Love Island boss reveals contestants could be faced with their EXES in the villa as show brings dramatic twists for its sexiest season yet

Daily Mail4 days ago

A Love Island producer has revealed that this year's contestants could come face to face with their ex-partners in the villa.
The ITV2 dating show returns on June 9 and announced the full line-up joining the upcoming series this week, for the usual mix of love triangles, bedroom trysts and messy breakups.
Among this year's crop of hopefuls are a Declan Rice body double, a firebreather and a Maura Higgins lookalike, with the show promising to have 'more twists and turns than ever before' in honour of their 10-year anniversary
And the show's Creative Director has now revealed one of the surprises in store for this batch of Islanders, as he teased they could be confronted with some of their former flames as bombshells.
Speaking to The Sun, ITV's Mike Spencer-Hayter said: 'Do you know what I always say, the cast get released and then the ex's come forward. And that's how you get the bombshells.
From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop.
'They will have to go through the process, but we have already a pool of really really good bombshells lined up. There's some people in that mix that are really under the radar as well.
'The casting team have been working for quite a while now. Gone to lots of different events and been out and about looking for people and I think they've done a brilliant job. We always have those killer bombshells to come in.'
It comes after Mike revealed to the Mail that the first week of the new season will see 'something big' as they 'tear up the rule book' to liven up the hit show.
Last year the show had a shock entry when TOWIE favourite Joey Essex, 34, entered the villa, to very mixed results from fans.
Asked if they will be getting another former reality tv star or celebrity in as a contestant this year, Mike said something else will be a surprise.
'No former Love Islanders are coming in this year,' he said. Something big is coming in week one though. Not another reality star like Joey Essex.'
'We've got a big week one planned. It's not a celebrity, but totally new. It's even different this year the way islanders will couple up.
'You can't rest on people loving the show, we have to keep it exciting. Tear up the rule book a bit.'
Mike also revealed that bosses are hoping for potential throuples in the villa this year as install new furniture to help encourage bonking and create drama.
One of the new additions includes a trampoline bed that sits across the swimming pool, and the Love Island exec has insisted it has been tested for up to four people.
The secret hideaway - which includes a bed and hot tub - is now open 24 hours a day for those that aren't coupled up.
He told the Mail: 'There's a new trampoline bed, that would be good for throuples. It can take the weight of four, we've checked. It's all about keeping the show fresh and exciting. And that's what we've got.'
The TV executive also revealed ITV will broadcast intimate activity if and when it happens, after five years of them keeping the Islanders' romps off the air.
The early seasons of the show famously showed the contestants getting up to all sorts of naughty things in the villa, with stars seen getting close under the covers and even getting X-rated in the cupboard.
Mike explained that they've had to 'tear up the rule book' this year, after viewing figures have dwindled over the years, since the reality show became tamer.
He said: 'The hideaway is open for business for 24 hours all the time, as long as they don't come with their partner. We told the islanders last year they could but they kept forgetting they could come in here.
'We've seen the same things time and time again how and it's boring. We've got to move on. It felt static, and the show needs to feel fresh.
'People that come in, all do the same thing. Because they've all watched it time and time again. It became too formatted.
'We've got to push forward. All the twist and turns, we're going to give it all we've got to make it an exciting series.'
ITV bosses have also attempted to give the new villa and series a glam-up to avoid the show being boring.
In a bid to create further drama they have also shortened the walls of the iconic terrace, which is often used as a hideaway for bombshells looking to kiss another contestant in more private surroundings.
But Mike confirmed the days of hiding away from prying eyes is all over.
'The terrace walls are shorter and more see through now too. So you can see more up there. We just felt like it was too covered up. Extra gossip.'
Love Island has often come under fire for only casting ultra-thin singles who have the same body shapes 'year after year'.
And even though the contestants of the show are shacked up with each other for up to eight weeks, it's often been criticised for not showing people eating meals and that the absence might encourage eating disorders and unrealistic beauty standards.
Despite having their meals cooked for them by private chefs, ITV has previously confirmed the reason for not showing them eating is because mealtimes are considered downtime for the islanders and are not filmed due to technical reasons, like the sounds of eating with microphones.
But it can now be revealed that contestants this year will be seen eating in the villa for the first time.
'In this day and age, we need to be showing it,' said the Love Island boss. 'Viewers always ask us where and when the islanders eat lunch and dinner. Well this year you'll see it on camera now.'
Mike also said the reason comes as conversations are often heard amongst the islanders that make for good TV.
'There are chats that do happen whilst they eat,' he said. 'It might feature, it might not when it comes to the final edit, but there is a lot of whispering and there always has been.
'Sometimes it will affect how they might know information, because the viewer hasn't seen it. Now they will see it.'

David Beckham's knighthood shows the unique - and utterly absurd - power of the British class system

When the unauthorised, warts-and-all biography of the Beckhams, The House of Beckham, came out last year, it was in the distinctive style of its author, Tom Bower, which is to say, incredibly mean. But it was quite short of warts, to be honest: of course, there were youthful indiscretions – David Beckham's Madrid years featured an alleged affair and an insufficient tip in a restaurant, and Posh once made a TV show that people didn't like. But the Beckhams of today were guilty of nothing greater than that they wanted a knighthood, and had done for a really long time. That was why, according to Bower, David volunteered to help in the Philippines after the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan, and why Victoria gave all her castoffs to the Chelsea Red Cross which raised some eyebrows at the time, just because the last imaginable thing you would need after being hit by a typhoon would be 78 pairs of cerise stilettos. That was why David had reportedly 'unleashed his foul-mouthed tirade' (to use the proper tabloid phrase) by email once his honour was rejected, calling the honours committee a 'bunch of cunts' and lambasting Katherine Jenkins because she got an OBE 'for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops plus taking coke. F—ing joke.' Becks had a point. In the 2010s – if the highest honour is reserved for those who are nationally significant, inspirational, and have demonstrated commitment at the highest level - it was hard to think of anyone who did more football, in a more committed fashion and noticeable way, than he. If there's a tacit clause about charitable works, he had definitely done some of that, and if he hadn't done enough, they should have just produced some time sheets and minimum spend numbers, and he could have done more. If the real block on the honour was that Posh and Becks had thrones made of gold at their wedding in 1999, which apparently annoyed Prince Philip so much that he declined to sit on a throne at the subsequent Jubilee, well, it was surely time that everyone with a throne of any kind just got over themselves. As is almost always the case with anything connected to the British aristocracy, it was impossible to pick a side. The honours committee has a conception of seemly public behaviour, and generally speaking, they go the opposite way to any normal member of the British public, who don't mind 'foul-mouthed tirades' but do mind sycophancy and incompetence, and consequently would much prefer to see Danny Dyer knighted than almost any name on the honours list of the past five departing prime ministers. Yet at the same time, it is tragic to want an honour in the first place, given that it pretends access to the nobility yet is completely ersatz; a fake VIP room where the champagne is fizzy apple juice and the really important people are in a different building. The culture of class deference is sustained on ideas that cannot be said out loud or even directly beheld, because they are too stupid: such as, 'Some people are born better than others, because they have a lineage going back to William the Conqueror'; such as, 'Great wealth connotes some endogenous personal merit, but only if you came by it the right way, several centuries ago and with violence'. By definition, you can't enter that system late, and in the very act of trying, you reveal how little you understand it. Which is fine, because to understand it and still want it would make you ridiculous, yet to want it uncomprehendingly still looks pretty foolish. As the Beckhams finally get what they've always wanted, apparently, what does it say about the institutions that put so much energy into blocking them? Have they finally run out of the energy it takes to make their minute distinctions? Or have they decided that it somehow works for the preservation of the system, to dignify a person only after they have waited an undignified amount of time? This might be the final, unique power of the British class system – the ability to make everyone who goes anywhere near it, in any capacity, look absurd, and at the same time, everyone who objects to it, at whatever volume, sound wholemeal and worthy. It's the last act of national unification, in which we all look as bad as one another. Zoe Williams is a Guardian columnist

Secret pain plaguing Molly-Mae Hague & Tommy Fury's reunion – amid bitter tensions with ‘fuming' Paris & Tyson Fury

MOLLY-MAE Hague and Tommy Fury are basking in happiness since agreeing to give their relationship another go - but the same can't be said for their families. Instead, it is claimed that a bitter row is brewing between the Furys and the Hagues, as they reportedly clash over the Love Island couple's decision to reunite. 14 14 14 The reconciliation has infuriated Molly 's older sister, Zoe, who has been vocal about her fears for Molly's future and how she believes Tommy 's issues with alcohol could cause problems again. And that in turn has allegedly rubbed Tommy's family, including boxer brother Tyson and his wife Paris, up the wrong way. 'The Fury family aren't impressed that Zoe has been so outspoken about Tommy,' a source claimed. 'They're a fiercely loyal bunch and seeing Zoe's comments broadcast to millions of people via Amazon absolutely got their hackles up. 'To them Tommy is a stand up guy, a good, hard working father. His drinking issues shouldn't be used as a stick to beat him.' Molly-Mae and Tommy confirmed they'd got back together during a family trip to Dubai last month with their two-year-old daughter, Bambi. It came nine months on from their shock split in August, which they blamed on Tommy's boozing. In January he said, 'We broke up because I had a problem with alcohol and I couldn't be the partner that I wanted to be any more. "It kills me to say it, but I couldn't. I loved a pint of beer, loved to drink.' Following speculation they'd got back together after they were spotted smooching on New Year's Eve, Molly and Tommy, both 26, didn't address the rumours until Molly's docuseries, Behind It All aired. It was then revealed the pair were working on their relationship. On the series Zoe and Molly can be seen clashing, with Zoe telling viewers, 'I do worry for her and my relationship with her if they did get back together.' She added, 'I think she potentially needs to look into the future and think about what's best for her and Bambi. She's got a long, rocky road ahead, unfortunately.' In a separate scene Zoe appeared to soften her stance, but ultimately seemed down on the future of the relationship. 'I've literally been there, through everything,' she tells Molly while making dinner. 'Through the upset calls in the middle of the night because he's out and you don't hear from him. 14 14 14 'I mean, he's proven me wrong so far, to be fair, but I do think at some point that it's gonna happen again. If the drink hasn't gone away forever, the problems could potentially arise again.' In February pals told The Sun that the Hague family, including Molly's dad Stephen and mum Debbie Gordon, were 'horrified' that Tommy was back on the scene. 'Molly-Mae's closest friends and members of her family think this is a terrible idea and that it is all going to end in tears again,' the source said. 'Zoe is fiercely protective and will never forget what Tommy put Molly through, let alone forgive him.' Now, a separate insider claims the drama is causing grief for the Furys, especially Tyson, 36, and Paris, 35. 'The Fury brothers are extremely loyal to one another and Tyson isn't happy by how it's all playing out so publicly,' a source said. 'He hates that Zoe painted Tommy in such a bad light. He's protective over Tommy and very supportive of him getting back together with Molly. 'Detrimental' "He's fuming that Zoe tainted what should be a happy, positive reconciliation. And in turn it's putting Molly in an awkward position.' Likewise, Paris, who was said to be gutted when Tommy and Molly initially split, is believed to be throwing her full support behind the reunion. The source continued, 'Paris wants nothing but the best for Tommy, Molly and Bambi. "She's incredibly traditional in that she believes in the family unit and is delighted they're trying to make it work. "She can't understand why Molly's sister might try to hinder that. "In Paris' mind, this is the best thing that could possibly happen to Molly. "She's been the supportive sister figure that Molly wishes Zoe could be.' And indeed Molly is adamant she'll do anything to make it work with her Love Island beau, admitting she's desperate to keep her family together. 'I love Tommy so much and I love our family so much that I'm willing to ride the wave and that's not something that everyone wants to do,' she said publicly. 'It's something I'm willing to do because I want my family.' It appears fans are divided, with backlash aimed at both Molly and Zoe. 14 14 14 Some agreed with Tyson, saying 'Zoe is too much,' and 'the sister likes the limelight with Tommy's not around.' While others backed Zoe, saying, 'I love how Zoe doesn't sugarcoat anything.' The tension between the families has allegedly been brewing for a while. The Furys were no doubt fuming when Molly's dad Stephen unfollowed Tommy after the split and last week refused to acknowledge him in a birthday tribute to his daughter. "Meanwhile, Molly's mum called Tommy's drinking 'detrimental and destructive.' In a clear sign all was not well, Tyson reportedly refused to acknowledge Molly and Zoe when they bumped into him and Paris at a shopping centre in Manchester in December. While Paris embraced Molly warmly, Tyson remained distant. And with the Hagues still wary over the reunion, it looks like Tyson will be keeping that stance for a while yet. Representatives for the Hague and Fury family have been contacted for comment. 14 Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury - Reunion Clues MOLLY-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury are on holiday in Dubai after splitting in August. Yet have they dropped clues about their reunion before? Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury appear to have confirmed their romance is back on with a joint holiday to Dubai. Yet in January, the rumour mill had already started turning on their reunion after pics of Molly-Mae's NYE snog with the boxer resurfaced In February, Tommy, 25, then gushed how "life has been looking up" after the pair's romantic getaway for Valentine's Day. The Sun exclusively revealed how the pair were spotted "canoodling" on their cute getaway. During the same month, Tommy was also spotted leaving Molly-Mae's Molly Maison home in his G Wagon in the early hours. Fans then spotted clues the pair had spent another romantic weekend together earlier this spring. Molly-Mae was also heard discussing having a second baby on her vlog, in yet another potential sign they are giving their romance another go.

Benidorm's Crissy Rock sets record straight on claim she's 'living like a nomad'

Benidorm star Crissy Rock has set the record straight on reports that she is 'living like a nomad' and couch-surfing with friends. The Liverpudlian, 66, is best known as Janey Yorke from the ITV sitcom, but is now touring the country talking about her transition from acting to stand-up in the show An Evening with Crissy Rock: From Bedlam to Benidorm. Crissy made headlines over the weekend that she is 'living from couch to couch' and that her wardrobe is the boot of her car – which she has told the Metro she said in jest during an interview. Crissy has now clarified that she does have a permanent home in Norfolk, which she shares with her husband Julian Buck, who she married the same year Benidorm ended in 2018. Crissy went on to explain that the nomadic lifestyle she referred to in an interview with The Express was only temporary while she's on tour, driving herself from city to city to perform her one-woman show, which she said is 'part and parcel' of being a jobbing comedian. The performer explained that while at first she found the reaction funny, she then realised that it 'could have an impact on her tour' if people make the wrong assumption about her living situation. 'I did say that my boot of my car is like a wardrobe, because when you're on tour, you have to take suitcases with you. I am like a nomad because I'm on tour. I'm up and down the country, all over the place. 'That's what you do when you're on tour, you live in the suitcase. We don't live in a cardboard box.' She continued: 'You have to go where the work is, so it's not like you just sit there and go, 'Oh, I can't be bothered going there'.' Crissy has her next show on Thursday, in which she talks about her life since Benidorm ended. The sitcom ran for 10 seasons and 74 episodes before its finale in 2018. Benidorm focused on the Solana Resort, following various holidaymakers as they decamped to the Spanish city, and has since found a second life on Netflix. Benidorm boss Derren Litten confirmed earlier this year that he is in talks with ITV over a possible show reboot, which Crissy said would be 'fabulous' if it went ahead. 'That would be wonderful for the people who watch it as well,' she said. 'It'd be wonderful if they asked me to come back into it. Maybe me and Sherrie (Hewson, who played Joyce Temple-Savage on the sitcom) could lock horns and become rival manageresses of different parts of the venue.' More Trending Crissy went on to acknowledge that certain elements of the show would have to change, after it featured outdated stereotypes and crude jokes. 'You couldn't say certain things that they said years ago,' said Crissy. 'I'm not the writer, so I wouldn't know how they would go about it. 'People spoke like that years ago, but you wouldn't do it now.' View More » Benidorm is available to stream on Netflix and ITVX. Got a story?
