Michael Van Gerwen blasted for taking too many holidays with darts star planning to jet to IBIZA and skip next month's World Cup of Darts
The three-time world champion has endured an inconsistent season, going out in the round of 32 at last week's European Grand Prix, before losing 6-4 to Luke Humphries in their Premier League quarter-final in Leeds on Thursday.
Despite struggling for form, the 36-year-old Dutch star is ditching next months World Cup of Darts in favour of a trip to Ibiza.
Earlier this year, the seven-time Premier League darts winner suffered with health problems for two months after picking up an illness while on holiday in Thailand.
Van der Voort, a former UK open runner up, warned his compatriot he 'can't just take a holiday' if he wants to rediscover his best darts.
The 49-year-old told the Darts Draait Podcast: 'Sometimes he plays really well, but then he can't keep it up. He's going to have to train hard.
'He needs to put in the effort or he'll never find consistent form again.
'You can't just take a holiday and expect things to fall back into place. It doesn't work like that.'
Van der Voort previously backed Van Gerwen's holiday, which he said would allow him to be 'fresh' for the remainder of the season.
'I think he'll be on a very big boat near Ibiza around that time. It's all very inconvenient, of course,' he said.
'Playing for your country is a great honour, but let's be honest, the World Cup of Darts was somewhat forced into the calendar.'
'We looked at the schedule, and Michael wants to be at his best in the autumn. That means something has to give.
'He wants to be fresh for the second half of the year, which is why his holiday falls during the World Cup. It's a matter of making choices.
'The World Cup just has a lower priority at the moment. Maybe he'll return to it next year.'

Meanwhile, Professional Darts Corporation Chief Executive Matt Porter supported his decision.
'[Players] have to manage their schedule you know.
'The good thing about our tournaments is that they are strong enough to survive the absence of players.'
Van Gerwen currently sits in fourth in the Premier League Darts table, a single point ahead of Nathan Aspinall, before they face each other in Aberdeen next week.

To me, it (the Premier League) is the hardest trophy in the world to win. Harder than the Champions League. The Premier League is nine months. Mentally, physically, emotionally… It's f***ing murder. 'Look at Mo, for example. You cannot imagine how hard he pushes himself to stay at the top in this league. Mo, he's hilarious. The Argentine admits he once quizzed Salah on when he actually sleeps, only to learn that the forward doesn't like to get more than seven hours sleep. And it's bad news for two London clubs, with West Ham tipped to be relegated and Tottenham expected to finish in the bottom half yet again. Gianluigi Donnarumma's future continues to hang in the balance with Manchester City among the clubs interested in bringing the Paris Saint-Germain star to England Manchester City have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a move for Gianlugii Donnarumma. Italy goalkeeper Donnarumma is tipped to leave Paris this summer following the arrival of Lucas Chevalier, with Pep Guardiola's side among the potential buyers. City have already signed one goalkeeper this summer, with James Trafford rejoining the club after a spell at Burnley. Stefan Ortega is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium, but last season's first choice Ederson could also depart to make way for a Donnarumma swoop. He was left out of the recent Super Cup squad, though, with manager Luis Enrique explaining the situation. 'I can only say good things about Gigio Donnarumma', the boss told reporters. 'He's one of the best players in his position, without a doubt, and he's even better as a person, but we were looking for a different profile of goalkeeper.' Guardiola declined to answer when asked on Saturday if Ederson had played his final game for the club. Instead, he attempted to focus on Trafford's performance after the 22-year-old made a long-awaited debut for the club. "I'm so happy for James. for the fact that he is an academy player and he is a City fan and made his debut in the Premier League here," Guardiola told BBC Radio 5 Live after the 4-0 win at Molineux. "He played really good and I'm really pleased. I like when the young players in the academy can play for Man City, It's really, really good." If Galatasaray do end up signing Ederson, it would see him reunited with former City winger Leroy Sane. German international Sane joined on a free transfer from Bayern Munich earlier in the summer.
