Benidorm's Crissy Rock sets record straight on claim she's 'living like a nomad'
The Liverpudlian, 66, is best known as Janey Yorke from the ITV sitcom, but is now touring the country talking about her transition from acting to stand-up in the show An Evening with Crissy Rock: From Bedlam to Benidorm.
Crissy made headlines over the weekend that she is 'living from couch to couch' and that her wardrobe is the boot of her car – which she has told the Metro she said in jest during an interview.
Crissy has now clarified that she does have a permanent home in Norfolk, which she shares with her husband Julian Buck, who she married the same year Benidorm ended in 2018.
Crissy went on to explain that the nomadic lifestyle she referred to in an interview with The Express was only temporary while she's on tour, driving herself from city to city to perform her one-woman show, which she said is 'part and parcel' of being a jobbing comedian.
The performer explained that while at first she found the reaction funny, she then realised that it 'could have an impact on her tour' if people make the wrong assumption about her living situation.
'I did say that my boot of my car is like a wardrobe, because when you're on tour, you have to take suitcases with you. I am like a nomad because I'm on tour. I'm up and down the country, all over the place.
'That's what you do when you're on tour, you live in the suitcase. We don't live in a cardboard box.'
She continued: 'You have to go where the work is, so it's not like you just sit there and go, 'Oh, I can't be bothered going there'.'
Crissy has her next show on Thursday, in which she talks about her life since Benidorm ended.
The sitcom ran for 10 seasons and 74 episodes before its finale in 2018. Benidorm focused on the Solana Resort, following various holidaymakers as they decamped to the Spanish city, and has since found a second life on Netflix.
Benidorm boss Derren Litten confirmed earlier this year that he is in talks with ITV over a possible show reboot, which Crissy said would be 'fabulous' if it went ahead.
'That would be wonderful for the people who watch it as well,' she said. 'It'd be wonderful if they asked me to come back into it. Maybe me and Sherrie (Hewson, who played Joyce Temple-Savage on the sitcom) could lock horns and become rival manageresses of different parts of the venue.' More Trending
Crissy went on to acknowledge that certain elements of the show would have to change, after it featured outdated stereotypes and crude jokes.
'You couldn't say certain things that they said years ago,' said Crissy. 'I'm not the writer, so I wouldn't know how they would go about it.
'People spoke like that years ago, but you wouldn't do it now.'

They praised her 'perfect impersonation' of an influential MAGA figure in the replies, with many users finding major parallels between her and real-life right-wing figures over their allegedly slippery grasp of the truth. Kudrow's spokeswoman, the fictional Jeanetta Grace Susan, was seen in a clip seemingly meant to take place in Washington, DC, as she defended Trump against his multiple impeachments. 'The whole impeachment thing was baseless, OK,' Kudrow says in character. Beyonce is now halfway to earning EGOT status after surprise award win
Beyonce is now halfway to coveted EGOT status after earning a milestone win this week. Over the course of her nearly 30-year career, the superstar, 43, has won a historic 35 Grammy Awards — the most ever for a recording artist or group. And on Tuesday, it was revealed that Beyonce has finally earned her first-ever Emmy Award after 12 nominations. The mother-of-three and the team behind Netflix 's Beyonce Bowl special, which aired in December 2024, won in the Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming category, according to E! Online. Also sharing in the Emmy glory is Beyonce Bowl costume designer, Shiona Turini, as well as the show's costume supervisor, Chelsea Staebell, head of workroom, Timothy White, and assistant costume designers, Erica Rice and Molly Peters. The honor will be awarded to Beyonce and her team during the 2025 Creative Arts Emmys, which will occur one week prior to the Primetime Emmy Awards, on Sunday, September 7 in Los Angeles.
