Kiss to coach invitational team against Lions, Kefu leads Pasifika
Australia has only four Super Rugby sides after the demise of the Melbourne Rebels last year and the Lions will play the tour matches against the invitational sides in Adelaide and Melbourne as preparation for the test series.
Kiss, who will take over as Wallabies coach from Joe Schmidt in July next year, said it would be a privilege to lead the AUNZ side along with a coaching team including former All Blacks boss Ian Foster for the July 12 clash.
"The British & Irish Lions are one of world sport's most renowned teams and to be able to play them at an iconic Australian venue such as the Adelaide Oval will be an incredible spectacle," he said in a press release.
"I'm looking forward to working with a coach like Ian who has wide-ranging experience at the highest level of the game and linking up with the wider management in due course."
World Cup-winning Wallabies number eight Kefu, who was coach of Tonga until 2023, said it would be a particular honour to lead the inaugural First Nations & Pasifika XV in Melbourne on July 22.
"First Nations and Pasifika people contribute massively to the game all around the world," Kefu said.
"The significance of this game in celebrating those ongoing contributions can't be overstated, especially against a team with the history of the British & Irish Lions."
The first clash between the Lions and Australia will take place in Brisbane on July 19 with the second and third tests in Melbourne and Sydney on the following two Saturdays.

"But no, I think in the last couple of years, he's really come into his own as a 10 and being able to manage the team. "Ultimately, that's the main job that he's got tomorrow, to manage all the guys around him, and then his brilliance will come out once he's into the game." Sexton said he had been impressed with the work the apparently carefree Russell does on his game behind the scenes as well as with his defensive efforts in the tour matches. "He's probably been our best defender in the back line on this tour so far, I would say," Sexton added. "And that's the thing that you always knew, that it was in there with him. He's a feisty guy out there in terms of physicality. He doesn't look that big but he's fronted up big time this tour with a lot of impact tackles. And we'll need him tomorrow in that regard, because they'll come down his channel I'm sure." Sexton said evidence of Russell's increased maturity had come when the Scot led Bath to the English Premiership title before joining up with the Lions. "You can see it with Bath, getting to finals and winning trophies," he added.

Scotland end Pacific tour in emphatic style with win over Samoa
Scotland proved far too strong for Samoa as they completed their three-match Pacific tour with a comprehensive 41-12 triumph in their test at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday. The Scots, with nine players away with the British & Irish Lions on tour in Australia, outscored Samoa seven tries to two with Ewan Ashman, Rory Hutchinson, Arron Reed, Kyle Steyn, Grant Gilchrist, Kyle Rowe and George Turner all going over. Fergus Burke put over two conversions and George Horne one. Benjamin Petaia Nee-Nee and Duncan Paia'aua scored tries for Samoa, who had plentiful support but put on a disjointed showing in their first international since last September. Four first half tries had Scotland enjoy a healthy 22-0 lead at the break as nippy scrumhalf Jamie Dobie played a central role in setting up their scores. It was his clever kick after eight minutes that won a lineout and set up the subsequent maul for the first try for Ashman, who along with prop Rory Sutherland flies to Australia on Sunday to join the Lions as forward cover. Hutchinson's try five minutes later came after a clever chip through the Samoa defence by his centre partner Stafford McDowall with Dobie's long pass to Reed on the left wing seeing Scotland going over again in the 31st minute. Another kick from Dobie won Scotland a lineout near the Samoa tryline from which a series of long passes found space for Steyn to run in on the opposite wing. Scotland continued the scoring five minutes into the second half through Gilchrist but then a rare mistake in defence allowed Samoa lock Nee-Nee to intercept near the line and cross over for their first score. A spectacular dive in the corner from Rowe in the 55th minute kept the tourists well in command but five minutes later centre Paia'aua wriggled free from tired looking Scots tacklers to get Samoa's second try. Scotland, however, finished the game with another display of forward power with Turner pushing over for their final try three minutes from time They had started their tour in New Zealand with a win over the Maori All Blacks but then lost last weekend in Fiji. Samoa, who had six debutants in their starting line-up including former England international Jacob Umaga, played the match in New Zealand because their stadium in Apia is undergoing renovations.

Kefu calls on Wallabies forwards to go beserk against Lions
MELBOURNE :Wallabies icon Toutai Kefu has called on Australia's forwards to bring fire and fury in the series-opener against the British & Irish Lions and defy the doomsayers tipping a 3-0 whitewash for the hosts. Joe Schmidt's Wallabies head to Brisbane's Lang Park on Saturday missing key players through injury and face a formidable Lions outfit that has won all five tour matches in the country. However, former Australia number eight Kefu, who played in the 2-1 series win over the Lions in 2001, says the Wallabies have all the ammunition they need to upset Andy Farrell's team. "The biggest motivating factor for these players are they are huge underdogs," Kefu told Reuters. "The Lions haven't been beaten on our soil yet. They've pretty much manhandled most of our teams. "What bigger motivation as a player, to play one of the most iconic teams in the world who are on a huge roll and everyone's expecting you to lose? What bigger motivation can you have? "As a player, you would just go crazy and absolutely go mental, wouldn't you?" The Wallabies are missing their chief enforcer in loose forward Rob Valetini, ruled out with a calf injury. Uncapped flanker Nick Champion de Crespigny has big shoes to fill in place of Valetini in the back row. Never one to take a backwards step in his 60-test playing career, Kefu encouraged De Crespigny to live up to the billing of his teammate Fraser McReight, who praised the new boy as a "psycho" in the contest. Kefu's preparations suffered a late blow with former Wallabies loose forward Pete Samu, who has Samoan heritage, ruled out of the match due to an eligibility problem. Kefu said the Lions' management had objected to Samu's selection despite representations made by Rugby Australia (RA). A Lions spokesperson said only eligible players, as agreed by both sides as part of the tour agreement, could play in the game. An RA spokesperson said the governing body had hoped Samu would play. The selection wrangle comes a few weeks after Lions chief executive Ben Calveley demanded Australia field their most competitive teams to help the tourists prepare for the Wallabies series, and for "fans, partners and broadcasters". A disappointed Kefu said he was surprised the Lions would insist on Samu's omission.
