1 Lakh Voters "Untraceable" In Bihar, Says Poll Body Amid Voter Roll Revision
The Election Commission on Wednesday said 1 lakh electors remain "untraceable" in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar while enumeration forms of 7.17 crore have been received and digitised.
It said 20 lakh electors have been reported "deceased" so far and 28 lakh have been found to have permanently shifted from their present addresses.
The poll authority noted that 15 lakh electors' enumeration forms have not been returned to local poll officials.
On August 1, on the completion of the first phase of the SIR, the draft electoral roll will be published.
If there is any error in the draft poll roll, any elector or political party can file an objection regarding the inclusion of the name of any proposed elector with the concerned electoral registration officer of that assembly constituency by September 1.
Similarly, if any eligible person does not find their name in the draft roll, they can file their claims up to September 1, the EC noted.

Congress functionaries back Rahul Gandhi's 'vote chori' accusation, opposition allies join in
NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor threw his weight behind Rahul Gandhi 's "expose" on "vote chori" as the party decided to take it forward with a nationwide campaign. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal announced that the party's state units will screen Rahul's "landmark press conference" in state capitals on Saturday "to expose the BJP-EC nexus". Party president Mallikarjun Kharge will discuss the idea of a national offensive on "election fraud" with Congress state managers and frontal heads on Monday. Party MP Manickam Tagore sought to raise the issue in Lok Sabha amid protests. On Rahul's expose, Tharoor said, "These are serious questions which must be addressed in the interests of all parties and voters. Our democracy is too precious to allow its credibility be destroyed by incompetence, carelessness, or worse, deliberate tampering." Tharoor, who has famously diverged from Congress' view on geopolitical issues lately, was emphatic that EC should act urgently. As a follow up, Rahul released an 8-minute video summary of his findings and raised questions about the outcome of 2022 Uttarakhand, 2023 MP and Chhattisgarh, and 2024 Maharashtra polls, a sensational claim that triggered Congress and opposition to exhume old complaints to EC. Congress MP Vivek Tankha, tagging a video, said he had complained to EC about mass deletion of voters, fake and duplicate voters ahead of MP polls, and asked "why is the poll watchdog not acting impartially". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Become Fluent in Any Language Talkpal AI Undo Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, who raised questions about the poll outcome in the past, was especially active on social media. Samajwadi Party supporters took to social media with gusto sharing videos of Akhilesh Yadav saying "EC is dead" and making other remarks. NCP's Supriya Sule said after Rahul's presentation at a dinner on Thursday that was attended by INDIA bloc stalwarts, Sharad Pawar suggested that the presentation be given at every state, district and block level. DMK's Kanimozhi sought immediate action while TMC's Sagarika Ghose said Rahul's disclosures confirmed Mamata Banerjee's misgivings about SIR. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said EC must rethink if its responsibility is only to BJP.

741 new polling stations to be created in Jaipur district
Jaipur: As a process of streamlining the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme of the electoral roll of Jaipur, the district electoral office decided to create 741 new polling stations. The decision was made during a meeting with the district election officials and representatives of all political parties at the district collectorate. Ashish Kumar, deputy district election officer, informed that to reduce the crowd of voters at the polling stations, booths with more than 1,200 voters are being streamlined, reorganised, created, or divided. "At present, 4,302 polling stations are established in Jaipur district. In the reorganisation process, 2,143 polling stations are being reorganised, and 180 polling stations are being divided. This will create about 741 new polling stations, after which the total number of polling stations in the district will become 5,043," stated Kumar. Officials said SIR is being organised to include the names of all eligible voters in the voters' list and to remove the ineligible names from the list so that the voter list can be made accurate, transparent, and reliable. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Eat these That Help In Healing Knee Pain Naturally Undo According to the plan, the BLO will go door-to-door to each voter and get a printed counting form filled by obtaining the necessary documents. Stir against SIR a meeting point for Trinamool and Congress
The campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar has provided a meeting ground for the INDIA bloc parties, especially the Congress and Trinamool Congress, the only two allies under the bloc who did not have an electoral understanding during the 2024 General Election. The relationship between the Congress and the Trinamool rapidly declined from December 2023, after the two sides failed to work out a seat-sharing arrangement. The Trinamool's offer of two seats wasn't acceptable to the Congress West Bengal unit, then headed by former Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Mr. Chowdhury tirades against the Trinamool leadership, especially Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, worsened the situation. The Trinamool, while remaining in the larger INDIA bloc, has often taken an independent stance standing at a remove from the bloc. New bonhomie At a dinner on Thursday hosted by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for INDIA bloc leaders, the two sides seemed to have turned a page. According to sources, before sitting down for dinner, the Trinamool's national general secretary and newly appointed Parliamentary leader in the Lok Sabha Abhishek Banerjee spent nearly 20 minutes chatting with Mr. Gandhi. 'Mr. Banerjee was seated along with DMK leader K. Kanimozhi, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. While the table was already crowded, Mr. Gandhi pulled a chair to sit beside Mr. Banerjee,' one of the leaders present at the dinner meeting said. The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled next year. Insiders are counting on this bonhomie to continue till then, helping the two sides to come to an electoral understanding. The Election Commission has stated that the SIR will be extended to other States too, though it has not laid out a timetable. In 2026 four States go to polls: West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The leaders, as per multiple sources, discussed that the campaign against SIR has to be sustained beyond the Parliament session and the September 1 rally planned in Patna by the bloc. Mr. Gandhi and the Congress received collective appreciation for their work on Mahadevapura Assembly segment in Karnataka. Mr. Gandhi, accusing the Election Commission of criminal fraud, said 1,00,250 fake voters were created in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment. It was also suggested that this exercise should be done for other constituencies, with one of the leaders suggesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha seat Varanasi specifically for a similar analysis. The INDIA bloc leadership is also working to heal the rift between the Aam Aadmi Party and the bloc. To ensure AAP's participation in a protest march to Election Commission's office, scheduled for Monday, the leaders are carefully omitting the use of the 'INDIA bloc' banner. AAP had recently announced that it is no longer part of the INDIA bloc.
