Watch: Look into Oscar-nominated film 'Nickel Boys'
'Nickel Boys' directed by RaMell Ross is nominated at the Oscars for best picture and best adapted screenplay.
One of the most cinematic events of Hollywood's award show season is just a few hours away.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences are slated to present a number of awards, recognizing artistic and technical excellence across the film industry, to the makers and actors behind some of your favorite films from 2024 at 97th Academy Awards.
Last month, the Academy unveiled its Oscar nominees which includes a broad range of films, from the nearly four-hour historical drama "The Brutalist" to the fantasy musical blockbuster "Wicked."
The 2025 Oscars will be held at the at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on Sunday night. And comedian Conan O'Brien has been tapped to serve as this year's master of ceremonies.
Details of the ceremony remain under wraps, but there's a good chance that event organizers will take a cue from the recent Grammy Awards, which tastefully and appropriately made heroic firefighters and fundraising a focus after wildfires wreaked havoc across Southern California last month.

WBD Shareholders Nix David Zaslav's 2024 Pay Package In Non-Binding Vote

Shareholders at Warner Bros. Discovery gave a thumbs down to the company's executive compensation for 2024 — multi-million dollar paydays led by CEO David Zaslav's $51.9 million package. The vote, informally called say-on-pay, is required at publicly traded companies but nonetheless non-binding. Boards of directors insist that they take the votes to heart and if there's dissent engage seriously with their biggest shareholders, and that is sometimes the case. At Warner Bros. Discovery, however, Zaslav's pay has been in the spotlight for years, including on the picket lines during the recent Hollywood strikes. Discovery To Junk Status On "Weak Credit Metrics" That Would Get Worse If Company Splits Stockholders at the company's annual meeting declined to approve, 'on a non-binding, advisory basis, the 2024 compensation of the Company's named executive officers,' WBD noted in an SEC filing with the result of votes cast showing that 59% of shareholders who cast ballots voted against WBD's pay plans. The general rule of thumb is that support less than 70% is notable. Waner Bros. Discovery stock has floundered since the merger three years ago, which burdened the company with debt. Credit ratings agency S&P last month downgraded it to junk status citing 'weak credit metrics.' It's not just that. Pay experts noted that members of the board's compensation committee decided to adjust the metrics they themselves set in order to pay the chief executive more. Public companies report the pay of their top five highest paid executive officers in annual proxy statements filed with the SEC each spring for the previous year (if they operate on a calendar year). Pay is one of a handful of items along with the election of directors and shareholder resolutions that stockholders vote on at annual meetings. Leading proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services, which puts out highly reseached reports each year ahead of annual meetings to guide shareholders, recommended voting against WBD's executive pay and said the 'compensation committee demonstrated only limited responsiveness to shareholder concerns following consecutive years of low say-on-pay support.' In a statement today, Warner Bros. Discovery's Board of Directors said it 'appreciates the views of all its shareholders and takes the results of the annual advisory vote on executive compensation seriously. The Compensation Committee of the Board looks forward to continuing its regular practice of engaging in constructive dialogue with our shareholders.' Ryan Coogler Remembers Reaction to Denzel Washington's Reveal That He's Joining BLACK PANTHER III — GeekTyrant

Marvel is known both for its secrecy, and its pageantry, when it comes to revealing big name stars in the studio's upcoming films. They've been known to do it from the Comic-Con stage, to roaring fans, as well as via five-and-a-half-hour livestreams a la Avengers: Doomsday . So when Denzel Washington casually dropped the bomb that he was going to join the cast of Ryan Coogler's Marvel sequel, Black Panther III , fans and studio execs alike were stunned. A lesser actor may have been in major trouble, but in the case of Academy Award-winner Washington, it seems like everyone was just amused. During an appearance on the podcast 7PM in Brooklyn (via CB), Coogler was asked directly about the comments Washington made while on the Gladiator II press tour. The filmmaker revealed that he is indeed hoping to work with Washington in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Coogler spent some time discussing his close personal history with Washington, explaining how he's fortunate enough to view the Hollywood icon as 'family.' He's been hoping to collaborate with Washington and is excited for them to work together. Coogler explained, 'There's no fiction out there. Denzel is family at this point … I've been trying to work with him since day one. I think he's the greatest living actor, and in terms of what he means to our culture, forget about it. I've been talking to him about this to him for a long time … I was surprised when he mentioned it, but it's not like it's not true.' Washington called Coogler after his reveal and apologized for spilling the news. We still don't know who the actor will play in the sequel, but it's bound to be good. Black Panther III is currently in development, but it has not been officially dated on Marvel's release schedule yet. Stay tuned for updates.
