USC softball shuts-out Clemson
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 10/11 South Carolina softball team (25-6) shutout in-state rival Clemson (24-10) 6-0 Tuesday (March 25) at Carolia Softball Stadium in the first game of the Palmetto Series Presented by the South Carolina Education Lottery. It was the first time in rivalry history that the Gamecocks have secured a shutout against the Tigers.
In her first game back from injury, Arianna Rodi celebrated her return to the lineup with a rocket to dead center for her 11th home run of the season. The home run moved her into a tie for sixth in a single season in program history. The three-run homer in the bottom of the first put the Gamecocks on the board early and established the lead they'd maintain all night.
South Carolina tacked on another run in the bottom of the second off an RBI double to left center from Karley Shelton. In the bottom of the fourth, Shelton and Rodi added to their RBI counts, going back-to-back at the plate. Shelton hit a single to right center and Rodi managed a sacrifice fly for her team-leading fourth RBI of the game.
Nealy Lamb (6-1) set the tone in the circle, starting the game with two strikeouts in the first inning. She ended the night going five innings with four strikeouts, just two hits and no walks. Sam Gress tossed a pair of innings in relief and closed the combined-game shutout for Carolina.
Quincee Lilio went 3-for-4 at the plate, setting the scene for Rodi's home run in the first inning. She also led the team with two runs scored.
South Carolina hits the road to open a weekend series at No. 3 LSU Friday (March 25) at 6 p.m.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Greenville Drive) — Franklin Arias homered and drove in two runs while Eduardo Rivera struck out eight over 5 2/3 strong innings as the Greenville Drive rolled past the Rome Emperors 7–2 on Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field, taking the six-game series five games to one. A four-run third inning and a three-run sixth provided more than enough offense for the Drive (30–27), who capped off a dominant week and climbed three games over .500. Rome (27–30) was held to just one hit in seven at-bats with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Rivera (3–1) turned in another sharp outing, scattering six hits and allowing just one run — a solo homer by E.J. Exposito in the sixth — while striking out eight and walking one. Erik Rivera and Darvin Garcia combined for 3 1/3 innings of relief to close out the win. Arias finished 2-for-5 and launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, part of a three-hit inning that helped Greenville pull away. Yophery Rodriguez added two hits, including a double and a stolen base, while Freili Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The Drive broke open a scoreless tie in the third after Rodriguez and Nelly Taylor reached base to set the table. Antonio Anderson singled, and Nazzan Zanetello followed with an RBI knock to left that plated two. A throwing error by Rome left fielder Jace Grady allowed a third run to score, and Brooks Brannon added a fourth on a fielder's choice that was mishandled by shortstop Lizandro Espinoza. Rome starter Cedric De Grandpre (1–1) took the loss, charged with four runs — three earned — over three innings. He struggled with command, walking three and allowing four hits in his 69-pitch outing. After Exposito's solo shot in the sixth, Greenville responded quickly. Brannon led off the home half with a single, and Encarnacion followed with a double to left. Justin Riemer's sacrifice fly brought home Brannon before Arias connected on a two-run blast down the right-field line off Rome reliever Samuel Strickland to make it 7–1. Exposito, the lone bright spot offensively for Rome, went 3-for-4 and accounted for both runs — adding an RBI single in the eighth. But the rest of the Emperors lineup struggled to solve Greenville's pitching, striking out 12 times. The Drive out-hit Rome 10–7 and took advantage of three defensive errors by the Emperors, two of which led directly to early runs. Greenville finished the series having outscored Rome 33–14 over the six-game stretch. CBS Sports identifies Clemson's run game as what the Tigers must address for 2025 success Clemson enters the 2025 season with expectations as high as ever — and for good reason. The Tigers return more production than any team in college football, according to ESPN. Dabo Swinney also made rare moves in the transfer portal to strengthen the top of the depth chart and brought in former Indiana head coach Tom Allen to take over the defense. But despite the talent-laden roster, CBS Sports points to one remaining question: the run game. With Phil Mafah off to the NFL and Will Shipley gone as well, Clemson's backfield now features a less experienced group. Freshman Gideon Davidson, redshirt freshman David Eziomume, and third-year sophomore Jay Haynes — who is coming off a torn ACL — are expected to carry the load. Davidson enrolled early and impressed this spring, while Haynes averaged 6.9 yards per carry last season before the injury. Eziomume saw time in the Playoff but didn't record a touch. During the CFP semifinal loss to Texas, with Mafah limited and Haynes out, Adam Randall — a converted wide receiver — broke off a 41-yard run and finished with 44 yards on four carries. Jarvis Green and Keith Adams Jr. also saw light action, but the room enters 2025 unproven. Even with Cade Klubnik expected to lead one of the more pass-oriented Clemson offenses in recent years, offensive coordinator Garrett Riley will need short-yardage consistency if the Tigers are to contend for a national title.
