Nifty Financial Services Index Becomes Best-Performing Sector, Surges 15.5% In H1 2025
New Delhi: The Indian financial services sector emerged as the top-performing space in the first half of 2025, as the Nifty Financial Services Index rose nearly 15.5 per cent year-to-date (YTD), according to latest data from Nifty on Friday. This strong rally outpaced other sectoral indices and reflected growing investor confidence in the sector's strength and improving economic conditions.
On Friday, the index hit an all-time high of 27,305.6 during intra-day trading, marking an approximately 22.19 per cent jump from its 52-week low of 22,320.85. A 1.5 per cent rise in the Thursday session further boosted its upward momentum, supported by easing geopolitical tensions, falling crude oil prices, and a softer US Dollar Index.
These factors are attracting foreign portfolio investors to Indian markets. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) have also played a key role in supporting the rally. Investor sentiment is also being lifted by hopes of strong corporate earnings in the April-June quarter of FY26, especially in banking, insurance, and other financial services.
The Nifty Financial Services Index has delivered a steady performance over the past year, gaining 15.4 per cent. In the past four months alone, it rose 3 per cent in June, 1.3 per cent in May, 6.5 per cent in April, and 9.2 per cent in March.
The only weakness came at the beginning of the year, with slight declines of about 1.7 per cent in January and 0.6 per cent February. A major reason for the recent optimism is the Reserve Bank of India's final guidelines on project finance.
The central bank softened its earlier draft norms, easing concerns around asset quality. According to Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOSL), the new rules reduce the amount of money lenders need to set aside for under-construction projects.
Also, the guidelines won't apply to older loans where financial closure is already complete. MOSL said that under the new rules, standard provisioning for such loans has been reduced to around 1–1.25 per cent from the earlier proposed 5 per cent. Once the projects become operational, the provisioning can go down further to as low as 0.4 per cent, depending on the type of project.

After 2 Weeks Of Saying No, UK Agrees To Move Stranded F-35B To Kerala Hangar
New Delhi: The British F-35B fighter jet, stuck in Kerala for two weeks after it made an emergency landing, will be moved to the hangar of the airport once "engineering teams from the UK arrive with specialist equipment." Earlier, sources told NDTV that the British Navy had requested the aircraft not be moved to the hangar as they may not want others to take a closer look at the "protected technologies" of the fighter jet. F-35B is an American-made supersonic stealth fighter jet of the fifth generation and the most advanced stealth fighter in the world, developed by Lockheed Martin. The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) is the most expensive fighter jet programme in history. Read more: UK Navy Declines Air India's Hangar Space Offer To Park Grounded F-35B: Sources The British High Commission spokesperson said, "A UK F-35B aircraft is awaiting repairs at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport after developing an engineering issue. The UK has accepted an offer to move the aircraft to the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility at the airport." "The aircraft will be moved to the hangar once UK engineering teams arrive with specialist equipment, thereby ensuring there is minimal disruption to scheduled maintenance of other aircraft," they added. Earlier, Air India had offered a parking space in the hangar of the Thiruvananthapuram airport, but sources told NDTV that the British Navy had declined the offer. The UK High Commission in Bengaluru responded to a question from NDTV about the plane's status and said, "A UK F-35 aircraft was unable to return to HMS Prince of Wales due to adverse weather conditions. Prioritising safety, the aircraft diverted to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in India, where it landed safely. The aircraft has subsequently developed an engineering issue whilst on the ground which precluded its return to the Carrier," the High Commission said." The fighter jet is part of the Prince of Wales Carrier Strike Group deployed to the Indo-Pacific. The F-35B was returning to its base after completing a joint maritime exercise with the Indian Navy when it made an emergency landing on June 14. The authorities at the airport expected the aircraft to take off shortly after refuelling when it reported low fuel levels, but the technical snag extended, forcing the potent fighter jet to stay at the airport. The High Commission said the UK government has been working closely with its Indian counterpart, as well as the Air Force, Navy, and airport officials, throughout this time. They said, "The aircraft will return to active service once repairs and safety checks have been completed. Ground teams continue to work closely with Indian authorities to ensure safety and security precautions are observed. We thank the Indian authorities and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport for their continued support." F-35 is a Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) developed by the US to replace the fleet of existing US fighter jets, like the F/A-18 Super Hornet, since the carrier version of the aircraft, the F-35C, is operated by the US Navy. The F-35A variant is used by the US Air Force, and the F-35B, the one operated by the Royal Navy, can vertically take off and land. The US Marine Corps uses this variant. The F-35 is indeed the most advanced fighter aircraft on the planet. Its stealth technology, like special radar coating and very few hardpoints, makes it difficult for enemies to detect it on their radar. The fighter jet has a radar cross-section of 0.005 metres square, almost the size of a golf ball. Despite its advanced features, the US Government Accountability Office (GAO), in its report, said it would take at least $1.7 Trillion to purchase, operate and sustain the aircraft in its 66-year life cycle due to high maintenance costs and developmental delays.

24 IPOs mobilise ₹9500 crore in June as primary market activity picks up
India's primary market witnessed another busy month in June, as companies lined up to list their shares on Dalal Street amid improving sentiment toward riskier assets, bringing back the buoyancy seen earlier in 2025. Activity, which had remained muted after February, picked up momentum in May, driven by easing fears of a global recession led by tariff tensions and supported by favourable domestic conditions. The RBI's multiple interest rate cuts and its continued confidence in a domestically driven economy have restored much-needed investor confidence, pushing equities higher. The rebound in sentiment has prompted many companies to revive stake sale plans that were previously put on hold in anticipation of better market conditions. Reports also suggest that nearly 75 companies have received SEBI approval to raise funds from investors, indicating that IPO fervour is likely to remain intact. 24 IPOs hit Dalal Street, collect ₹ 9,500 crore In the current month so far, 24 companies have successfully raised ₹9,525 crore from the Indian stock market, according to Trendlyne data. The SME segment dominated the fresh issues, accounting for 75% of the total, while the remaining 25% came from the mainboard segment. Investor interest in these new issues remained mixed. Around 50% of the IPOs received total subscriptions of less than 10 times, whereas eight companies saw strong demand, with subscription levels ranging from 90 to 291 times. Sacheerome topped the chart, with its issue subscribed 291 times, followed by Eppeltone Engineers, Mayasheel Ventures, Influx Healthtech, and Monolithisch India, all of which were subscribed over 100 times. Amid strong investor demand, several of these stocks have also been listed with significant gains. Eppeltone Engineers, for instance, debuted at ₹243, marking a 90% premium over its IPO price of ₹128, and is currently trading 89% above its issue price. Likewise, Monolithisch India was listed at ₹243, a 61.9% gain over its IPO price of ₹143, and is currently trading 92.9% higher. Overall, 15 stocks, including those from both the SME and mainboard segments, are currently trading above their respective issue prices. Among the larger IPOs launched in June were Schloss Bangalore, Aegis Vopak Terminals, and Oswal Pumps, with issue sizes of ₹3,500 crore, ₹2,800 crore, and ₹1,387 crore, respectively. 26 IPOs likely to hit exchanges in first two weeks of July The pipeline for new listings in July also looks buoyant, with 26 issues expected to hit Dalal Street in the first two weeks. Bidding for the majority of these IPOs has already opened for investors. A total of seven IPOs, including Kalpataru, Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases, Globe Civil Projects, AJC Jewel Manufacturers, Shri HareKrishna Sponge Iron, Icon Facilitators, and Abram Food are likely to debut on the exchanges on July 1. Meanwhile, HDB Financial Services, the largest offering in the nation's equity market since Hyundai Motor India Ltd.'s ₹27,870 crore deal last year, will see its bidding close today and is likely to list on both BSE and NSE on July 2. Meanwhile, LG Electronics India, which is another Korean-based company, has received approval for a ₹15,000 crore offer-for-sale (OFS). At the same time, Walmart Inc.'s PhonePe, India's largest provider of digital payments, is also reportedly preparing to file preliminary documents for an initial public offering (IPO) that may raise as much as $1.5 billion.
