Philips launches real-time 3D intracardiac imaging in Europe, expanding access to minimally invasive heart procedures

Philips launches real-time 3D intracardiac imaging in Europe, expanding access to minimally invasive heart procedures

May 19, 2025
Amsterdam, the Netherlands –
Royal Philips
(NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, today announced the introduction of its VeriSight Pro 3D Intracardiac Echocardiography (ICE) catheter in Europe. Building on its success in the United States, VeriSight Pro brings real-time 3D imaging directly inside the heart, helping physicians perform procedures with greater clarity — without the need for general anesthesia.
Designed for procedures such as transcatheter valve repair and left atrial appendage closure, VeriSight Pro offers high-resolution 2D and 3D visualization directly within the heart chambers. This enables confident clinical decision-making in structural heart and electrophysiology interventions, while removing the need for general anesthesia and associated risks.
'With VeriSight Pro 3D ICE, we now have the ability to see detailed cardiac anatomy from inside the heart in real time,' said Prof. Dr. Jörg Hausleiter, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, Germany. 'This helps streamline our workflows and makes complex procedures more accessible to patients who may not tolerate more invasive imaging approaches.'
Addressing structural heart disease with less burden on patients and hospitals
Structural heart disease is a growing challenge across Europe, with increasing volumes of transcatheter valve repair and closure procedures. Today, many of these are supported by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), which often requires general anesthesia, additional staff, and extended room time. In contrast, 3D ICE imaging provides detailed visualization from within the heart through a catheter introduced via the femoral vein, reducing the need for general anesthesia and recovery time in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), which can shorten hospital stays and lower costs.
VeriSight Pro is a pioneering innovation: a miniaturized ultrasound probe, approximately 3 millimeters in diameter, embedded at the tip of a thin, steerable catheter. This tiny device can be navigated through the vascular system and into the heart chambers, where it delivers high-quality 2D and 3D images in real time. Imaging the heart from within, with control over the scan angle, opens entirely new possibilities for guiding structural heart interventions. Physicians can assess anatomy, guide device placement, and confirm procedural results — all from a single access point, and without the need for more invasive imaging techniques.
As the first ICE catheter to miniaturize the same 3D imaging technology used in TEE, VeriSight Pro helps address key barriers in delivering efficient, scalable care — from patient tolerance to resource availability in interventional suites.
'VeriSight Pro reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering clinically relevant innovations that enhance precision, reduce procedure complexity, and improve the care experience,' said Stacy Beske, Business Leader of Image-Guided Therapy Devices at Philips. 'Its availability in Europe is an important milestone in helping more patients benefit from image-guided, minimally invasive heart procedures, while supporting care teams with integrated solutions that adapt to the way they work.'
Part of an integrated portfolio for structural heart care
VeriSight Pro is part of Philips' structural heart disease ecosystem, seamlessly integrating with Philips' EPIQ ultrasound systems, which in turn integrate with the Azurion image-guided therapy platform. Combined with tools such as EchoNavigator, Philips offers an end-to-end solution for clinicians performing procedures such as tricuspid and mitral valve repair and replacement, atrial septal defect closure, and left atrial appendage occlusion.
The catheter's unique features — including xPlane and iRotate technologies — allow physicians to visualize two imaging planes simultaneously and digitally adjust views without physically repositioning the catheter tip. These capabilities enable precise assessment and device deployment with fewer imaging steps.
Showcasing 3D ICE in action at EuroPCR 2025
Philips will highlight VeriSight Pro and its role in structural heart interventions at EuroPCR 2025 in Paris, May 20–23. Key activities include:
These sessions will offer clinicians an in-depth look at how 3D ICE is being applied in real-world structural heart procedures — from imaging protocols to workflow integration and clinical outcomes. A complete and detailed overview of sessions can be found here:

Protagonist and Takeda Announce ASCO Plenary Presentation Highlighting Full 32-Week Results from Phase 3 VERIFY Study of Rusfertide, Showing Reductions in Phlebotomy, Improved Hematocrit Control in Polycythemia Vera

Osaka, Japan & Cambridge, Mass., Newark, Calif., United States: Rusfertide plus current standard of care more than doubled clinical response rates across high- and low-risk PV groups, significantly reducing phlebotomy eligibility compared to placebo plus current standard of care, which was the primary endpoint All key secondary endpoints met with statistical significance, including a nearly three-fold reduction in the proportion of patients requiring phlebotomy and a four-fold improvement in hematocrit control in rusfertide arm compared to placebo arm, as well as improvements in patient-reported outcomes No serious adverse events considered related to rusfertide were reported Rusfertide has received Orphan Drug designation and Fast Track designation from the U.S. FDA Protagonist Therapeutics, Inc. ('Protagonist') (NASDAQ:PTGX) and Takeda (TSE:4502/NYSE:TAK) announced detailed results from the Phase 3, randomized, placebo-controlled VERIFY study evaluating rusfertide in patients with polycythemia vera (PV), which met the primary and all key secondary endpoints. The data will be presented as a late-breaking oral presentation at the 61st American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting Plenary Session (LBA3) at 2:09 pm CDT today. PV is characterized by overproduction of red blood cells (erythrocytosis), which may increase blood viscosity, or thickness, potentially resulting in life threatening thrombotic events such as stroke, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. People with PV can experience burdensome symptoms, including severe fatigue, difficulty in concentrating, night sweats and pruritus, which may negatively impact their daily functioning and quality of life. Hematocrit is the ratio of red blood cells to total amount of blood in the body. Achieving and maintaining controlled hematocrit levels of <45% is the primary treatment goal in PV to prevent thrombotic events and alleviate symptoms, but many patients still experience uncontrolled hematocrit levels with current standard of care treatments. Rusfertide, an investigational, first-in-class hepcidin mimetic peptide therapeutic, is under evaluation in the Phase 3 VERIFY study for its potential to regulate iron homeostasis and red blood cell production to control hematocrit levels in patients with PV. In the study, patients dependent on frequent phlebotomy, with or without treatment with cytoreductive therapy, were randomized to receive once-weekly rusfertide or placebo, as an add-on to current standard of care treatment. 'PV poses significant challenges for patients, including debilitating symptoms and the risk of serious thrombotic events, and hematocrit control is crucial to improving patient outcomes. The VERIFY study demonstrated that treatment with rusfertide controls hematocrit levels in phlebotomy-dependent patients, including patients receiving cytoreductive therapies,' said Dr. Andrew T. Kuykendall, M.D., VERIFY Lead Investigator and Associate Member in the Department of Hematology at Moffitt Cancer Center. 'These results suggest rusfertide has the potential to become part of the standard of care treatment for patients with PV.' The study met its primary endpoint, which was the proportion of patients achieving a clinical response, defined as the absence of phlebotomy eligibility during study Weeks 20-32. Study results demonstrated 76.9% of patients treated with rusfertide plus current standard of care achieved a clinical response, compared to 32.9% in the placebo plus current standard of care group (p<0.0001).1 The response observed in the rusfertide arm was consistent across subgroups, regardless of risk status or type of concurrent cytoreductive therapy.1 In addition, all key secondary endpoints met statistical significance in favor of the rusfertide arm compared to the placebo arm in the VERIFY study, as follows: The mean number of phlebotomies was 0.5 phlebotomies per patient for those treated with rusfertide plus current standard of care compared to 1.8 phlebotomies per patient for those treated with placebo plus current standard of care during Weeks 0-32 (p<0.0001). 1 Only 27% of patients treated with rusfertide plus current standard of care required phlebotomy between Weeks 0-32, compared to 78% of patients who received placebo plus current standard of care. The mean number of phlebotomies during Weeks 0-32 in the rusfertide arm was reduced across subgroups, including risk status and use of concurrent cytoreductive therapy, versus the placebo arm. 62.6% of patients treated with rusfertide plus current standard of care maintained hematocrit levels below 45% versus 14.4% treated with placebo plus current standard of care (p<0.0001). 1 Rusfertide also showed statistically significant improvements in mean change from baseline to Week 32 in PROMIS Fatigue2 (p<0.03) and the MFSAF Total Symptom Score3 (p<0.03). Rusfertide is the first investigational therapy to prospectively demonstrate a statistically significant improvement in these patient-reported outcomes (PROs) of fatigue and symptom burden in patients with PV.1 Rusfertide was generally well tolerated. The majority of adverse events were low grade and non-serious and no serious adverse events considered related to rusfertide were reported. There was no evidence of increased risk of cancer in patients treated with rusfertide plus current standard of care compared to patients treated with placebo plus current standard of care at the time of the primary analysis. Cancer events were reported in one patient in the rusfertide arm (0.7%) and in seven patients in the placebo arm (4.8%). The most common treatment-emergent adverse events were localized injection site reactions (55.9%), anemia (15.9%) and fatigue (15.2%).1 'These findings underscore rusfertide's potential as a first-in-class erythrocytosis-specific treatment for PV and validate more than a decade of scientific innovation originating from Protagonist's peptide technology platform,' said Dinesh V. Patel, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer at Protagonist. 'We would like to thank all the patients, study staff and investigators for participating in the VERIFY study. We are pleased to partner with Takeda as we continue to advance rusfertide to potentially transform the standard of care in PV patients around the world.' 'These promising pivotal data strongly support rusfertide's potential benefit for a broad spectrum of patients with PV who may be receiving current standard of care therapies but not achieving adequate hematocrit control,' said Phuong Khanh (P.K.) Morrow, M.D., Head of the Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit (OTAU) at Takeda. 'We look forward to receiving additional data from the VERIFY trial later this year, advancing rusfertide towards regulatory approval and continuing our collaboration with Protagonist to bring this innovative therapy to patients.' Rusfertide has received Orphan Drug designation and Fast Track designation from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). About VERIFY The Phase 3 VERIFY study (NCT05210790) is an ongoing, three-part, global, randomized, placebo-controlled study evaluating rusfertide in 293 patients with polycythemia vera over a 156-week period. The study is evaluating the efficacy and safety of once-weekly, subcutaneously self-administered rusfertide in patients with uncontrolled hematocrit who are phlebotomy-dependent despite current standard of care treatment, which could include hydroxyurea, interferon and/or ruxolitinib. The primary endpoint of the study was the proportion of patients achieving a response during Weeks 20-32, which was defined as the absence of 'phlebotomy eligibility.' To meet phlebotomy eligibility, patients in the study were required to have: confirmed hematocrit ≥45% that was ≥3% higher than their baseline hematocrit value, or hematocrit ≥48%. All patients have completed their participation in the randomized, placebo-controlled portion of the study evaluating the efficacy and safety of rusfertide plus current standard of care versus placebo plus current standard of care and are now in the open-label portions of the study. BlackRock Reportedly To Take 10% Of Circle IPO: Major Asset Manager Doubles Down on Stablecoin Strategy

Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. BlackRock (NYSE:BLK), the world's largest asset manager, is planning to acquire approximately 10% of Circle Internet Group's initial public offering, representing a significant vote of confidence in the stablecoin sector, according to Bloomberg. Circle, the issuer of USDC (USD Coin), is seeking to raise up to $624 million in what appears to be an oversubscribed offering set to price on June 4. Don't Miss: — no wallets, just price speculation and free paper trading to practice different strategies. Grow your IRA or 401(k) with Crypto – . Offering Size and Demand: Target raise: Up to $624 million BlackRock stake: ~10% of shares offered Ark Investment Management: Up to $150 million interest Existing Business Relationship: BlackRock manages Circle's government money market fund The Circle Reserve Fund holds $30 billion in net assets as of April 2024 This fund backs 90% of USDC stablecoin reserves For BlackRock: This investment represents more than financial returns—it's a strategic positioning move. BlackRock already manages the reserves backing USDC, making this equity stake a natural extension of their existing relationship. The investment aligns with BlackRock's broader crypto strategy, including their successful Bitcoin ETF launch. For Circle: The backing from both BlackRock and Ark Investment provides institutional credibility crucial for a crypto company going public. Having established asset managers as cornerstone investors should help stabilize the stock post-IPO and attract additional institutional interest. The timing appears opportune for crypto companies seeking public market access. The current political environment under President Donald Trump has created a more favorable regulatory landscape for digital assets. Proposed legislation requiring stablecoins to be backed by cash and safe assets—exactly Circle's model—could provide competitive advantages over less regulated competitors. Trending: New to crypto? on Coinbase. Regulatory Evolution: While the current environment appears favorable, crypto regulations remain in flux. Future policy changes could impact stablecoin operations and profitability. Market Volatility: Crypto-related stocks typically exhibit higher volatility than traditional financial services companies. Investors should expect significant price swings. Competition Intensifying: The stablecoin market faces increasing competition from both crypto-native companies and traditional financial institutions exploring central bank digital currencies. This deal represents the continued convergence of traditional finance and cryptocurrency. For retail investors, Circle's IPO offers exposure to the growing stablecoin market through a regulated, public company structure. However, investors should carefully consider their risk tolerance and the speculative nature of crypto-adjacent investments. The strong institutional backing suggests professional investors see long-term value in Circle's business model, but past performance in crypto markets demonstrates that institutional interest doesn't guarantee steady returns. BlackRock's planned investment in Circle reflects the asset manager's conviction that stablecoins will play an increasingly important role in the financial system. For the broader market, this deal signals continued institutional adoption of crypto infrastructure, potentially paving the way for more traditional finance companies to deepen their cryptocurrency exposure through regulated, public market vehicles. By addressing the unique challenges of indoor environments, the verification program promotes continual improvement and provides visibility into potential challenges, allowing early mitigation through practical solutions. For Hyundai Card facilities to earn a UL Verified Healthy Building Mark, UL Solutions assessed them against rigorous evaluation, testing and analysis methodologies by industry-recognized, third-party organizations, such as the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), World Health Organization (WHO) and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Both the Music Library and Vinyl & Plastic received the UL Verified Healthy Building Mark for Indoor Air and Water, which verifies the buildings for indoor air quality (IAQ) and water quality. To earn this achievement, the two buildings underwent an evaluation of their heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and were also assessed for waterborne pathogens and contaminants to help verify water quality. The Cooking Library and Iron & Wood both achieved the UL Verified Healthy Building Mark for Indoor Environment. The most holistic look at a building's indoor environment within the UL Solutions Verified Healthy Building program, the UL Verified Healthy Building Mark for Indoor Environment conveys these buildings have achieved performance in five critical areas of assessment, including air, water, hygiene, light and acoustics. 'The UL Healthy Building Verifications at four of our iconic Hyundai Card facilities underscore our commitment to health and safety and help build confidence and trust among our employees and our guests who visit these buildings for world-class music, food and leisure experiences,' said a Hyundai Card representative. 'We are excited to have worked with UL Solutions to help us demonstrate how we have actively addressed potential indoor environment risks to help improve overall health.' As part of this proactive effort, UL Solutions also conducted evaluations in three office buildings at Hyundai Card's headquarters in Seoul and confirmed the indoor air quality of these spaces for employees.
