Standard said his letter to the court read: 'I have a series of important film commitments scheduled for 2025, many of which involve driving as a central component of the work.
'I am due to appear in a well-established TV series called The Trip which as the title suggests requires me to drive.
'This starts filming towards the end of June 2025 and if I were unable to drive, the production would likely be unable to proceed.'
Coogan previously successfully argued for a shorter driving ban at Crawley Magistrates' Court in August 2019 after being caught doing 36mph in a 30mph zone – saying an extended disqualification would mean he could not film the new series of Alan Partridge.
He was also banned from driving for 28 days at Worthing Magistrates' Court in 2016 for travelling at 54mph in a 30mph zone in a Mazda sports car.

Wife of former Tory councillor jailed for vile Southport tweet will be freed in weeks
Mum-of-two Lucy Connolly, 41, was jailed after she pleaded guilty to stirring up racial hatred when she posted a message on X amid the unrest following the Southport riots last summer The wife of an ex-Tory councillor who was jailed for vile posts amid the riots following the Southport murders will be freed in weeks. Mum-of-two Lucy Connolly posted an expletive-filled post on the day Bebe King, 6, Alice Aguiar, 9, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, were brutally murdered by Axel Rudakubana, 18, during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in the Merseyside town. Connolly posted on July 29 last year: "Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the b******* for all I care… if that makes me racist so be it.' It was viewed more than 300,000 times in about three-and-a-half hours on X (formerly Twitter) before Connolly deleted it. Connolly is reportedly due to be released from HMP Peterborough next month, subject to conditions. The 41-year-old was told to serve 40 per cent of her sentence behind bars before being released on licence. One of Connolly's pals said she would be "with a glass of Whispering Angel in hand" this time in August, reports the Evening Standard. Her comments came amid a wave of unrest across the country with migrants being targeted in attacks at hotels. There were also several clashes with police in cities and towns in England. Connolly, the wife of former councillor Raymond who served on the West Northamptonshire Council, was jailed for 31 months after she previously intending to stir up racial hatred. She was remanded in custody following her first court appearance on August 10, last year. During a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, it was revealed Connolly shared a WhatsApp message on August 5 were she joked that the post had "bitten me on the a***, lol." The court heard Connolly, who had no prior convictions, sent another post that commented on the attack, which read: "I bet my house it was one of these boat invaders." Rudakubana was not a recent Channel crossing migrant and was born in the UK to parents who arrived in the UK following the Rwanda genocide. Judge Melbourne Inman KC said the 31-month prison sentence had been intended to "punish and deter," with Connolly pleading guilty. Critics have argued Connolly's punishment was too harsh with right-wing ex-Home Secretary Suella Braverman stating she was a victim of a "politicised two-tier justice system." Former Prime Minister Liz Truss hit out at the sentencing, branding it "unjustifiable." Connolly lost her appeal against the sentence at the Court of Appeal, with Lord Justice Holroyde rejecting the suggestion it had been "manifestly excessive." Connolly previously said she "never" wanted to stir up violence and stated she was not aware pleading guilty would mean she accepted she had done so.

My husband died twice after his heart attack but was brought back by paramedics. As a devout Christian I asked him: ‘Did you see the light?' His response shocked me... now I realise the miracle
It was like a scene from Holby City. The road was blocked off; there were two police cars and an ambulance, and crowds of people I didn't recognise. Panic pulsed through me as I spotted my husband Tom's silver Range Rover smashed into the bushes by the side of the road; the branches bent and broken and the mud tracks showing where he'd veered off the road.

Moment hero police officer commandeers bystander's bike in relentless pursuit of car thief after high speed chase
This is the moment a quick-thinking police officer caught a suspected thief by swapping his patrol car for a passerby's bike. Footage of PC Paddy Connell chasing a stolen Range Rover in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, went viral in April last year. The suspected thief first attempted to flee in reverse before he managed to speed away and hit speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone. The driver finally crashed the £40,000 car into a row of parked cars before scrambling out and clambering over a fence. PC Connell chased on foot before being helped by a passing cyclist. The Good Samaritan pointed PC Connell in the direction of the suspect before handing over his bicycle, telling the officer: 'Go get em'. After pedalling after the suspect, PC Connell ditched the bike and followed him on foot as he jumped over a wall and headed into a back garden. The officer finally collared the man who was hiding behind a shed and ordered him to lie on the ground before handcuffing him. After pedalling after the suspect, PC Connell ditched the bike and followed him on foot as he jumped over a wall and headed into a back garden A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. The 2.30-minute clip of the chase went viral after South Yorkshire Police released the footage. The officer was also called into action on January 28 this year when he arrested a burglar who was on the force's 'most wanted' list. PC Connell spotted a Suzuki Cross 4x4 in Penistone which failed to stop and resulted in a chase lasting almost 30 minutes. During the pursuit the suspect threw items - including a fire extinguisher - from the car. PC Connell dodged the items and was able to deploy a stinger just before a roundabout at junction 37 on the M1. The cop, who has served for 23 years, rammed the Suzuki and two men in the car were arrested. They are due in court later this year. PC Connell has now been crowned the force's Police Officer of the Year. Chief Inspector of Roads Policing Peter Spratt said: 'We are immensely proud of PC Connell, and the recognition he has received. 'He is an integral member of the team and has had so many excellent results with colleagues, bringing offenders to justice and making South Yorkshire safer as a result. 'Our officers regularly put themselves at risk to protect the public, managing these incidents to a safe conclusion through tactics that require dynamic teamwork and skilful implementation of their training. 'Well done PC Connell, you are a credit to the department.'
