Birmingham police arrest suspect in connection to 2021 homicide following vehicle pursuit

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Members of the Birmingham Police Department's Special Operations Bureau's Specialized Teams have apprehended a suspect wanted for failing to appear on a murder warrant connected to the 2021 murder of Eric Henderson. According to the BPD, the Specialized Teams officers observed Elantra Bass, 26, of Birmingham while working on a scheduled graduation detail. The officers attempted to make a traffic stop at the intersection of Bessemer Road and Avenue W., but Bass fled in his vehicle, resulting in a brief vehicle pursuit. Birmingham police arrest 17-year-old suspect in connection to February homicide investigation Bass entered Interstate 65 North, and he exited his vehicle near 16th Street, fleeing on foot across the interstate. Officers successfully apprehended him in the 1300 block of 6th Street North. Bass will be booked into the Jefferson County Jail on his outstanding murder warrant. He has no bond. According to the Birmingham Police Department, a person was shot in a vehicle at around 1:50 p.m. in the 200 block of 12th Street W. Injuries are unknown at this time. SNATCH PROBE Four-year-old child 'grabbed' by man as cops probe 'attempted abduction' before he fled to McDonald's POLICE are hunting for a man who attempted to abduct a child before fleeing towards a McDonald's restaurant. The four-year-old was walking with a woman when they were approached by the man in Longbridge, West Midlands, at around 11.30am yesterday morning, West Midlands Police said. He attempted to grab the child's arm but was stopped by the woman, before he then fled towards a nearby McDonald's. The child was uninjured in the attempted abduction and is now being supported by officers. Cops are working with their family to help find the man, as officers also scour CCTV footage and speak to people in the area. Insp Matt Shaw from Birmingham Police, said: 'We understand how distressing the incident will be to the community but rest assured we are taking this incredibly serious. 'We are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity at the time to speak to us if you haven't already. "We'd ask everyone in the area to support us by coming forward with any information they may have and to check door-bell cameras or dashcams in their cars, for any footage which may assist our enquiries. 'We have stepped up our patrols in the area. If you see officers out and about and have any concerns please speak to us.' More to follow...
