Shah Rukh Khan Reacts To Shashi Tharoor's National Award Wish: 'Wouldn't Have Understood…'

News1804-08-2025
Shah Rukh Khan, affectionately known as Bollywood's Badshah, has finally added a National Award to his legendary career — his very first. The accolade came for his powerful performance in Jawan (2023), directed by Atlee, thrilling fans across the nation.
Shashi Tharoor is famously known for his rich and often tongue-twisting vocabulary, and it has earned him a reputation online as the king of complex English. His speeches and posts frequently go viral for this very reason. So when Tharoor kept things unusually simple in congratulating Shah Rukh Khan, it didn't go unnoticed. SRK cheekily pointed it out in his reply, proving once again that he can match wit with anyone — even someone with a dictionary's worth of words at their fingertips. He took to social media with a short but grand message, 'A National Treasure wins a National Award! Congratulations." True to form, SRK replied with humour. 'Thank u for the simple praise Mr Tharoor… Would not have understood something more magniloquent and sesquipedalian… ha ha," he wrote.

SRK also reflected with humility after winning the National Award. 'Namaskar and Adab. Needless to say I'm overwhelmed with gratitude, pride and humility. To be honoured with the National Award is a moment that I will cherish for a lifetime." He specifically thanked the jury and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. 'Thank you so much to the jury, the chairman and to the INB ministry and to everyone who thought I was worthy of this honour."
He went on to add, 'This award is for you, as each award is. And yeah, I would love to spread my arms for you and share my love, but I'm a bit indisposed. But don't worry, just keep the popcorn ready. I'll be back in theaters and soon on the screen. So till then, just with one hand. Ready!"
71st National Film Awards Winners
SRK shared the Best Actor honour with Vikrant Massey for 12th Fail. The Best Actress trophy went to Rani Mukerji for Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. Sudipto Sen won Best Director for The Kerala Story, while Kathal took home Best Hindi Film, led by Sanya Malhotra.
