Harris claims 'game's gone' as he feels ref cost Cambridge against Town

Cambridge United boss Neil Harris said that the 'game's gone' after being frustrated by refereeing decisions in the 3-2 defeat to Swindon Town. Swindon got their first win of the season on Saturday as goals from Aaron Drinan, Harry Smith, and Darren Oldaker proved to be enough to see off The U's. After the game, Harris was very annoyed with various decisions from the referee, which he believed cost his team opportunities to score. He said: 'There was so much good with the performance; what's bad is the result and conceding three really poor goals. 'And then the referee's performance was probably as bad as those two points lost. I have been to see him already. 'Sullay Kaikai has got a one-on-one, and he has stopped the game. I suppose that is League Two, but he needs to be questioned for that from the powers that be, certainly. 'The rule at the end, what is that all about? We get a corner and they give a free kick to the goalkeeper, who was not even involved with the lad lying on the floor, who then gets up. 'The game's gone. The game's absolutely gone in that aspect. It is so soft that it is embarrassing. 'The referee, all he has to do in two instances, is play for a millisecond longer, and we might score in the first one and in the second, we have a chance to score. 'I got an apology on both fronts. The second one, I get he has to be careful with a head injury, but the game's gone. It is a joke nowadays; the game and the players are so soft. 'Just play on, the lad is alright, he gets up off the floor. I am all for safety first, but the referee has to manage that situation; it is his job to manage the game, and he has let us down badly by not letting us play on for a fifth of a second longer in both instances.' Swindon players rated Harris praised the attacking qualities of Swindon, but was still furious with his team for how they conceded. He said: 'It really hurt me because we scored two good goals and had lots of opportunities with the ball in the box, but to concede the three goals like we did is really poor. 'We shot ourselves in the foot against, let's be honest, a really good attacking side that has ability at the top end of the pitch, but we gave them a leg up.'

'She's brilliant' - Munroe praises his nan as he helped Town to victory

Finley Munroe credited his nan for helping him through the week as he got his first assist for Swindon Town against Cambridge United. Swindon got their first win of the season, 3-2 against Cambridge, having gotten over an early goal from James Brophy, with Aaron Drinan, Harry Smith, and Darren Oldaker getting the goals, before Sullay Kaikai notched. Munroe set up Oldaker's goal, but was looking like a doubt to play leading into the match after he came down with tonsillitis during the week. Ian Holloway revealed the impact of the Aston Villa youngster's nan during the week in helping him be available to play. Munroe said: "Yes, [it has been a tough week], I had tonsillitis this week. "I had a bad [training] session on Thursday and got a bit of stick from everyone, and then I found out I had tonsillitis. After that, everyone gave me a bit of a breather. "[My nan] is brilliant, honestly, I tell my dad everything and it goes straight to my nan, and then my nan sends me a message telling me exactly what to do. The gaffer was loving it." Having had a strong loan spell in the Spanish third tier last season at Real Union, getting three assists at the club owned by Unai Emery. Munroe said that he wants to be a big part of the Swindon attack this season, and having gotten an assist, feels he has made a strong start. He said: "I just want the ball. When the ball is on one side, it gets switched over, and it leaves me with space. I think that is when I can create something special. "When I flicked it over the guy's head, I knew when Darren [Oldaker] passed me the ball, he rushed over to me, so I knew the space would be behind him. "The main aim for the team, and for me, is to get promotion, but I think part of it is getting goals and assists. "I want to help the team in that aspect; today I got an assist, so hopefully I can keep going moving forward. "That is what I like to do, I like to get the ball, create half a yard of space and just put the ball in a dangerous area. "I think that is all you need, just a bit of space, get the ball out of your feet and just cross."

Stockport sign Andrew on short-term contract

Stockport County have signed experienced left-back Danny Andrew on a one-month contract. The 34-year-old was released by Cambridge United at the end of his contract earlier this summer and has joined Dave Challinor's squad after impressing the manager as a triallist in a pre-season friendly with Salford City. Andrew has played 570 games in a 17-year career, his longest stay being four seasons at Fleetwood Town from 2019 to 2023 - his second spell at Highbury. Stockport are short of left-back cover after Ibou Touray joined Bradford and Ryan Rydel departed for Exeter on loan, while the only incoming replacement so far has been Tayo Edun, who is facing a "prolonged spell" out with injury. Challinor told the club website: "He comes at an important time, and we feel his experience, leadership and adaptability of playing in different positions at this level will be really important over this period. "The short-term nature of the deal suits everyone at present and we'll assess things over the period." Transfers - August 2025
