1 Lakh Voters "Untraceable" In Bihar, Says Poll Body Amid Voter Roll Revision
The Election Commission on Wednesday said 1 lakh electors remain "untraceable" in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar while enumeration forms of 7.17 crore have been received and digitised.
It said 20 lakh electors have been reported "deceased" so far and 28 lakh have been found to have permanently shifted from their present addresses.
The poll authority noted that 15 lakh electors' enumeration forms have not been returned to local poll officials.
On August 1, on the completion of the first phase of the SIR, the draft electoral roll will be published.
If there is any error in the draft poll roll, any elector or political party can file an objection regarding the inclusion of the name of any proposed elector with the concerned electoral registration officer of that assembly constituency by September 1.
Similarly, if any eligible person does not find their name in the draft roll, they can file their claims up to September 1, the EC noted.

741 new polling stations to be created in Jaipur district
Jaipur: As a process of streamlining the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme of the electoral roll of Jaipur, the district electoral office decided to create 741 new polling stations. The decision was made during a meeting with the district election officials and representatives of all political parties at the district collectorate. Ashish Kumar, deputy district election officer, informed that to reduce the crowd of voters at the polling stations, booths with more than 1,200 voters are being streamlined, reorganised, created, or divided. "At present, 4,302 polling stations are established in Jaipur district. In the reorganisation process, 2,143 polling stations are being reorganised, and 180 polling stations are being divided. This will create about 741 new polling stations, after which the total number of polling stations in the district will become 5,043," stated Kumar. Stir against SIR a meeting point for Trinamool and Congress
The campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar has provided a meeting ground for the INDIA bloc parties, especially the Congress and Trinamool Congress, the only two allies under the bloc who did not have an electoral understanding during the 2024 General Election. The relationship between the Congress and the Trinamool rapidly declined from December 2023, after the two sides failed to work out a seat-sharing arrangement. The Trinamool's offer of two seats wasn't acceptable to the Congress West Bengal unit, then headed by former Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Mr. Chowdhury tirades against the Trinamool leadership, especially Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, worsened the situation. The Trinamool, while remaining in the larger INDIA bloc, has often taken an independent stance standing at a remove from the bloc. New bonhomie At a dinner on Thursday hosted by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for INDIA bloc leaders, the two sides seemed to have turned a page. Mr. Gandhi, accusing the Election Commission of criminal fraud, said 1,00,250 fake voters were created in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment. It was also suggested that this exercise should be done for other constituencies, with one of the leaders suggesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha seat Varanasi specifically for a similar analysis. The INDIA bloc leadership is also working to heal the rift between the Aam Aadmi Party and the bloc. To ensure AAP's participation in a protest march to Election Commission's office, scheduled for Monday, the leaders are carefully omitting the use of the 'INDIA bloc' banner. AAP had recently announced that it is no longer part of the INDIA bloc.
