Palak Tiwari says mom Shweta Tiwari is her toughest critic: ‘ She's tackled the same kinds of roles at my age.... '
Palak Tiwari
recently opened up in an interview about the powerful influence her mother, television icon
Shweta Tiwari
, has on her personal and professional life.
Talking to The Free Press Journal, when asked if her mother is her most honest critic, Palak responded confidently, 'Indubitably, yes.'
She shared that Shweta knows her abilities and flaws even better than she does herself.
Reflecting on their parallel journeys, Palak said, 'Our journeys are eerily similar — this is roughly the same age she began her career, actually five years younger than I am now. So, she knows the traps and pitfalls of this phase — she sees exactly where I'm going wrong.'
'We're very similar kinds of performers'
Palak emphasized that what makes their relationship special is not just the mother-daughter dynamic, but the fact that Shweta is also a seasoned actor who understands the craft deeply.
'We're very similar kinds of performers,' Palak explained. 'She's tackled the same kinds of roles at my age, so when she gives feedback, it's from experience.' Palak shared how Shweta's guidance goes beyond lines and delivery; she notices subtle facial expressions and gestures, offering detailed insights that only someone with years in the industry could provide.
With a smile, Palak said, 'She raised me, after all. So she'll watch me and say, 'That thing you do with your eyes, cute in person, not flattering on screen.' It's invaluable, really.' 'When we argue, I get scared…'
Palak also recounted a personal story about how deeply her mother's feedback runs. 'She once told me, 'When we argue, I get scared seeing your angry expressions. They're so intense, I hope they never translate badly on screen.' And I was like, 'Seriously? While I was trying to ace that monologue, you were judging my facial expressions?' But that's just her, she always sees the bigger picture.' Despite having a mother who isn't afraid to point out her flaws, Palak approaches her career with grace, balancing the legacy she inherits with her own evolving identity.
On the work front, Palak was last seen in 'Romeo S3', a thriller where an officer investigates a drug ring involving virus-laced drugs. The film was directed by

Earning a staggering ₹ 125 crore for a single show, he's the highest-paid actor on OTT with a net worth of ₹ 427 crore (approximately $50 million USD), as per multiple reports. Ajay became the highest-paid OTT actor in 2021 when he signed for the Hindi adaptation of the hit British series, Luther, Rudra: Edge of Darkness. Starring as the cop with a dark history, he reportedly charged more than ₹ 100 crore for the seven-episode show. As per a report of Bollywood Hungama, Ajay was paid almost ₹ 18 crore per episode of the show. In total, he took home ₹ 125 crore and became the highest-paid actor in Indian entertainment history. His salary beats big players like Shah Rukh Khan who reportedly charged between ₹ 90 and ₹ 100 crore for his films Raees and Zero. Salman Khan is believed to charge a similar amount for his film, Bharat. Around the same time, Salman reportedly received a payment of approximately ₹ 50 crore for his 2021 film Antim: The Final Truth. When the sound of silence is prized
The Kamal Haasan starrer Thug Life is in trouble in Karnataka because of the star's remark that Kannada came out of Tamil. The film industry in Karnataka has demanded an apology from him before clearing the film for release, but Kamal has refused to do so. A court in Bengaluru, too, has indicated in a statement that includes local language phrases that the sentiments of the masses cannot be hurt so casually and has thought that an apology would be required. Without that apology, the film may find it difficult to be released in Karnataka. All South Indian languages came out of a common source that resembles them to different degrees. But if someone says that one of them came out of another, it is like equating a language as it is spoken today with that source. It has been found, for instance, that Proto-Dravidian, a reconstructed source for South Indian languages, has commonalities with a language spoken near the Zagros mountains in Iran—since the Harappans are supposed to have been a mixture of early Indians and migrants from that region. In any case, all these are academic exercises and cannot have much bearing on the controversy, because that stems from political loyalties and beliefs. The creation of linguistic states was a rational decision, but it had major repercussions that were not anticipated. It created language loyalties in pockets where Hindi was not widely spoken, like South India. The Devanagari script is associated with Sanskrit, which has Brahminical associations, and language in South India has also become connected to caste issues.

Karan Johar cryptically reacts to rumours of insuring his face after secret South Korea trips: 'The oh-so-secret scoops!'
Karan Johar has always known how to make headlines, whether it's for his fashion, films, or fiery talk show comebacks. But this time, the filmmaker is trending for a rather unexpected reason. A viral Reddit post claims that the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director secretly flew to South Korea multiple times to get one very specific thing done: insurance for his face. According to the post, Johar was allegedly inspired by a close friend from the South Indian film industry who had done the same. 'Rumour has it Karan Johar secretly flew to South Korea multiple times to get… his face insured. Yup, inspired by a close friend, and apparently it's a trend there,' the post read. It added cheekily, 'Insiders say he's been way more chill since—smiling more, less snappy, even gave a rare compliment at work. No word from him yet, but now we're all wondering: does this cover acne, sunburns, wrinkles? And how much is that premium?!' Karan breaks his silence—sort of While the director hasn't confirmed or denied the claim, he did respond with a cryptic Instagram Story. 'Read the rumours, the whispers. The oh-so-secret scoops! Well, keep up the drama and stay tuned,' he wrote, adding fuel to the speculative fire. Karan wouldn't be the first Bollywood celebrity to get a unique part of their body insured. Amitabh Bachchan's iconic baritone voice is protected, while John Abraham once reportedly insured his much-talked-about backside. So face insurance? Sounds like classic KJo drama, served with a side of flair. What else is KJo up to? While the rumour mill churns, Karan Johar is staying busy on the professional front. He's set to host the Hindi adaptation of the international reality show The Traitors on Amazon Prime Video. The series premieres June 12, with new episodes dropping every Thursday. Karan Johar's Fashion Love Began with Zeenat Aman! Meanwhile, Dharma Productions has a stacked slate. Among the big releases: Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari starring Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, Dhadak 2 with Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, Chand Mera Dil featuring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri with Kartik Aaryan and Nagzilla, a VFX-heavy spectacle. Johar also made waves at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, where Dharma's Homebound—directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and starring Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa—had its premiere. The film follows two childhood friends from a small North Indian village chasing police jobs, only to find their bond tested by ambition and desperation.
