DK Shivakumar orders demolition of buildings causing flooding in Bengaluru
Karnataka deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar said on Thursday that he has ordered Bengaluru civic authorities to demolish buildings obstructing the natural flow of rainwater and contributing to flooding.
Shivakumar, who holds the Bengaluru development portfolio, said, 'The chief minister and I have already visited the rain-affected areas. This is a very important junction. The problem started here and has since spread to other areas.'

He added that individuals obstructing the natural flow of water have obtained stay orders from the court, and even civic officials were not cooperating to reduce flooding in these areas.

"Therefore, I have instructed officials to remove the buildings causing the problem under the Disaster Management Act," he said.
Shivakumar clarified that the government does not intend to damage anyone's property or act unjustly, but it was important to find a permanent solution to ensure the rainwater would flow smoothly and not cause inconvenience.

'We are not keen to take away anyone's property and give them trouble. I am visiting the problem spots myself to verify. Everyone has agreed to allow the works to continue. But it is important to find a permanent solution. We don't want to demolish any random building, but it is important to ensure that rainwater flows smoothly without causing a flood. We can't allow Bengaluru's reputation to go down the drain,' he said, as quoted by ANI.
The Karnataka deputy CM also urged landowners to cooperate, saying, 'If a mistake has occurred due to technical reasons, we will provide compensation. We need a permanent solution to this issue. Everyone has agreed, and we will continue our work.'
The deputy CM had inspected various areas in Bengaluru, prone to flooding during the rains, including the Manyata Tech Park, where stormwater drains had contributed to water being inundated.
He also stated that the chief commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, M Maheshwar Rao, had been given full authority to remove encroachments.

New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): The Ministry of Defence (MoD) issued an advisory to media organisations and journalists on Tuesday, urging them to respect the 'privacy of senior armed forces personnel and their families.' 'The Ministry of Defence appreciates the continued interest and support of the media in covering the activities, achievements, and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces- the Army, Navy and Air Force. Media engagement plays a critical role in informing the public and fostering a greater understanding of national security matters,' the Ministry said in its advisory. 'In the context of ongoing operations such as Operation Sindoor, senior officers across the Armed forces have rightfully come into the public eye owing to their leadership roles,' the Ministry said. 'It has come to the attention of the ministry that this increased focus has extended beyond professional coverage into the personal lives of the officers and their families. Media personnel have reportedly approached their residence, attempted to contact family members, and pursued personal coverage unrelated to their official duties,' it added. The Ministry said, 'Such actions are deeply inappropriate and potentially compromising to the dignity, privacy, and safety of the officers and their families. While senior officers may serve in prominent public roles, their families remain private citizens and must be treated with due respect and sensitivity.' The four points of advisory include -- - Refrain from visiting or attempting to contact the private residences or families of serving or retired Armed Forces personnel for personal stories or interviews, unless expressly invited or cleared through official channels. - Avoid publication or broadcast of personal details, including residential addresses, photographs of family members, or other non-operational information that is not in the public interest. - Focus media coverage on professional and operations aspects of Armed Forces activities and leadership, and avoid speculative or intrusive reporting on private lives. - Respect the boundaries of privacy and operational confidentiality, particularly during periods of active operations or heightened national security. 'The Ministry of Defence further reiterates its commitment to transparent and constructive engagement with the media. At the same time, it appeals to all media stakeholders to maintain responsible journalistic standards, respecting the personal space and dignity of those who serve the nation and their families,' it added. Nadda was addressing the newly passed out students from several branches of healthcare education at 15th Convocation of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER), held at JNMC Campus in Belagavi, Karnataka. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemical and Fertilisers, JP Nadda, attended the event as the Chief Guest and Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, was present as the Guest of Honour. On this occasion, Dr. Shailesh V. Shrikhande, Deputy Director of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, was conferred with the honorary Degree of Doctor of Science to mark his exemplary contribution to the field of medical sciences. 'For years, there has been a practise of working in silos. One branch didn't recognize others. It is PM Modi's vision that we should adapt an integrated approach. In AIIMS, Delhi, a Centre for Integrative Medicine and Research (CIMR) is result of this holistic approach,' Nadda said. He added, 'I am very delighted to see the integration here at this convocation, where students of allopathy, Ayurveda, Pharmacy etc. are getting their degrees at a single stage.' Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and stewardship of Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, India has taken a leap in medical education and health care. He referred to increased number of seats in medical undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as the number of AIIMS increased in last 11 years.
