OTET paper leak: Crime Branch to take BSE vice-president on remand
The two others are data entry operator Jitan Moharana and working president of the state ex-cadre teachers' association Bijaya Mishra. The trio will be interrogated further to elicit more information and ascertain the involvement of other BSE officials.
The Crime Branch will also go through the Board's standard operating procedure (SOP) and protocols with respect to conducting examinations, to ascertain other higher officials' accountability for their violation.
As per sources, some other officials including a woman who works as a data entry operator in the vice-president's office, are also under CB scanner in connection with the question paper leak case.
Even though the BSE vice-president, who was involved in preparing and overseeing printing of the question papers, came to know about the question paper leak on July 19 night, he had not lodged FIR with the police in this regard. BSE president Srikant Tarai too, was silent on the matter. It was the Board's establishment officer Bulbul Behera who had lodged a complaint with CID(CB) on July 20 following which investigation was undertaken.
This is not the first time that the special OTET question papers have been leaked. Similar incidents had happened in the past but the Board authorities never lodged any complaint apparently to cover up the irregularities in conduct of the examination, some BSE officials alleged.

Illegal job regularisation of Sikhya Sahayaks to be probed
BHUBANESWAR: The Directorate of Elementary Education has directed all district education officers to investigate the alleged regularisation of ineligible Sikhya Sahayaks or junior teachers as assistant teachers. The order came in after members of the primary school teachers' association in a written complaint with the directorate recently, alleged that some district education officers had regularised Sikhya Sahayaks or junior teachers as assistant teachers (level-V) despite the latter not having the mandatory Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) qualification. In 2019, the School and Mass Education department had allowed regularisation of eligible junior teachers as regular primary school teachers in the grade of level-V of the elementary cadre. However, it had mandated that in no case, untrained and junior teachers not having OTET qualification will be regularised. OTET is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) for individuals seeking teaching positions in both government and private schools (Classes I to VIII) in the state. The directorate has asked the education officers to investigate such illegal regularisations in their respective districts and submit a report within a week.

CB to take two more accused on remand
CUTTACK: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police will take Sanatana Bisoi, president of ex-cadre teachers' association of Koraput district and Ramjee Prasad Gupta, a businessman of Cuttack's Badambadi locality on remand in the second phase for interrogation in connection with the Special OTET question paper leak case. Sources said the Crime Branch had prayed the JMFC-3 court for a two-day remand of the duo on August 21 and 22 but the court allowed their remand for one day on August 21. The agency will grill Bisoi and Gupta to elicit more information on the sale of the leaked question papers and to ascertain the money trail. Earlier, the officials of the investigating agency had taken BSE's data entry operator Jitan Moharana and working president of state ex-cadre teachers' association Bijaya Mishra on two-day remand. During interrogation, both had confessed to their role in the question paper leak. In his statement, Moharana had revealed that he obtained the question papers from the laptop of the BSE vice-president using a pen drive well before the examination. He printed hard copies from a printer, placed the pen drive and the papers in an envelope, and drove to Nayagarh, where he handed it to Mishra's brother. Subsequently, Mishra transferred Rs 2.5 lakh to Moharana's bank account via UPI. The leaked papers were later sent to Ambodala in Rayagada, where accused Prasant Kumar Khamari, a teacher at government upper primary school at Bhejipadar in Bhawanipatna, translated them using Google Translate and rewrote them by hand to cover up the leak.

Rajasthan Patwari Exam 2025: Two Dummy Candidates Caught, Probe Underway
Two dummy candidates were caught during the Rajasthan Patwari exam on Sunday. The cases were reported from Dholpur and Udaipur in the first shift. Rajasthan Staff Selection Board Chairman Major Alok Raj confirmed this and said the matter has been handed over to the investigation agencies. During the verification process, a mismatch was found in the candidates' details. A preliminary probe also revealed that both individuals had earlier appeared as dummy candidates in place of others. Authorities are now investigating further, and strict action is expected. Sharing an update on X, Chairman Major Alok Raj posted: 'The Patwari exam is today in the first shift, with significantly better attendance compared to previous times. Out of 3.38 lakh candidates, 88.24% appeared for the exam.' Students who appeared for the test said the paper was of average difficulty. According to them, current affairs, general knowledge, and mathematics were comparatively easy, while the reasoning section was tougher. Many candidates believe the cut-off marks may be higher this year due to the overall simplicity of the paper. The examination is being conducted for 3,705 Patwari posts, with over 6.76 lakh candidates registered. To accommodate the large number of aspirants, the Staff Selection Board arranged 1,030 centres in 38 districts. Jaipur alone had 176 centres, where more than 1.33 lakh candidates were registered. The Board has also clarified in its official notification that if the recruitment exam is conducted in more than one phase, the process of normalization will be applied to ensure fairness in evaluating candidates' scores.
