"Now we are going to propose this work in this year's budget," he told TOI.Local residents report that the lack of access roads has turned the bridge into a dead investment. "People struggle to commute. Students from the nearby Mook Badhir (deaf and mute) school and a newly opened Hindi medium school face difficulties every day," a local resident said. The area also houses a Muslim graveyard, further underlining the critical need for accessible roads.The bridge was initially constructed to facilitate an upcoming sewage treatment plant (STP), and while that component was completed, the accompanying bridge infrastructure remains unutilised. The locality also faces sanitation issues, with residents alleging that the sewage line was only partially cleaned by a contractor, leading to unhygienic conditions.Samrat Ashok Nagar and its surroundings, including Patel Layout, Deepak Nagar Housing Society, Naseeman Housing Society, Dattatreya Nagar, and Gaurav Agrawal's scheme, are home to over 10,000 people. Two major infrastructure schemes—one worth Rs584 crore and another Rs544 crore—are ongoing in the area, but locals complain that the most basic need, road connectivity, is being neglected.The bridge, built over the Nag river, was meant to be a vital link for residents to access essential services such as fuel stations, gas agencies, and schools, including a military school nearby. Locals say that despite repeated visits by civic officials, including the commissioner, no permanent resolution has been implemented.Residents are now demanding urgent intervention from NMC to construct the missing roads and make the bridge functional, as continued inaccessibility affects daily life and public safety.

Nashik: Following a recent fatal bridge collapse in Pune district, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has expanded its plans to conduct structural audits of all 48 bridges within the city limits. This decision comes as a critical measure to ensure public safety, especially with the Simhastha Kumbh Mela scheduled to take place in Nashik between 2026 and 2028. Initially, the civic body had planned to audit 12 bridges in preparation for the Kumbh Mela. However, the tragic incident involving a bridge on the Indrayani river in Pune district, which claimed four lives, prompted a more comprehensive approach. Nashik boasts of 48 bridges on Godavari river and its three tributaries — Nasardi, Waldevi, and Waghadi. Seven of these bridges were constructed for the last Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2015. Two years ago, the NMC conducted a structural audit of the century-old Ahilyabai Holkar bridge and some other bridges. These bridges were found structurally fit during the audits. Ahilyabai Holkar bridge was built in 1895 on Godavari river. Gadge Maharaj and Ram Setu bridges are over six decades old. The latter was built in 1955, while the former was built in 1956. Both bridges connect the old Panchavati and old Raviwar Peth areas of the city. There is a huge movement of pedestrians through these bridges on a daily basis. The structural audits of both bridges were done by the smart city corporation around two to three years ago. The NMC is also constructing nine new bridges on the Godavari river and its three tributaries in view of the upcoming Kumbh Mela. The tender process for this has already been started by the civic administration. Around 5 crore people are expected to visit Nashik during Kumbh Mela.

3 contractors fined Rs1cr for failing to level dug-up roads
Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) imposed a cumulative fine of Rs1 crore on three contractors for failing to level roads dug up for sewer line works under the Rs900 crore Amrut 2.0 scheme—even after repeated reminders. The penalty, levied for the first time of such proportions, came after months of inaction by M/s Laxmi Civil Engineering Services Pvt Ltd, M/s Kalpataru Engineering and Construction Ltd, and M/s P Das Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. These agencies were tasked with laying a 537km sewerage network across Nagpur, of which 125 km was completed so far. However, over 100km of internal roads, mostly in south-west and south Nagpur, remain in a damaged condition, with dug-up surfaces not restored, causing serious inconvenience to residents and motorists. The contractors failed to comply NMC's repeated directives since February in this regard. Municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari issued a stern ultimatum on May 27, instructing all agencies to restore roads before the onset of monsoon. NMC even roped in VNIT experts who provided specific restoration techniques for tar and cement roads. Yet, no visible action followed. Music, sweets, bullock cart rides for schoolkids on Day 1 of academic year
Nashik: Students joining schools in Nashik for the new academic year were in for a delight as their first day was marked by traditional music, the presence of officials and elected representatives. Teachers and other seniors welcomed the students with 'aarti' and sweets, along with installed selfie points and decked-up classrooms to give students a more positive experience on their first day. Students rejoiced as got to meet their old and new friends, as well as new teachers who may have joined the school during the vacation. "It was my son Aryan's first day at the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) school. Though our home is next to the school, he was reluctant to step inside. The minister interacted with the students on the occasion and made a video call to deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde from his mobile. "He also served sweets to the children after the formal programme ended," the officer added.
