Ford stuns with 'Model T moment' for its electric cars

Daily Mail8 hours ago
Ford is unveiling a new EV that it is calling its 'next Model T moment' - which will be be made entirely in the US.
The mid-size pickup truck is expected to hit dealerships in 2027 for around $30,000.
Ford said the unnamed truck will be built on an all new, American-made battery platform in Louisville, Kentucky.
It will be first time an EV, by any manufacturer, has been powered with mostly US-based materials. Normally, critical minerals are imported - often from China.
'There are no guarantees with this project,' CEO Jim Farley said. 'It is a bet, there is risk.'
The truck, built with lithium-iron phosphate batteries, is a complete departure from previous US-assembled EVs.
Ford said it made a huge investment to complete the project. The automaker spent $2 billion to rework the factory and plans to hire 2,200 full-time workers.
Ford's share price fell on the news, with Wall Street worried about the vast cost of such a commitment.
This is a breaking news story.

Novitec Turns Rolls-Royce Cullinan Into 697-HP Widebody Beast

The NHTSA has received at least 47 complaints alleging that Kia's recall fix was didn't actually solve the problem. Only a few of these V12-powered monsters exist, and this one is among those with the smallest mileages to exist in the market today. Renders imagine a Kia Tasman WKNDR SUV, aimed to rival the Wrangler Rubicon or maybe even the Bronco Raptor. View post: This Is How Kia Could Take On the Bronco Raptor A strong seller, the Ford Escape and its Lincoln Continental twin will have to make way for a revolutionary pickup. It's as powerful as an Aston Martin DBX707 Novitec is a German tuner that's known for specializing in upgrades for Italian automakers like Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. The Bavaria-based company also has a separate division called Spofec, which specifically tunes Rolls-Royce models, and it's this division that's responsible for a particularly mean interpretation of the Cullinan ultra-luxury SUV. Spofec's Overdose widebody kit is based on the facelifted version of the Cullinan, which was introduced for the 2025 model year—a controversial facelift that other tuners have tried to fix. Besides giving the SUV a more muscular stance, it's also given the already powerful V12 more grunt. Seriously Large Wheels, But Other Touches Are More Subtle The most obvious change to this Cullinan Series II are custom 24-inch wheels, developed in collaboration with American manufacturer Vossen. The polished wheels with their spatially offset spokes will be a nightmare to clean, so it's just as well that very few Rolls owners clean their own cars. Customers can choose from 48 wheel colors with a brushed or polished finish. The Overdose kit also includes fender flares that add 4.7 inches to the SUV's width, giving it even more presence. Unlike Mansory's more garish Rolls-Royce Dawn, Spofec took a more reserved approach to the rest of this Cullinan. The Spofec front fascia isn't dramatically different from the standard model's, but it does get LED position markers in place of the stock bumper. The surrounds for the side air intakes are fashioned from carbon, and other additions include a subtle rear spoiler, a diffuser made from visual carbon, and tailpipe tips integrated into the diffuser. Even More Power For The V12 Whereas the normal Rolls-Royce Cullinan produces 563 horsepower from its 6.7-liter twin-turbo V12, the Black Badge version—as seen here—makes 592 hp. That still wasn't enough for Spofec, which tuned the V12 to deliver 697 hp and 782 lb-ft of torque; that's exactly as much power as you get in the Aston Martin DBX707, a much more performance-focused SUV than the Cullinan. Spofec claims a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 4.6 seconds, which is quick but as as ferocious as the new Bentley Bentayga Speed. A performance, flap-activated exhaust allows customers to fully unleash the sound of the V12, which you can hear in the video below. Oops! We're unable to load this content right now. View directly on Instagram Very little was said about the interior, with Spofec only saying it will happily cater to each client's individual wishes. A single image of the rear seat—the most important part of any Rolls-Royce cabin—was shared by the tuner. It has black leather and vivid orange accenting on the seats and door panels. Rolls-Royce's gorgeous Starlight Headliner is still the most atmospheric roof design you'll find in almost any luxury car. Source: Novitec Overall, Spofec's Cullinan makeover is far from the wildest body kit we've seen. It won't be for everyone, but the tuner has shown just enough restraint here for a vehicle as prestigious as the Rolls SUV. About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile

2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Vs. Mazda CX-30: 5 Major Differences

By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. The global full-size pickup market is projected to experience a compound annual growth rate of 4.5% from 2025 to 2033—and their profits are especially unique. Although the Toyota RAV4 comprehensively outsells the Mazda CX-5 (and pretty much everything else) in the United States, the gap is closer between the Japanese brands' smallest crossovers, which are the Corolla Cross and CX-30. Mazda North America sold 34,988 units of the CX-30 in the first half of the year, while Toyota registered 51,324 sales of the Corolla Cross in the USA over the same period. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:09 Full screen 2025 Audi S3 VS 2025 Mercedes-AMG CLA 35: Which one comes out on top? Watch More These are the most affordable crossovers from each brand, offering a strong combination of practicality and value, but they go about it in different ways. Here are five differences between these two vehicles, based on the latest available models, which are the 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross and 2025 Mazda CX-30. 1. Mazda Focuses More On Performance And Less On Efficiency By providing your email address, you agree that it may be used pursuant to Arena Group's Privacy Policy. We may receive compensation. The first thing that may jump out at you when looking at the specification sheets is the Mazda's power advantage. The base model has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, whereas all non-hybrid Toyota Corolla Cross models have a 2.0-liter four-pot with 169 hp and 150 lb-ft, so the Toyota is noticeably slower and less responsive. Mazda also offers a 2.5-liter turbocharged version of the CX-30 with up to 250 hp and 320 lb-ft when using 93 octane fuel. It's far quicker than any Corolla Cross, surging to 60 mph in under six seconds. Toyota's only other Corolla Cross powertrain is a hybrid with a 2.0-liter engine and three electric motors, making 196 hp combined. It can reach 60 mph in eight seconds, roughly on par with the base CX-30. The advantage for the Toyota is in its efficiency. In hybrid form, it achieves 45/38/42 mpg city/highway/combined, dropping to a best of 31/33/32 mpg in non-hybrid form. The best the CX-30 can do is 26/33/29 mpg in non-hybrid form. 2. Toyota More Comfortable, But Mazda Is More Fun Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Research and compare vehicles, too. It's no Miata, but in our review of a 2024 model, we stated that the CX-30 is more engaging to drive than any subcompact rival, with direct steering and good throttle response. Even the transmission complements the engines well. The Corolla Cross has a softer, more comfortable ride, but it's nowhere near as fun to drive as the CX-30. We found its steering to be rather devoid of feel, and the noisy four-cylinder engine doesn't encourage you to rev it, which you need to do to get anywhere (somewhat) quickly. 3. Only The Toyota Has A CVT For better or worse, all Corolla Cross models use a continuously variable transmission. Planting the throttle keeps the revs and the noise levels high, which is unsatisfying to the ear. Tootling around town at lower speeds, the Toyota is better, and the CVT does contribute to the crossover's admirable efficiency, but it's not a setup that you'll derive any excitement from. In the CX-30, you get a conventional six-speed automatic transmission. While most other modern cars use eight-speed autos, Mazda has intentionally stuck with the six-speeder, simply because it works brilliantly with the four-cylinder engine. There's no excessive hunting for the right gear, and downshifts are quick when you select Sport mode. It's far more satisfying than the Corolla Cross's CVT. 4. CX-30 Is More Premium Inside For a non-luxury, mass-market brand, Mazda makes some of the nicest interiors around, and its cheaper models live up to that perception, too. The cabin is almost identical to the one in the Mazda 3, so you get similar soft-touch materials on the doors and dashboard. None of the buttons and switches feel cheap to operate, and the dashboard layout is clean and classy. On top models, features like Terracotta leatherette and a heated steering wheel make it feel like you're sitting in a car from a segment above. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the interior of the Toyota. Build quality is solid, it's logically designed, and you also have access to many features as you work your way up the trim ladder. A new 10.5-inch touchscreen also becomes available for 2026, which is slightly larger than the 10.25-inch unit in the pricier CX-30 trims. Even so, the Toyota just lacks the final layer of polish and attention to detail that sets the Mazda apart. 5. Toyota Is Cheaper, But There's A Catch For 2026, the Toyota Corolla Cross starts at $24,635 for the L trim with front-wheel drive. If you want all-wheel drive, that will add another $1,300 to the price. The Corolla Cross Hybrid, meanwhile, starts at $28,995, and the range tops out with the Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE AWD for $33,030. The 2025 Mazda CX-30 starts at $25,195. Although that's more expensive than the Corolla Cross, the Mazda does get standard AWD, so it's actually $740 cheaper than the equivalent Corolla Cross AWD. This situation is expected to change when 2026 pricing for the CX-30 becomes available. The CX-30 turbo is a lot pricier, starting at $33,140 and going up to $37,150 for the Premium Plus trim. Final Thoughts If money is no object, the Mazda CX-30 is the better car between these two. It's quicker, far more enjoyable to drive, and has more refined finishes than the Corolla Cross. There isn't much to separate these two in terms of tech features and spaciousness; neither has a massive trunk or back seat, although kids, teens, and average-sized adults will be reasonably comfortable. The Toyota's main advantage is its cheaper overall pricing and stellar efficiency. The hybrid is easily the pick of the range, since its powertrain isn't as strained. For 2026, Toyota also handed the Corolla Cross a bolder look, so it appeals a little more to the senses than before. Ultimately, the CX-30 is the winner here if efficiency isn't your top priority. And if there's one item that every homeowner should have, it's a rechargeable flashlight. Long gone are the days where you have to rely on a battery-powered flashlight for illumination. Right now, you can grab the MoonSun Rechargeable Flashlight for just $10 at Walmart. Originally priced at $30, you can save 67% on this must-have essential. MoonSun Rechargeable Flashlight, $10 (was $30) at Walmart Weighing less than 1 pound, this flashlight can be used for just about any occasion. It offers 1,000 powerful lumens that can fully illuminate a 100 square meter room. It is five times brighter than other LED flashlights and features three lighting modes — high to medium, strobe, and SOS. Another feature that sets this flashlight apart from others on the market is its zoomable function, that allows you to adjust the focus and choose the spotlight for remote or large-area viewing. 'Best flashlight I've ever owned!' wrote one shopper. 'It is built well. The case is made of metal and every part fits together well. The light is bright and the cowl adjusts focus of the beam from narrow to wide. The light it produces is evenly distributed over the entire area, unlike flashlights that use incandescent bulbs.' A second customer said, 'These were a delight to have at the campsite in preparation for late-night treks to the lake. We own a number of compact LED lamps, but this one surpasses them all in quality.' With a telescopic design, this device is IPX7 waterproof and made of durable aviation grade aluminum alloy. The flashlight uses a USB-charging interface that can be powered through a laptop, socket, and power bank. Once the battery is fully charged, it can last for 12 hours in low brightness mode. It also uses an LED display to show the exact power level, so you'll know when it needs a recharge. 'Impressively bright,' wrote a third reviewer. 'Little size, fits in my coat pocket easily, charges fast, and lights up a room if hung in a tent. Outdoors it lights up my backyard effortlessly.' Get ready for any type of emergency or outdoor excursion with this $10 rechargeable flashlight. Add one (or two) to your cart today before the sale ends.
