NIA attaches properties of Pak-based Dawood gang's operative in Gujarat

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached two immovable properties belonging to an aide of Pakistan-based fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim in connection with 2015 double murder case in Gujarat's Bharuch, officials on Friday said.
The properties of the arrested accused, Mohammad Yunus alias Manjro, have been attached under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on the orders of NIA special court, Ahmedabad, in the case, they said.
"The attached properties include his residential house in ward no 3, city survey no 3614, Bharuch City (Total area: 143.96 sq. mt.) and ward no 3, city survey no 3615, Bharuch City (Total area: 29.59 sq. mt.)," said a statement issued by the probe agency.
Manjro was arrested for his role in the criminal conspiracy and murder of the BJP workers -- Shirish Bengali and Pragnesh Mistry -- in November 2015, it said.
"These attachments by the NIA are a very important step towards dismantling the terror ecosystem of D-company gang operating from Pakistan," the probe agency said.

Bhopal: A doctor residing in the Chunabhatti area was allegedly duped of Rs10 lakh by a Mumbai-based man and his associates, who promised him an entry into a popular Bollywood actor-hosted reality TV game show. Acting on the complaint, Chunabhatti police reare preparing to send a team to Mumbai for their arrest. Investigation officer SI Uday Sisode said that Dr Abhineet Gupta, the complainant who runs his own clinic in Chunabhatti, came in contact with the accused, Karan Singh, through a mutual friend in 2022. Karan, who operates an event organising and management business in Mumbai, claimed to have strong connections in the television industry. He assured Dr Gupta that he could get him an entry into a high-profile reality TV game show, hosted by a Bollywood actor. Karan allegedly told Dr Gupta that the process would involve expenses of around Rs 50 lakh. Eager to participate in the show, Dr Gupta agreed. Karan even took him to an office where officials explained the formal application process for the show. However, Karan demanded Rs 10 lakh in advance to "facilitate" the selection process. Dr Gupta paid the amount, but his name did not appear in the list of selected participants that season. Upon inquiry, Karan assured him that his selection was confirmed for the next season. However, when the next season also passed without any progress, Dr Gupta tried to contact the show organisers directly and discovered that there is no such practice of accepting money for entry into the show. When Dr Gupta demanded his money back, Karan initially gave excuses and later outright refused to return the amount. Realising he was duped, Dr Gupta lodged a complaint with Chunabhatti police. After preliminary investigation, the police registered a case of cheating, cops said.

Two persons arrested with 3.28kg of ivory
1 2 Keonjhar: Two persons were arrested for their alleged involved in illegal ivory trade under Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, on Sunday. Around 3.28 kg ivory was seized from them. The arrests were made during a raid by police and forest personnel in Erendei village under Maliposhi beat of Patna range. According to sources, the patrolling team encountered a man behaving suspiciously with a white bag around 10 pm on Saturday. Upon questioning, the person identified himself as Madan Mohan Tamudia, 38, of Erendei. Saurabh Pradhan, IPS officer on probation, assistant conservator of forests (ACF) Ashok Das, and ACF Keonjhar Sudipta Panda told a news conference that a search of Tamudia's bag revealed two ivory tusks and an additional tooth, leading to his arrest. During interrogation, Tamudia disclosed that the tusks were collected by Ratha Soren from Hadgarh village under Soso police station limits in Keonjhar district during the Raja festival. This led to Soren's arrest.

Removal of dangling tanker to take 3 days
Vadodara: The final countdown for the removal of the tanker — precariously perched on the broken slab of the Gambhira bridge over the Mahi river — began on Monday morning, 27 days after the bridge collapsed, killing 21 people. Large numbers of police personnel were deployed on roads leading to the bridge on Monday. The operation to salvage the tanker using high-pressure air bags was launched on Friday, after a 50-member team from Porbandar-based Marine Emergency Response Centre (MERC) arrived in Anand district. Anand collector Praveen Chaudhary said that the operation is expected to be completed in two or three days. "The agency that has the expertise for this operation has set up its field headquarters 900 metres away from the bridge, from where the operation will be managed. The agency will use sophisticated techniques and specialized equipment to extricate the truck," he said, adding that CCTV cameras have also been placed at several locations to monitor movements at the site. All human movement on the stretch has been halted. "The truck will be safely removed using equipment such as high-pressure pneumatic bags, a hydraulic strand jack and engineered cantilevers. The operation will be carried out to ensure no harm comes to people or the bridge structure," Chaudhary said, adding that ample precautions are being taken as the structural stability of the bridge is compromised. On Monday, marine air bags (pneumatic roller bags, sometimes called balloons), which are typically used to launch ships and lift vessels in shallow water, were placed near the tanker. These bags will be inflated under the truck to lift it from its current position, which is tilted towards the river 50 feet below. The cantilevers will be used to align the vehicle with the bridge, and a strand jack will be used to pull the truck out.
