Malaysia Highlights Quality Products At ASEAN Summit Exhibition
KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) -- The product exhibition and sales booth held alongside the 46th ASEAN Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) showcased high-quality Malaysian products to regional and international delegations.
Open to the public from May 23 to 25, the exhibition serves as a platform to highlight Malaysia's commitment to quality and innovation.
ASEAN Summit 2025 Head of the Logistics, Media and Publicity Subcommittee, Zamshari Shaharan, said participating organisations include the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA), research agency MySTI, and various technology, food and beverage companies.
'Through Jakoa's participation, we want to demonstrate that no one is left behind. The achievements of the Orang Asli community are recognised as part of national development.
'In terms of sustainability, we have exhibitors such as the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), showcasing innovations in vegetable cultivation to help safeguard the country's food security,' he told reporters.
Zamshari encouraged the public to visit the exhibition before it becomes exclusive to ASEAN leaders and delegates starting May 26.
While no official targets have been set for visitor numbers or sales, the exhibition aims to raise the visibility of Malaysian products and expand their reach to regional markets, including ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
As chair and host of ASEAN 2025, Malaysia will hold the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits at KLCC on May 26 and 27.
In conjunction with the summit, themed 'Inclusivity and Sustainability', two key high-level meetings — the 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit — will also take place, providing an important platform to deepen regional and inter-regional cooperation.

Ringgit likely to trade within RM4.22-RM4.23 against greenback next week
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit is likely to trade around RM4.22 to RM4.23 next week, said an analyst. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said that next week multiple United States (US) economic data will be out, namely the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) for the month of May which plays a key role in shaping the market. "While the data might show deceleration in inflation rate, the US Federal Reserve is likely to stay cautious as it is wary about the potential inflationary pressures arising from the tariff shocks. "Already, responses from the US Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Index survey indicated that businesses have become more pessimistic as the higher tariffs have affected the supply chains and resulted in higher operating costs,' he told Bernama. The ringgit ended the week higher against the US dollar, closing at 4.2270/2360 on Friday from 4.2530/2605 a week earlier. The local note traded mostly higher against a basket of major currencies. The ringgit rose vis-à-vis the Japanese yen to 2.9324/9390 from 2.9531/9585 and inched higher against the British pound to 5.7212/7334 from 5.7284/7385 a week earlier. However, it depreciated versus the euro to 4.8268/8371 at Friday's close from 4.8169/8254 at the end of last week. The ringgit traded mostly higher against ASEAN currencies. The local note improved against the Singapore dollar to 3.2862/2934 on Friday from 3.2938/3002 the previous week, edged higher versus the Indonesian rupiah to 259.5/260.2 from 260.4/261.1 and stronger vis-a-vis the Philippine peso to 7.58/7.60 from 7.62/7.64 a week before, However, it weakened versus the Thai baht to 12.9599/9947 from 12.9507/9790 last week. - Bernama

New Lao-Thai friendship bridge to enhance trade and connectivity, say top officials
Image from The Nation Thailand/Asia News Network VIENTIANE (Bernama-Xinhua): The fifth Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge, linking Bolikhamxay province in Laos to Thailand's northeastern province of Bueng Kan, is set to open in December 2025, enhancing regional and international connectivity while fostering trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.. A concrete-pouring ceremony of the fifth Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge was held on Friday in Bolikhamxay province, attended by Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit, and officials from both countries. The project is an important part of Lao's sustainable growth plan and will help the country improve infrastructure and become better connected regionally and internationally, according to a Lao Economic Daily report on Saturday. The 1,350-metre bridge marks a major step in bilateral cooperation, with 98.4 per cent of construction on the Lao side and all approach roads and immigration facilities completed. The bridge is expected to cut travel time between the two provinces by up to three hours, boosting trade and tourism. Penang govt to study decision on 5% discount for first-time homebuyers among Indian Muslims, says Sim
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government will review its decision to offer a 5% discount to first-time homebuyers among the Indian Muslim community for one year before implementing it, says Steven Sim. The Penang DAP chairman said he had discussed the matter with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, adding that the latter agreed the matter to be brought up for review and discussion at the upcoming state executive council meeting. "I take note of the public feedback regarding the 5% discount given to the Indian Muslim community for the purchase of unsold (overhang) property units in Penang," he said in a statement. Sim said it is important for the state government to continue upholding the principles of social justice and to ensure that the right of every Malaysian to own a home is protected. Earlier, state housing committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo said the state government has approved measures to revitalise the property sector. Sundarajoo said the decision was made during the state executive council meeting on Saturday (June 7) and the state planning committee meeting on Tuesday (June 3), following discussions with housing industry stakeholders. He, however, said the discount excludes bumiputra quota units and does not affect existing housing policies. The provision of the discount is based on developers' social responsibility and does not involve financial support or subsidies from the state government. Meanwhile, state MCA secretary Yeoh Chin Kah criticised the state government over the measure, questioning if it introduces a new form of racial quota. He questioned why the Penang government couldn't base its housing policy on economic status rather than race and religion and said that DAP is promoting a "Malaysian Malaysia" while introducing racial policies that divide society.
