Morocco Joins Bid to Host 2039 Women's World Cup
Morocco is in talks to co-host the 2039 FIFA Women's World Cup with Portugal and Spain, as the trio look to build on their existing partnership for the men's 2030 tournament.
The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed discussions with its Spanish and Moroccan counterparts to submit a joint bid for the women's tournament—part of a broader push to develop the women's game across the Mediterranean and North Africa.
'One of the main goals of this administration is investing in women's football,' the federation's statement read. 'In this context, we are in talks with the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation with a view to a joint bid for the 2039 Women's World Cup.'
The announcement comes days after Portugal missed out on the chance to bid for the 2035 edition, leaving the United Kingdom as the sole contender. Official bids must be submitted by November, with a vote to follow at FIFA's 2026 Congress.
Morocco spearheads the development of men's and women's football in Africa. The country will co-host the 2030 Men's World Cup – the first time the tournament will be played across two continents.
