Cavan get their man as Dermot McCabe leaves Westmeath for Breffni county
Dermot McCabe has left his managerial role with Westmeath to take over in the Cavan hot-seat for a three year term following ratification at a Cavan county management meeting tonight. The Gowna clubman, who played with Cavan from 1995 to 2009, and is the county's GAA Head of Games, will take over immediately, subject to ratification by the county committee, and he succeeds Raymond Galligan in the post. The post was expected to be between McCabe and Finbar O'Reilly, but the latter withdrew from the process prior to the duo's scheduled interviews on Saturday. McCabe played in the 1995 Ulster SFC final defeat to Tyrone and helped Cavan reach the 1996 All-Ireland under-21 final, then won the Ulster final with the Breffni men in '97, becoming Cavan's second-ever All-star in the process At club level, he won six senior county championships with Gowna. After his playing retirement, McCabe went on to fulfil several roles for Cavan at inter-county level. "Dermot has been part of many successful management teams at club and county level," read a Cavan statement. "In 2011, he was an integral part of the Cavan minor team management when they won the Ulster Championship. "In 2020, Dermot was also part of the management team that won the Ulster Senior Football championship having reached the final in 2019. "His home club Gowna won two Cavan SFC championships with Dermot again being an integral part of the management team. "Dermot's backroom team will be finalised in due course. Andy Moran is set to be the new manager of the Mayo senior footballers, with the county board to ratify the appointment of the Ballaghaderreen clubman at its next meeting. Moran takes over from Kevin McStay, whose three years at the helm came to an end after the green and red were knocked out of this year's championship at the All-Ireland group stage. The new management ticket will include former Mayo player Colm Boyle and Paddy Tally, who recently managed Derry.

Andy Moran will be proposed as Mayo's new manager at the next county board 41, was recommended for the position at an executive meeting of the board tonight, thus getting the nod over Armagh's Tony McEntee, who was his main rival for the role. Andy Moran has gained management and coaching experience with both Monaghan and Leitrim in recent years.
