Bright future for Pakistan-Oman relations: Pakistan envoy
As we mark the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan, I reflect on our nation's remarkable journey and the growing partnership between Pakistan and the Sultanate of Oman. This is a moment of pride, gratitude, and renewed commitment – not only to my country but also to the vibrant Pakistani community living here in Oman. Over the past months, our bilateral relations have grown stronger than ever. We have seen two ministerial visits from Pakistan – our Commerce Minister in March and our Interior Minister in May. We have also welcomed the Chief of Air Staff, the President of the National Defence University, and naval ships to Oman. These exchanges, alongside upcoming high-level visits, signal a bright trajectory for our cooperation. I am confident that in the coming months and years, our trade, connectivity, and investment ties will continue to grow from strength to strength. This is at the heart of my diplomatic agenda. Independence Day holds deep significance for every Pakistani. Our 78-year journey has not been easy. If I were to describe our nation in one word, it would be resilience. We have faced economic challenges, geopolitical tensions, and natural disasters, yet we have always stood tall among the community of nations. Today, I am pleased to say that Pakistan's economy is stabilising and returning to a growth path. In recent months, the Omani government has agreed to open visas for 11 professional categories from Pakistan – including doctors, teachers, nurses, and paramedics. This is a positive step, and I am working towards securing opportunities for businesspeople, as well as semi-skilled and unskilled workers, in the near future. My foremost duty as Ambassador is to serve and protect the welfare of Pakistanis in Oman. For this reason, I hold an open 'kachahari' in my office every Wednesday for community members to share their concerns. We also host an 'e-kachahari' twice a month on Facebook, making it easier for those in remote areas to connect. Understanding that many workers cannot visit us during the week, the embassy opens its doors on Fridays, and we run mobile consular camps across the country so that essential services – like passport renewals and document attestations – reach people where they live. In moments of crisis, whether it is a medical emergency, a workplace dispute, or the unfortunate loss of a loved one, the embassy stands ready to provide assistance, including help with repatriation. Where necessary, we also offer financial support after careful assessment of genuine need. Reviving cultural and social engagement is another priority. The pandemic slowed such activities, but we have resumed cultural events and sports tournaments. I am working to revive the Pakistani Social Club with chapters across Oman, so it can serve as a platform for culture, charity, and sports – bringing our community together in a more organised and vibrant way. Our Pakistani community in Oman is a source of immense pride. They are the true ambassadors of our nation, building bridges between our two countries through their hard work, values, and contributions to both economies. Many are entrepreneurs who invest in Pakistan and Oman, further deepening our economic ties. I have empowered my team – including the Deputy Head of Mission, Community Welfare Attaché, and Immigration Counsellor – to address matters directly and efficiently. While we have structured hours for community engagement, our support is available 24/7. As we celebrate this Independence Day, I look ahead with optimism. The bonds between Pakistan and Oman will continue to strengthen, our community will continue to thrive, and together we will work for the progress, dignity, and prosperity of every Pakistani living here. Sayyid Badr, other leaders condemn 'Greater Israel'.plan of Netanyahu
Muscat: Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of, in a joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of 30 Arab and Islamic countries and the secretaries-general of the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), condemned in the strongest terms the statements made by Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel for the creation of so-called 'Greater Israel'. These statements represent a gross disregard and a blatant and dangerous violation of the rules of international law and the foundations of stable international relations, and constitute a direct threat to Arab national security, the sovereignty of states, and regional and international security and peace. They emphasised that while Arab and Islamic countries affirm their respect for international legitimacy and the United Nations Charter, particularly the article prohibiting the use or threat of force, Arab and Islamic countries will adopt all policies and measures to consolidate peace, and realise the interests of all countries and peoples in terms of security, stability, and development of the region. They condemned in the strongest terms the approval given by Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich of the settlement plan in the E1 area, and his statements rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state. This constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and a blatant assault on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent, sovereign state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital. They stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory. They affirmed their absolute rejection and condemnation of this settlement plan and all illegal Israeli measures, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law and Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli settlement activities aimed at changing the demographic composition, character, and legal status of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine. They also emphasised the advisory issued by the International Court of Justice, which emphasised the illegality of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory and the need to end it immediately, eliminate its effects, and provide compensation for its damages. They warned of the danger of Israeli intentions and policies aimed at annexing Palestinian territories, and the Israeli government's continued expansionist settlement approach in the occupied West Bank, including attempts to harm Islamic and Christian holy sites, foremost among them the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, daily incursions into Palestinian cities, villages and camps, the systematic destruction of Palestinian refugee camps and the displacement of Palestinians from their homes, which directly contributes to fuelling cycles of violence and conflict and undermines the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region. They also warned against relying on ideological and racist illusions, which threaten to fuel conflict, making it difficult to control its course or predict its outcomes, and threatening both regional and international security and stability. In a related context, the foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic countries, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation reiterated their rejection and condemnation of the crimes of Israeli aggression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing. They also affirmed the need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, while ensuring unconditional access to humanitarian aid to halt the systematic starvation policy used by Israel as a weapon of genocide. This requires an immediate end to the deadly Israeli blockade of the Strip, the opening of Israeli crossings with the Gaza Strip, and holding Israel, the "occupying power," fully responsible for the consequences of its crimes in the Gaza Strip, including the collapse of the health and relief systems. They reaffirmed their complete and absolute rejection of the displacement of the Palestinian people in any form and under any pretext, and called on the international community to pressure Israel to halt its aggression and fully withdraw from the Gaza Strip, in preparation for the creation of appropriate conditions for the implementation of the Arab-Islamic plan for early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Strip. They emphasised that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory, and the necessity for the State of Palestine to assume governance responsibilities in the Strip, as in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, with Arab and international support, within the framework of the political programme of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and the policy of one system, one law, and one legitimate weapon. In this context, they called on the international community, especially the permanent members of the Security Council, particularly the United States of America, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities and take immediate action to compel Israel to halt its ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip and its dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank. They also called on Israel to provide international protection to the Palestinian people and enable them to realise their legitimate rights, foremost among which is their right to establish an independent, sovereign state on their national soil, and to hold accountable those who commit crimes and violations against the Palestinian people.

US State Secy Rubio extends greetings on India's 79th Independence Day; says united by shared vision for secure Indo-Pacific
Washington DC: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed the strength of the India-US relationship and their shared commitment to a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region. While extending his warm wishes to the people of India on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, the US Secretary of State, in a statement, highlighted the growing strategic partnership between the world's oldest and largest democracies. He described the relationship between India and the US as "consequential and far-reaching," built on shared democratic values, mutual respect, and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. "On behalf of the United States, I extend our congratulations and warm wishes to the people of India as they celebrate their Independence Day on August 15," Rubio said in a statement released by the US Department of State on Thursday (local time). "The historic relationship between the world's largest democracy and the world's oldest democracy is consequential and far-reaching. Our two countries are united by our shared vision for a more peaceful, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific region. Our partnership spans industries, promotes innovation, pushes the boundaries of critical and emerging technologies, and extends into space. Working together, the United States and India will rise to the modern challenges of today and ensure a brighter future for both our countries," the statement added. Meanwhile, on Friday, the US Embassy in India extended its greeting to mark the 79th Independence Day of India, highlighting the shared values and celebrations of the occasion. "Happy Independence Day, India! The United States joins India in celebrating this important occasion, honouring our shared achievements in advancing global peace and prosperity. We look forward to strengthening the #USIndia partnership in the years ahead," The US Embassy in India stated in a post on X.
