Suryakumar undergoes successful sports hernia surgery in Germany

India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has undergone a successful surgery for a sports hernia in his lower right abdomen in Munich, Germany.
PTI had reported last week that Suryakumar was suffering from a sports hernia in his right lower abdomen and will go under the knife if required.
'Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I'm already on the road to recovery. Can't wait to be back,' the 34-year-old batter wrote on his social media handle on Wednesday (June 25, 2025).
A sports hernia is a soft tissue injury in the groin or lower abdomen, often involving muscles, tendons, or ligaments.
Following the surgery in Germany, he is expected to begin rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in about two weeks.
India's next white-ball assignment is a tour of Bangladesh in August, which will have three ODIs and three T20Is.
Suryakumar, who hasn't featured in the 50-over format since the 2023 World Cup final, is expected to return to lead the T20I side in Chattogram on August 26.
This was Suryakumar's third surgery in as many years. He underwent ankle surgery in 2023 and previously had the same sports hernia procedure in 2024. Before the surgery, Suryakumar was in scintillating form for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 and was named the Player of the Tournament.
He had amassed 717 runs — second behind Orange Cap winner Sai Sudharsan (759 runs) — as the Mumbai Indians finished in the playoffs, where they lost to Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2.
In the T20 Mumbai League that followed, he led Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, scoring 122 runs in five innings.

Arjun Tendulkar To Open Bowling For India, Prithvi Shaw To Open Batting? Ignored Star Gives Approval

Young batter Prithvi Shaw is going through a rough patch in his cricketing career. After being dropped and continuously ignored by the selectors for a spot in the Indian team, Shaw's biggest shocker came when was sidelined for Team Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 edition. Apart from this, he even failed to attract any buyers in the IPL 2025 auction and remained unsold. Many rumours were spread that the biggest reason of Shaw's sudden downfall is his unhealthy lifestyle and lack of discipline. Recently, Shaw gave an interview to News24 Sports, where he was asked whether he visualises himself and Arjun Tendulkar playing for India, with Shaw opening the batting and Arjun opening the bowling. "Absolutely. Why not?" said Shaw. For the unversed, both Shaw and Arjun Tendulkar, son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, are childhood friends. Talking about Shaw's IPL career, the 25-year-old batter played for Delhi Capitals for some years before getting released by the franchise after the 2024 season. On the other hand, Arjun joined the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in 2022 and made his IPL debut in 2023. He played five matches for MI and was bought again by them during the 2-25 mega auctions. However, he did not get even a single game in that season. Speaking about Arjun's IPL career, Shaw said, "Only when you play, you'd realise how talented and skilled he is." Lastly, Shaw stated that his ultimate goal is to play for India in both ODI and T20 World Cups and he will be giving his best, in order to prepare for the upcoming edition. "One of my goal is to win the World Cup for India. Both the World Cups, ODI and T20. The next World Cups will be in my mind, and I will prepare for them," said Shaw. Shaw made his debut for India in 2018 in a Test match against West Indies. He scored 339 runs, including a century, in five Test matches that he played for India before getting dropped in 2020. Apart from this, he played six ODIs and one T20I for India and his last appearance for the national side came in 2021.

On Jasprit Bumrah Missing 2nd Test, 'Ajit Agarkar And Shubman Gill' Factor Comes Up: Report

Will Jasprit Bumrah play in the second Test at Edgbaston? That is the biggest question facing the Indian team management as it looks to draw parity against England after losing the series opener from a commanding position at Leeds. In his media interaction post the five-wicket loss on day five, head coach Gautam Gambhir made it clear that there will be no change in the workload of injury-prone pace spearhead Bumrah, who is slated to play three out of five Tests in the English summer. With the first Test ending on June 24 and the next beginning on July 2, there is enough time for Bumrah to recover, but only he knows best about his body. Bumrah, the only bowler who consistently posed a challenge for the English batters, took a five-wicket haul in the first innings and delivered an overall 44.4 overs in the match. A pace attack without Bumrah makes the opposition's task significantly easier and increases the Indian team's headache, over deciding which of the two remaining Tests its trump card could be a part of. The management, thus, would have had a much easier decision to make had Shubman Gill and Co gone to Birmingham 1-0 up. "That is a tough call indeed for the team management. He should ideally play when the series is alive but the management knows best on how to manage his workload," former India chief selector MSK Prasad told PTI. A BCCI source added: "Bumrah has close to a week's gap between first and second Test. So the decision rests with chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill. They might assess him a day before the Test, and take a final call." There is only a three-day gap between second and third Test, scheduled at Lord's from July 10-14, and therefore, Bumrah is certain to not feature in both the games. "We won't change the plans," said Gambhir on Tuesday when asked whether the team management will push Bumrah to play four Tests. "For us to manage his workload is more important because there's a lot of cricket going forward and we know what he brings on the table as well. Before he came on the tour, it was already decided that he's going to play three Test matches." Edgbaston or Lord's? Gambhir and Co clearly have a tough call to make.

Ashwin, unlike Sunil Gavaskar, urges Rishabh Pant not to do ‘front flip' celebration: ‘He has nothing to prove'

Legendary India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has urged Rishabh Pant not to do his trademark front flip celebration after scoring a century. The wicketkeeper batter scored twin centuries in the Leeds Test against England, while he celebrated his first innings ton with a somersault celebration to enthral fans at Headingley. However, in the second innings, despite demand from legendary Sunil Gavaskar from the stands, he didn't replicate the same celebration and went for another one. He said he has nothing to prove and is already a top batter in the lineup. 'I've only one request, please don't do that front flip. In Tests, your body gets tired unlike in IPL where you will not play more than 50-60 balls. He is a bona fide top batter in the Indian lineup. So he has nothing to prove,' Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. I trained in gymnastics during school,' he said, while in conversation on Sony Sports. 'In school, I did gymnastics. I'm very used to it. Even if you wake me up in the middle of the night, I can do a somersault. After the accident, I had to work even harder at it. But I put in the work, and now it's easy for me again," he added.
