Why did Casey-Louise die? Heartbreaking photos show girl, 13, cradling her baby sister - amid mystery over her tragic final hours as teen arrested over 'her rape and murder' is bailed
The teenage boy suspected of the rape and murder of 13-year-old Casey-Louise Horrocks is back home behaving 'like he doesn't have a care in the world,' according to neighbours. The schoolgirl was found by paramedics 'unresponsive' last Monday night. She died later in hospital. West Yorkshire Police arrested the boy, who lives in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, on suspicion of Casey-Louise's rape and murder and the alleged rape of another local girl, aged 16. He was released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries on Friday, August 15. A neighbour said: 'I saw him come home on Friday lunchtime and he can't have spent more than 15 minutes in the house before he was heading out again. 'He left through the gate and jogged away, probably off to meet his mates. 'He is acting like he doesn't have a care in the world.' Another local said: 'He is well known in the area and you would think he would be keeping a low profile under the circumstances. 'I mean, a young lass has died and I think he should show a bit more respect. Maybe stop in and not go out so much.' Today new photographs of Casey-Louise, including one of her cradling what is believed to be her baby sister, Mia, were posted by friends and relatives on a tribute site online. A link to the site, posted on Facebook by Anthony Barton Funeral Directors, encouraged people to share memories, poems and pictures of the 'bright, caring soul who touched the lives of everyone around her.' Among those leaving their 'thoughts' was Casey-Louise's 'best mate', named Cole, who wrote: 'RIP Casey you'll be missed so much. Can't believe you left us so early your (sic) flying with the angels now, fly high love you lots my thunder buddie in the sky.' Her Auntie Dani added that she missed her 'so much,' saying: 'Forever 13. Love you so much bubba xxxx.' While Paula Mills wrote: 'Fly high with the angels beautiful girl. I hope there's an amazing afterlife waiting for you where all your hopes and dreams come true. #foreveryoung#forever13.' While another contributor added: 'You've left a massive hole in the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing you. Sweet dreams Casey, you'll be sadly missed xx.' In a statement, Mossley Hollins High School, in Manchester, where Casey-Louise was a pupil, said they were 'heartbroken' at the death of the 'big-hearted' youngster. 'We are heartbroken by the loss of Casey‑Louise, a one-of-a-kind young person who brought spirit and warmth wherever she went,' the statement said. 'Casey was bright, full of character, always full of life, and never afraid to be herself. Those lucky enough to know her saw what a big heart she had. 'She was funny, sweet, had a smile that could brighten anyone's day and will be deeply missed by our school community. 'This heartbreaking news has deeply affected our community and as we come to terms with this loss, our thoughts are with Casey-Louise's family, loved ones and all those impacted at this incredibly difficult time.' Pupils will be offered emotional support when they return in September, the statement added. Casey-Louise was found unresponsive by emergency services just after 11.30pm last Monday, August 11. She was taken to hospital but died in the early hours of the following day. A postmortem was inconclusive and it is understood police are awaiting the results of toxiocology tests and a second autopsy to try and establish her cause of death. Originally from Manchester, Casey-Louise was in local authority care when she died. She had been living in Liverpool and was just visiting Huddersfield at the time of her death. Friend Tina Cooper also set up an online fundraiser for the youngster's funeral. So far more than £2,000 has been donated. She said: 'Casey was a vibrant happy 13-year-old with all her life ahead of her. 'Our hearts go out to Casey's family. No one should have to bury their child. Let's help her family send their daughter on her final journey with dignity.' Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, of West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, previously said: 'A post-mortem was not able to determine how she died, and we continue to treat her death as unexplained at this time, pending more enquiries. 'Those enquiries are complex and are likely to be lengthy as we work to fully understand the circumstances of the girl's death. Specially trained officers are supporting her family at this time.' The news of Casey-Louise's death has sent shockwaves through the town. Huddersfield MP Harpreet Uppal said: 'This is a tragic case and my thoughts remain with the 13-year-old teenager and her family and friends. I have been in contact with the police and I am being updated on the investigation.'

'I had to identify my PANTS from 15 pairs': Mother who had her underwear stolen by police officer tells of 'nightmare' ordeal after cop was caught going through drawers on CCTV
A horrified mother who had her underwear stolen by a police officer has told how the 'nightmare' left her suffering sleepless nights and months of emotional distress. Marcin Zielinski, 27, was caught rifling through Lea-Ann Sullivan's drawers before grabbing a pair of underwear and slipping them into back pocket during a visit to the property on September 12, 2024. The Hertfordshire Constabulary officer admitted one charge of theft and a charge of corrupt/improper exercise of police powers and privileges by a constable and was jailed for four months on Monday. While his sentencing has brought some 'closure', Lea-Ann is still reeling from the horrific year-long ordeal and has left her trust for police at an all-time low. 'I think I've cried, I've laughed, I've been angry. I feel vulnerable, feel scared. I just think I feel sick about the whole situation,' the mother-of-two told the Daily Mail. 'I'm constantly thinking, what did he want them for? Why did he take them? What's he going to do with them? How many more people has he done it to?' Lea-Ann felt so 'violated' by the incident that she has since got rid of all her underwear and the chest of drawers as it became a constant reminder of the harrowing video. Her daughter, who is autistic, was also left reeling from the incident and is now so scared of police that she is reluctant to ever call them if she gets in trouble. 'Once I found out he had taken them, every time I looked into that drawer the video played back in my head,' Lea-Ann added. 'I had to clear my drawers and throw away all my underwear as they kept reminding me of the situation and I felt disgusted. 'I would never have let him into my home if he was not a police officer and he has completely misused his position and trust to facilitate his own habits.' During the night of the incident, Lea-Ann was arrested in connection with an unrelated matter and was later released with no further action taken. But she was still in custody when her partner Grant first discovered the ring doorbell footage and was shocked by what he saw. 'It wasn't until a few days later that we looked back on the camera and saw the policeman going into the drawer and going back into the drawer. 'On the footage he signals to the other guy "I've searched this room, go and search the other room". 'So he sent the other officer out and that's when he proceeded to open the drawer and stick them in his back pocket.' 'I was very shocked and angry to say the least. My wife was sick. 'She still doesn't go in the drawer now, she got rid of the cabinet. 'My wife was in the cell still, so I went straight to the police station and reported it.' The couple were then faced with further turmoil as Lea-Ann was forced to identify her underwear in a police parade in front of other officers. 'Lea-Ann had to go and do an ID parade to identify the knickers. 'We had to go to secret location to identify out of 15 pairs of knickers that they'd got from the officers house. The knickers weren't there. 'But the officer couldn't deny it, because he was on film taking it. 'There was 15 pairs of knickers, and who's to say that he didn't nick them from the other people?' Lea-Ann revealed that her 13-year-old daughter, who is autistic, has also been left emotionally traumatised by the horrific incident. 'My little girl keeps thinking well what if they took something from my bedroom because there's no cameras in it. 'When I got arrested, she was upstairs and her dad was downstairs. She said the officers just kept giving her dirty looks and made her feel uncomfortable. 'So she got her teddy and went down and sat with her dad. 'We told them my daughter is autistic and to be sensitive and quiet with the situation. 'They didn't. They just ripped it apart, were noisy, made a mess everywhere. They was quite disrespectful towards our house.' Lea-Ann said her daughter is now scared of police and believes she will never approach a police officer if in trouble. 'It has greatly changed how she views the police, and she is reluctant to go to the police in fear that she will experience similar or worse,' she said. Lea-Ann believes Zielinski's sentence was not harsh enough and believes he should be behind bars for longer. 'I don't think [his sentence] is long enough, but I'm all about teaching someone lesson. 'Originally I thought it was just going to get a suspended sentence, because I really did not think they were going to take it seriously. 'But I do think he does deserve to see the law from the other side. He can't just have the power trip to get away with it. Lea-Ann remains concerned that Zielinski was only caught thanks to their own ingenuity and fears what would have happened if he targeted someone else. 'What about the people who can't fight for themselves, that are elderly, that are vulnerable. What if that's a disabled lady. 'Or what if he takes it to the next level. Look at Wayne Cousens, he started flashing and he's killed a lady. 'I just don't trust any of them, and I don't even trust the women.' Zielinski was also condemned by his force who said his behaviour represented a 'fundamental betrayal of the public'. Zielinski resigned from the force while under investigation in November 2024. Hertfordshire Constabulary Assistant Chief Constable Genna Telfer said: 'Zielinski has let down the public of Hertfordshire, the police service as a whole and his former colleagues, who act with professionalism and integrity. 'His criminal behaviour damages the reputation of policing and represents a fundamental betrayal of the public and the values for which the police service stands.'

Killer Constance Marten is seeking to launch an appeal against her baby death conviction
Killer Constance Marten is looking to appeal her conviction over the death of her newborn daughter. Marten, 38, and her partner Mark Gordon, 51, are currently awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence of their baby, Victoria, in 2023. She has now applied to have her conviction reviewed by the Court of Appeal, according to the BBC. The Court of Appeal previously rejected the couple's bid to challenge their child cruelty conviction in their first trial, which ended last year. They were also found guilty of concealing the birth of a child and perverting the course of justice by not reporting her death, however jurors were unable to reach a verdict on manslaughter which prompted a retrial. The Mail previously revealed that Marten was planning to appeal her manslaughter conviction on the basis that the jury was prejudiced after she blurted out that Gordon was a convicted rapist. Her lawyers were planning to claim the trial judge did not warn the jury quickly enough to ignore her own words following the bombshell admission, which almost caused the retrial to collapse. Gordon has also vowed to appeal the verdict, which he claimed was 'faulty' and 'unlawful' moments after his conviction. The couple went on the run from authorities with their baby to prevent her being taken into care between January 3 and February 27, 2023. They were arrested in Brighton, Sussex, following a seven week manhunt. Police later found their baby Victoria dead inside a Lidl bag in a disused shed nearby. Victoria's remains were too badly decomposed to establish the cause of death. Prosecutors claimed she died from hypothermia or was smothered while sleeping with her parents in a tent in cold and damp conditions. The defendants claimed their daughter's death was a tragic accident after Marten fell asleep on her. A jury in their retrial found Marten and Gordon unanimously guilty of manslaughter on Monday after 14 hours and 32 minutes of deliberations. They are now facing years in jail when they are sentenced at the Old Bailey on September 15. In their first trial last year, the defendants were convicted of perverting the course of justice, concealing the birth of a child and child cruelty. In that trial, jurors were not told about Gordon's violent past, which was only partly revealed in their second trial. In 1989, Gordon, then aged 14, held a woman against her will in Florida for more than four hours and raped her while armed with a 'knife and hedge clippers'. Within a month, he entered another property and carried out another offence involving aggravated battery. Gordon, who moved with his mother from Birmingham to the US at the age of 12, was sentenced to 40 years in jail and was released after 22 years. In 2017, Gordon was also convicted of assaulting two female police officers at a a maternity unit in Wales where Marten gave birth to their first child under a fake identity. Jurors were not told that Gordon was also suspected of a incident of domestic violence in 2019 which left Marten with a shattered spleen. Gordon had refused to allow paramedics into their London flat to treat her even though she was 14 weeks pregnant, it emerged during legal argument. She spent eight days in hospital then put her life and that of her unborn child at risk by attempting to discharge herself, with Gordon's support, it was alleged. It was following that incident that the family court decided the couple's other children should be taken into care.
