MACC has ‘25 hours a day', free to probe into KDN officers
PUTRAJAYA: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has voiced his full support for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in carrying out its duties following the arrest of two Home Ministry (KDN) officers in an anti-graft operation, dubbed Op Outlander, recently.
Saifuddin even said he would refrain from further comment, stressing his trust in the integrity of the investigation process.
'MACC has '25 hours a day' to go in and investigate. Let them do their job according to their responsibilities,' he told a press conference after the KDN monthly assembly here today.
Saifuddin reiterated that this stance has been a consistent principle of his since the beginning of his tenure.
On May 8, MACC confirmed the arrest of two KDN officers and one civilian in an operation conducted in Putrajaya. The arrests were linked to an investigation into alleged corruption involving the fast-tracking of citizenship status confirmation (PTW) applications.
On another development, Saifuddin emphasised that legal action against individuals facing criminal charges, including foreigners, will be carried out in accordance with Malaysian law.
Referring to former Goldman Sachs partner Tim Leissner from the United States, Saifuddin noted that legal proceedings have already begun under the Financial Monetary Act, and an Interpol Red Notice has been issued.
'If there is an allegation against someone, we act in accordance with the rule of law. We are a sovereign nation. Since he (Leissner) is a foreign national, we will use the appropriate legal channels like we always did,' he said.
On May 7, The Wall Street Journal reported that Malaysia had filed an extradition request for Leissner in connection with his role in the 1MDB scandal.
The Malaysian Government submitted the request to the United States Department of Justice in August 2024.
Interpol placed Leissner on its Red Notice list last November, effectively alerting member countries to detain him if located.

Beng Hock's family not filing judicial review over NFA decision
Teoh Beng Hock's sister, Lee Lan, during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today. KUALA LUMPUR : The family of Teoh Beng Hock has decided not to pursue a judicial review of the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) decision to once again classify his death as requiring no further action (NFA). His sister, Lee Lan, said the decision was made after consulting family members and their lawyer, Ramkarpal Singh. 'The judicial review will take three years to complete. Chances of winning the review are also slim as it would be the first judicial review brought in a criminal case,' she told a press conference at the KL & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall here today. Last week, the AGC said it found insufficient evidence to bring charges following a fresh investigation by police, thus maintaining its NFA classification. The re-investigation had been ordered by the Kuala Lumpur High Court in November last year, which directed police to re-examine all aspects of the case. Lee Lan had expressed disappointment over the outcome and called for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to honour his promise to deliver justice in her brother's case. Beng Hock was found dead on July 16, 2009 after falling from the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, Selangor, after being questioned for several hours by officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). An inquest into his death initially returned an open verdict. However, in 2014, the Court of Appeal ruled that Beng Hock's death was caused by 'one or more unknown persons', including MACC officers. Meanwhile, Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement chairman Ng Yap Hwa raised concerns over the selective presentation of the Court of Appeal's judgment in AG Dusuki Mokhtar's letter. 'His letter stated that the Court of Appeal in 2014, ruled that an unknown person caused Beng Hock's death through unlawful means. 'However, the actual judgment is that one or more unknown persons, including MACC officers, caused his death through unlawful means,' he said at the same press conference. Ng called for Dusuki to clarify why the reference to MACC officers was not included in the official explanation. He also questioned whether this omission indicated that the AGC and police had excluded MACC personnel from the scope of their investigations. Lee Lan again appealed to Cabinet ministers, especially those from DAP, to help her family uncover the truth behind her brother's death. 'When the current ministers were in the opposition bloc, they told us they had no power to help the case. Now that they are in power, they are unable to keep their promises,' she added.

Four Singaporean tourists in private-hire car injured in accident near Genting
Image from The Star/Asia News Network SINGAPORE/GENTING HIGHLANDS (The Straits Times/ANN): Four Singaporean tourists were injured in an accident near Malaysia's Genting Highlands on June 8, with the driver of the pickup truck that collided with their car arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene. The accident happened at around 4.50pm at the Pahang section of Jalan Genting Permai towards the middle of the highlands, reported Malaysian daily China Press. The Singaporeans were being driven in a private-hire Perodua Myvi when they were involved in a collision with a pickup truck driven by a man described as a non-Malaysian. The Toyota pickup was ferrying three passengers. In photos from China Press, the right side of the grey Myvi's front bumper and headlamp are seen to be badly damaged. The car is parked on a patch of grass next to the road. The photos show that at least two of the tourists required assistance and were wearing neck or leg braces. The Myvi driver was unharmed, China Press reported. The driver of the pickup truck had driven away from the location of the accident in an apparent attempt to escape, according to the report. When on the road, drivers are advised to be as cautious as they are courteous to other drivers on the road. If you somehow find yourself in a dispute on the road, it's best to keep a level head, or you'll be paying a hefty fine and a police report. Over the weekend (7th June 2025), a Malaysian man was assaulted by a driver with a Singapore-registered vehicle over a traffic jam at Taman Sutera Utama in Skudai, Johor. The man's girlfriend, who had been recording the incident, reports that her partner was spat on and that the man had kicked and dented their car. A video posted on Facebook by user Vicky Sing reveals that the incident started during a traffic jam as the car ahead of them was driving inconsistently, which caused a congestion. Surrounding vehicles, including the couple, started honking, and shortly after, a Toyota Corolla Altis, which had been honking persistently behind them, pulled up beside their vehicle and started shouting at them. The man questioned Vicky's partner why he had not moved, which he explains that it was caused by the car in front of them. The man retorted, 'Don't think you're so great just because you drive a BMW'. Sing also reveals that the man who exited his car to physically confront her boyfriend had body-checked and spat on him. Sing notes that her boyfriend did not retaliate and ushered the man to settle the dispute at the police station, which provoked the driver further. The latter then proceeded to dent their car by kicking it multiple times. The driver allegedly shouted, 'Go police then, I am not afraid of you!' before speeding off. After the incident, the couple lodged a police report, and the driver has now reportedly been caught.
