Michigan State's Tre Holloman, Xavier Booker, Gehrig Normand to enter transfer portal

Yahoo24-04-2025

Less than 36 hours after Tre Holloman sat in tears in a locker room in Atlanta, the Michigan State basketball captain will enter the transfer portal.
Holloman's agents and the school confirmed the junior guard will explore leaving the Spartans after their 30-7 season and run to the Elite Eight. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Minneapolis native shared the captaincy with departing senior Jaden Akins this winter.

In MSU's season-ending 70-64 loss to Auburn on Sunday, Holloman scored just two points and was 0-for-10 from the field. That was an otherwise outlier performance in strong season in which the combo guard split point guard duties with redshirt freshman Jeremy Fears Jr. and worked along with Akins and freshman Jase Richardson in the Spartans' backcourt.

Holloman averaged 9.1 points, 3.7 assists and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 37.3% from 3-point range and 85.1% at the free-throw line. He started 16 of MSU's 37 games, moving to the bench when Richardson joined the starting lineup in early February.
His 3-pointer at the buzzer won the Spartans' road game at Maryland and helped deliver Tom Izzo's 11th Big Ten regular-season title with a 17-3 conference record.

College basketball scout Chris Wash also reported that wing Gehrig Normand will also enter the portal. The 6-5 Texas native played 26 minutes in 13 games as a redshirt freshman, averaging 2.0 points and going 2-for-6 from 3-point range. Norman redshirted in 2023-2024.
In addition, former five-star recruit Xavier Booker also put his name into the transfer portal on Tuesday. The 6-foot-11, 240-pound Indianapolis native started the first three games of this season before being moved into a reserve role, then saw his minutes begin to dwindle as the Spartans' 30-7 season progressed.
Two players left the program via transfer last season, guard A.J. Hoggard (Vanderbilt) and center Mady Sissoko (California) for their fifth and final season of eligibility. Pierre Brooks (Butler) was the last player to leave Tom Izzo's program within the four-year eligibility window. Players can enter the portal but do not necessarily have to transfer.

Spartans ranked just outside top 20 in latest preseason poll for 2025-26 season

Spartans ranked just outside top 20 in latest preseason poll for 2025-26 season Michigan State basketball is listed among the top 25 teams heading into next season in Jon Rothstein's latest rankings update. Rothstein released an updated batch of preseason rankings for the 2025-26 season on Monday, which had the Spartans as a top 25 squad. Michigan State came in at No. 21 in Rothstein's updated rankings. Among Big Ten teams, Rothstein had Michigan State come in at No. 5. The Spartans were behind the following Big Ten teams: Purdue (No. 1), Michigan (No. 5), UCLA (No. 6) and Oregon (No. 20). Rothstein's rankings -- which goes up to 45 teams -- also included the following teams from the Big Ten behind the Spartans: Illinois (No. 22), Wisconsin (No. 23), Ohio State (No. 26), Washington (No. 30), USC (No. 33), Maryland (No. 35) and Nebraska (No. 41). Rothstein is on the lower end when it comes to Michigan State compared to his peers. The Spartans have typically been ranked in the No. 15 - 20 range in similar preseason polls, so this spot is in line with those but just a smidge lower than others. Notre Dame Predicted to Suffer Recruiting Loss to Big Ten Powerhouse

Notre Dame Predicted to Suffer Recruiting Loss to Big Ten Powerhouse originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and head coach Marcus Freeman have put together a strong 2026 recruiting class, consisting of 16 total commitments, ranking No. 4 in the nation, according to On3. Advertisement Despite already having a handful of talented players, it's clear they aren't done yet and one name they've been making an impression on is EDGE McHale Blade, whom they've hosted six times and have an official visit scheduled for June 20. They could certainly come out on top, as he's down to his top seven schools, choosing between the Michigan Wolverines, Wisconsin Badgers, Purdue Boilermakers, Stanford Cardinal, USC Trojans, Illinois Fighting Illini and Notre Dame Unfortunately for the Fighting Irish, though, on Monday, On3's Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction for Blade to land with the Wolverines, which he just took an official visit with on Friday. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman.© Michael Clubb/South Bend Tribune / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images This would no doubt be unfortunate for Notre Dame, but a big win for Michigan, as On3 Industry Rankings have Blade as a four-star recruit, the No. 21 EDGE, the No. 4 player in Illinois and the No. 155 player in the nation. Advertisement In his sophomore season for Simeon High School, he put up decent numbers, appearing in seven games, accumulating 22 tackles, five tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and six hurries. Of his other top schools, he has also already taken official visits with the Boilermakers (May 24) and the Badgers (May 30), while having one scheduled with the Trojans (June 13), so his options are wide open. If Blade does end up with Michigan, though, he could prove to be a key piece to its recruiting class, which ranks No. 5 in the Big Ten and No. 17 in the nation with a total of seven commitments. Luckily for Notre Dame, though, no matter what, they have already secured several other talented EDGE recruits, including five-star Rodney Dunham and four-star Ebenezer Ewetade. Michigan State baseball lands commitment from Oakland OF transfer, Macomb native

Michigan State baseball lands commitment from Oakland OF transfer, Macomb native Michigan State baseball is adding to their roster for the 2026 season, dipping into the transfer portal for a local product. Macomb (MI) native Trent Rice will be heading to Michigan State after spending two years with Oakland University. He will bring two years of eligibility with him to East Lansing. He played his high school baseball at Marine City Cardinal Mooney Catholic. Rice, a 5-foot-11 and 180 pound outfielder, is a speedster that is going to bring a dynamic element to the Spartans baseball program. In 2024, Rice appeared in 55 of 58 games for the Golden Grizzlies, having a slash line of .253/.355/.356 while recording two home runs and 22 RBIs. He stole 41 bases on 46 attempts, earning his way on the Horizon League All-Freshman team. He followed up his freshman performance with a very similar sophomore performance, slashing .253/.365/.390 with four homeruns and 29 RBIs. On the basepaths, he went 39-for-46 stealing bases. A welcomed, dynamic addition to the Spartans team.
