POLICE are hunting for a man who attempted to abduct a child before fleeing towards a McDonald's restaurant.
The four-year-old was walking with a woman when they were approached by the man in Longbridge, West Midlands, at around 11.30am yesterday morning, West Midlands Police said.
He attempted to grab the child's arm but was stopped by the woman, before he then fled towards a nearby McDonald's.
The child was uninjured in the attempted abduction and is now being supported by officers.
Cops are working with their family to help find the man, as officers also scour CCTV footage and speak to people in the area.
Insp Matt Shaw from Birmingham Police, said: 'We understand how distressing the incident will be to the community but rest assured we are taking this incredibly serious.
'We are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity at the time to speak to us if you haven't already.
"We'd ask everyone in the area to support us by coming forward with any information they may have and to check door-bell cameras or dashcams in their cars, for any footage which may assist our enquiries.
'We have stepped up our patrols in the area. If you see officers out and about and have any concerns please speak to us.'

The incident occurred at the Skegness holiday park last month while Sophie, 38, was with her two children. Sophie alleges that the pushchair was pinched from the trolley area outside the swimming pool. Struggling to return to their flat with her 10 year old daughter and four year old son, Sophie reached out to Butlin's for assistance but claims she was advised to rent one for the remainder of their stay at a cost of £21. To add insult to injury, three days later, her pram was discovered with a post-it note attached stating: "Loaned for 5 min, sorry + thank you." The single mother shared her ordeal with Manchester Evening News, saying: "It was more the inconvenience of it. I'm disabled, so is my daughter. We came out of swimming carrying a heavy bag of wet clothes and had to phone Butlin's for someone to come and help me because I only made it half way back to the apartment. "My daughter, was overly distressed by the situation. We had to hire another one. They wouldn't even look at the CCTV." Sophie, from Derbyshire, suggested to the company that a ticket system should be implemented for collecting prams to prevent future thefts, but claims they "aren't interested", reported the Mirror. "Three days after it went it was thrown over the swimming pool fence into the external pram park with a note saying it had been borrowed for five minutes," she recounted. "A friend of mine found it and when we went to pick it up. We heard on the walkie talkies that another pram had just gone, it happens all the time." The mum expressed her discomfort upon retrieving the stroller, saying she "wasn't even that happy to have it back" after it had been in someone else's possession. "I felt utterly violated," she explained. "My little boy's pram had been in someone else's apartment and they had been using it. I felt so scummy using it." Sophie, who visited the holiday park in mid-May, took to a Butlin's Skegness Resort Facebook community page to expose the theft, which led to an uproar among parents who were appalled by the audacity of taking another's pram. One parent decried the lack of security, stating, "Scum, it's about time Butlin's had CCTV or even security in buggy areas," while another was baffled by the act: "How on earth can someone actually think that's ok to do that,". Another parent scrutinised the thief's motives, commenting, "The question is whoever has borrowed it, why have they gone away without a pram if they need one. Very entitled behaviour and I'd be fuming." The Mirror has sought Butlins' response to the incident.

The post, which was shared in local Facebook groups, including in Pembrokeshire and Cardiff, claimed a 'female police officer' named 'Thelma Jakes' had gone missing. It claimed that the authorities had appealed for help in locating her. But Dyfed-Powys Police has now confirmed to WalesOnline that the post is misinformation which the force believes is a scam. When it was posted on a Cardiff Facebook group, the post claimed that the officer was missing in Cardiff, whereas, when it was posted on a Pembrokeshire Facebook group, it claimed that the officer was missing in that area. The post also tries to evoke an emotional response from those reading it by claiming that the officer's vehicle was discovered with her daughter inside while she remains unaccounted for. It concludes by asking people to share the post saying: "The community's help is urgently required. Sharing this information takes only 2 seconds." Police have warned against this, as it could contribute to misinformation. Dyfed-Powys Police has also said that there are no official reports from any other police force relating to the officer mentioned in the fake post. South Wales Police has also confirmed that there is no missing police officer in Cardiff. In statement on its Facebook pages for Pembrokeshire and surrounding areas, Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We have been made aware of social media posts relating to an alleged missing police officer in the Pembrokeshire area. "We can confirm that we have received no official report from any other police force relating to this individual and believe the post to be a scam.
