South Bengal districts on yellow alert for heavy rain till August 15: IMD
Kolkata is set for a grey, rainy day, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting generally cloudy skies until tomorrow, August 14. Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms can be expected for parts of the city, offering some respite from the heat. Temperatuíres are expected to linger between a warm 33 degrees Celsius and a comparatively cooler 27 degrees Celsius, while sticky humidity will persist, ranging from sweltering 92 percent at its peak to 63 percent at its lowest.
Focusing on South Bengal districts, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued yellow alerts due to thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in most districts including Howrah, Hooghly, Purulia, and Bankura until August 15. Districts like South 24 Parganas, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, and others have a yellow alert for the 16th. Due to sea conditions being 'moderate to rough' according to the RMC, 'fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea along and off south Odisha coast, West Central Bay, and deep sea area of North-West Bay of Bengal from August 13 to 15.'
Meanwhile, the IMD predicts that widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall activity is very likely over the districts of North Bengal. Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Coochbehar have orange alerts in place for August 14. This is due to the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) occurring at some places. These districts also have yellow alerts in place for August 15 to 20. The other northern districts of Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, and Malda have been issued yellow alerts for August 14 due to very heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) and thunderstorm conditions accompanied by gusty winds.
The possible impact of these weather conditions is highlighted to be possible waterlogging, reductions of visibility during intense rain, and the possibility of landslides in hilly areas. People are advised to take caution and avoid movement in affected areas.

Rains wipe out monsoon deficit in AP, Rayalaseema turns surplus
Visakhapatnam: The recent heavy rains in parts of the coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and Rayalaseema regions in the state has brought down the overall monsoon precipitation deficit in Andhra Pradesh from 24 per cent on July 31 to zero per cent on Aug 14. Andhra Pradesh registered an average of 287.6 mm actual rainfall from June 1 to Aug 14 in 2025 while the normal rainfall is 288.9 mm. The IMD reported that the rainfall deficit in coastal Andhra Pradesh regions (comprising 18 districts and Yanam of of Puducherry) has reduced from 19 per cent on July 31 to single digit (just 7 per cent) on Aug 14. The Rayalaseema region (comprising eight districts) recorded 20 per cent surplus rains on Aug 14 from the 28 per cent deficit on July 31. However, some districts in the north coastal Andhra Pradesh continue to reel under deficit rainfall. People in vizag city have been waiting for the good rains to recharge the groundwater table and to beat the sultry weather conditions. As per the IMD, Visakhapatnam district in CAP region recorded 31 per cent deficit rainfall, followed by 25 per cent deficit in Nellore, 24 per cent deficit in Srikakulam district, 23 per cent in Yanam, 14 per cent deficit each in Parvathipuram Manyam and Eluru districts and 13 per cent deficit rainfall in Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR), East Godavari and Kakinada districts and 12 per cent deficit in West Godavari district. In the Rayalaseema region, except for YSR Kadapa district, which registered a 9 per cent deficit, the remaining seven districts registered surplus rainfall. Among all the districts in the state, Anantapur district recorded 49 per cent excess rainfall (highest in the state), followed by 47 per cent in Sri Sathya Sai district, 28 per cent excess in Palnadu, 25 per cent excess in Chittoor, 23 per cent excess in Guntur, and 22 per cent surplus each in Nandyal and Annamayya districts. Speaking to TOI, scientist at IMD-Amaravati said S Karunasagar for the first time in the ongoing southwest monsoon period, the rainfall deficit narrowed down to zero. He said parts of the state may experience moderate to heavy rainfall for next two to three days and the possible rains will further improve the rainfall scenario in the coming days, he added. The farmers said that groundwater levels in parts of the state will rise due to the recent rains and it will help farming activities across the state. IMD issues extremely heavy rainfall warning for Madhya Maharashtra on Aug 17-18
1 2 Pune: India Meteorological Department ( IMD ) on Thursday significantly upgraded its rainfall forecast for Maharashtra, issuing an 'extremely heavy rainfall' warning for Madhya Maharashtra for Aug 17-18, with the low-pressure system over Bay of Bengal continuing to influence weather. Pune city is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall starting Aug 16. IMD has also issued an orange alert for Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra till Aug 18, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Konkan and Goa on Aug 17, and Madhya Maharashtra on Aug 17-18. The weather department has also extended the heavy rainfall warning for ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra till Aug 20. "The low-pressure area over northwest and adjoining areas of west-central Bay of Bengal and south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts persists over the same region as of 2.30pm on associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height. It is likely to move west-northwestwards across south Odisha-north Coastal Andhra during the next 24 hours. This system may have a significant role to play in the expected upcoming spells," an IMD official said.
