Egypt's PM Welcomes Global Luxury Brands to Explore Investment Opportunities

Taarek Refaat
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met today with representatives of major global luxury brands in New Alamein City, aiming to position Egypt as a regional hub for high-end retail and attract new foreign direct investment in the fashion and lifestyle sector.
The high-level meeting included Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, alongside Claudine Caviac and Ibrahim Sami—strategic partners to some of the world's leading luxury fashion houses. Senior officials from Egypt's export, investment, and trade authorities were also in attendance.
PM Madbouly welcomed the global brand representatives and emphasized Egypt's strategic market potential, noting a growing domestic appetite for luxury products and the opportunity to enhance retail offerings for international tourists.
"Egypt has a vast consumer base. Many Egyptians travel abroad for luxury shopping, and we want to provide those experiences here at home—especially for tourists visiting Egypt," he stated.
He highlighted Egypt's recent economic reforms, including foreign exchange liberalization, which have stabilized currency markets and improved the investment environment. The government is actively working to support "shopping tourism" as part of broader economic diversification goals.
Minister Abdel Ghaffar stressed the government's commitment to attracting international retail giants and detailed several incentives available to foreign investors. These include tax benefits and trade exemptions under the Euro 1 certificate, allowing goods imported into Egypt from Europe to benefit from reduced customs duties.
Claudine Caviac, who has previously visited Egypt for both business and leisure, praised the country's recent development and expressed her optimism about its stability and potential.
'I'm impressed by Egypt's progress. There are clear signs of opportunity here,' she said, noting that she would conduct a detailed feasibility study and present it to leading global luxury brands.
Caviac added that the aim would be to recreate a successful, integrated shopping experience for both Egyptians and foreign tourists—making Egypt a compelling destination for high-end retail.
Strategic partner Ibrahim Sami echoed that sentiment, expressing strong interest in bringing international fashion investments to Egypt and contributing his expertise to the project.
Madbouly concluded the meeting by calling for the development of a concrete action plan to ensure the successful entry of luxury brands into the Egyptian market. He reiterated Egypt's readiness to partner with global retail leaders and support them with infrastructure, regulatory facilitation, and market access.

Israel inks $35 bln deal to export 130 bcm of natural gas to Egypt until 2040 - Economy

Israeli NewMed Energy has signed a landmark deal to export 130 billion cubic metres (bcm), or 4.59 trillion cubic feet (tcf), of natural gas, worth around $35 billion, to Egypt until 2040. The new deal, signed with Blue Ocean Energy (BOE) — which buys natural gas from the Leviathan reservoir for Egypt — marks the largest export deal in Israel's history and the most significant agreement since the discovery of natural gas reservoirs in the country. Under the terms of the new deal, the export of gas to Egypt is expected to continue until 2040 or until all contract quantities are fulfilled, a NewMed press release said. The Leviathan reservoir began exporting natural gas to Egypt shortly after commencing production in January 2020. To date, it has provided around 23.5 bcm of natural gas to the Egyptian market, with a contracted annual volume of 4.5 bcm (0.16 tcf) through Blue Ocean Energy, alongside spot quantities sold on an interruptible basis. The original export agreement with Egypt, signed in 2019, is set to conclude once the total contracted quantity of approximately 60 bcm is sold, which is projected to occur in the early 2030s. The new agreement will replace this existing contract and is divided into two stages. Stage one involves the sale of 0.7 tcf (approximately 20 bcm) of gas. This stage is expected to take effect in the first half of 2026, following the completion of two key projects designed to enhance the production and transportation capacity: 1. The connection of a third pipeline from the Leviathan reservoir to the production platform, increasing gas production to over 0.5 tcf (approximately 14 bcm) per year; 2. The enhancement of the Ashdod-Ashkelon transmission pipeline, currently being carried out by INGL, which will increase the natural gas transmission capacity in the EMG pipeline by an additional 0.07 tcf. Once the first stage comes into effect, it will allow the sale of 0.7 tcf of gas to Egypt annually. Stage two involves an additional 110 bcm (3.88 tcf) of gas. This stage will commence after the completion of the Leviathan expansion project and the construction of a new transmission pipeline from Israel to Egypt via Nitzana. This Leviathan expansion project will significantly boost the annual natural gas production capacity in Israel by approximately 30 percent, bringing it to around 21 bcm (0.74 tcf). The new pipeline via Nitzana will help accommodate increased export capacities from Israel to Egypt. The total gas exports for stage two will amount to approximately 110 bcm (3.88 tcf) in varying annual quantities, which will raise the total sales from Leviathan to Egypt to an annual quantity of around 0.42 tcf (approximately 12 bcm). Thus, the overall export of approximately 130 bcm (4.59 tcf) of natural gas, based on a pricing formula primarily linked to Brent crude oil prices, is projected to generate around $35 billion in revenue for all partners involved in the reservoir. The finalization of this deal will facilitate a final investment decision for the Leviathan expansion project. In February, the Leviathan said it plans to increase annual production capacity to approximately 21 bcm, with potential future expansions. The expansion plan includes drilling additional wells, enhancing subsea systems, expanding processing facilities on the platform, and potentially laying a fourth pipeline between the reservoir and the production platform. Leviathan is the largest natural gas field in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the largest in the world. According to the latest prospective resources report, the Leviathan reservoir contains approximately 600 bcm (21.2 tcf), and production is expected to continue until at least 2064, according to discounted cash flow projections. AJAD Developments Launches Elaia Residential Project in New Heliopolis

AJAD Developments has officially launched Elaia, its first residential project in the Egyptian real estate market, in partnership with Heliopolis Company for Housing and Development. Spanning 85 feddans in New Heliopolis, the development is backed by Saudi investments and over 28 years of Egyptian real estate expertise. Strategically located along Suez Road, one of East Cairo's most rapidly developing corridors, Elaia reflects AJAD Developments' commitment to building sustainable, innovative communities rooted in Arab culture and modern living. 'The company was born out of a Saudi-Egyptian partnership, driven by a group of leading real estate development experts from both markets,' said Counselor Onsy Ammar, CEO of AJAD Developments. 'We aim to position AJAD as a leading player in a competitive market by establishing integrated urban communities founded on innovation, quality, and sustainability.' AJAD Developments is entering the market with a robust EGP 30 billion investment plan, with a long-term strategy to expand across both the Egyptian and Saudi markets. The launch of Elaia marks a strong and ambitious start for the company. The name Elaia is derived from the Greek word for olive tree, symbolizing authenticity, resilience, and deep roots—qualities that align with AJAD's vision for enduring, community-centered developments. Located just minutes from Cairo International Airport, Nasr City, Heliopolis, Madinaty, Al-Rehab, and the New Administrative Capital, Elaia also offers direct access to the monorail and high-speed rail stations, reinforcing its appeal to residents and investors seeking prime East Cairo locations. With only 16% of the land dedicated to built-up areas, the master plan prioritizes green spaces, landscaping, and a walkable lifestyle. Housing options include apartment ranging from 72–170 sqm, townhouses from 152–160 sqm and standalone villas from 190-260, each designed for panoramic views of the open spaces and lush landscapes. Ammar revealed that the project is divided into multiple independent zones, each with its own gated entrance to ensure privacy and security. These zones are equipped with internal services and facilities tailored to the needs of residents. Elaia also features a 1,300-meter commercial promenade, poised to become one of East Cairo's key open-air destinations, offering retail, administrative, and service units for both residents and visitors. The project is fully enabled with smart infrastructure, allowing homeowners to control lighting, alarms, and air conditioning via a dedicated mobile app. 'AJAD Developments seeks to deliver projects that reflect Arab culture with a blend of luxury, innovation, and authenticity. We aim to merge nature with architecture, sustainability with comfort, and local identity with global standards,' Ammar said. Each phase of Elaia includes its own elevated clubhouse, swimming pools, water features, outdoor gyms, walking and cycling tracks, EV charging stations, and smart access systems—designed to offer a high-quality, luxurious lifestyle. Among the key success partners for Elaia are YBA – Yasser El Beltagy Architects, one of the region's leading architectural firms, and ACE the project's supervision consultant. The project's launch event brought together executives from AJAD Developments and Heliopolis Company for Housing and Development, alongside Saudi investor Fares Al-Dossari, industry partners, business leaders, and public figures. The evening concluded with a special performance by renowned artist Bahaa Sultan. تم نسخ الرابط
