Textile Manufacturing Facility: Nitish Kumar inaugurates ₹37 crore bag manufacturing unit in Muzaffarpur, ET Manufacturing
Patna CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday inaugurated a new industrial unit ( Cosmas Lifestyle Pvt. Ltd. ) for manufacturing high-quality bags in Bela Industrial Area of Muzaffarpur set up under Bihar Textiles and Leather Policy 2022. Spread over 5 acres of land, the plant has been set up by investing ₹37 crore.The CM saw the bag manufacturing work being done there and talked to the people working in the unit, to know about the production. The workers told Nitish about the bag manufacturing work, cutting, stitching etc.The CM praised and encouraged them. "We are encouraging investors to set up industrial units in the state. Bihar Industrial Investment Promotion Policy has been made to provide facilities to the investors. With the establishment of such an industrial unit, the people around will get employment opportunities and financial help," he said.This industrial unit manufactures high-quality, low-cost bags and related accessories. About 1200 people are getting employment opportunities there and 40 per cent of them are women.Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha , tourism minister Raju Kumar Singh, panchayati raj minister Kedar Prasad Gupta and others were present on the occasion.

Bihar Cabinet approves two five-star hotels; 16 other decisions given approval
The Bihar cabinet on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) approved the construction of two five star hotels at Rajgir in the Nalanda district and a five star resort in Vaishali district in PPP mode to provide better and quality accommodation to the tourists visiting these places. The decision was taken during the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in which a total of 16 decisions were approved. As per the tourism department's proposal, two five-star hotels will be constructed on 10 acres of land near Mela Maidan in Rajgir in Nalanda district while a five-star resort will be developed on 10 acres of land at recently inaugurated Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa, Cabinet Secretariat Department's Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) S. Siddharth said in a post Cabinet briefing. The two hotels and a resort will be constructed and operated in accordance with the provisions of Infrastructure Development Enabling (Amendment) Act, 2023, he said and added that the land will be provided on 'lease' to the private developer which will carry out the construction of hotels on the said land. Stating that a huge number of tourists visit several tourist places in Rajgir and Vaishali, Mr. Siddharth said that the construction of five-star hotels and a resort will provide better amenities and quality accommodation to the tourist visiting the two aforementioned places. The decision to provide modern facilities and quality accommodation at tourist sites apart from the State capital will not only give a boost to the tourism sector of the State but will also spur economic and social activities leading to creation of both employment and trade opportunities, a Cabinet press note said. In another important decision, the Cabinet gave its nod to the education department's proposal to double the amount of 'State Teacher Award' from ₹15,000 to ₹30,000. The award is given by the State government to teachers of primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary government schools for developing a quality education system and also to motivate them for their good work. Earlier, the number of recipients of the award used to be two-three but the last year, 42 teachers were given the State teacher award, Mr. Siddharth said while making it clear that the number of recipients could be more depending on the availability of able teachers as there is no cap with regard to how many teachers can be given this award. The Cabinet also decided to reduce the fee to ₹100 for candidates appearing for Preliminary Test (PT) whereas no examination fee will be charged for mains. Along with it the candidates clearing PT will not be charged any fee for the mains examination. Bihar CM in his independence day speech announced about the fee reduction and fee waiver for PT and Mains exams held by various commissions to fill the different posts of government jobs. The Cabinet also sanctioned ₹363.99 crore for the construction of a 7.40 KM four lane road including an ROB to connect Rajgir Sports Complex-cum-Rajgir International Cricket Stadium. It also sanctioned ₹539.19 crore for construction of 19.43 km long Salepur-Narsanda-Telmar-Karauta road (upto 224 km of NH-30) which will be converted into a four-lane road instead of two-lane road. It also decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of late Upendra Nath Verma, educationist, social reformer, social worker, as 'state function' every year on August 23 at a place where his statue has been installed on north west corner of Digghi talab in Gayaji town. The Cabinet also approved the list of holidays for the calendar year of 2026 which will be applicable in all the government offices and all the revenue magistrate's courts. There will be 24 holidays in 2026 declared under The Negotiable Instruments Act 1881 in Bihar. Besides, there will be one day holiday on April 1, 2026 for the annual bank closing holiday. There will be 22 holidays in 2026 as per the list of optional/restricted holidays.

Nitish gives job letters to 5,353 school recruits
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Tuesday handed over appointment letters to 5,353 clerks and fourth-grade employees recruited on compassionate grounds for govt schools across the state. Of these, 4,835 were clerks and 518 fourth-grade staff. In Patna district alone, 212 clerks and 28 fourth-grade employees will take up their posts. At a function held in the Samvad auditorium of the CM Secretariat, Nitish symbolically presented appointment letters to Mani Kumari, Amit Gaurav, Divya Raj, Kiran Kumari Gupta and Tooba Ashraf. Meanwhile, the CM also inaugurated two new facilities at the L N Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change on Tuesday – a Management Development Centre (MDC) and a girls' hostel, each built at a cost of Rs 4.99 crore. After the inauguration, Nitish inspected both wings of the institute and reviewed the arrangements and facilities. The MDC has been designed with training in mind and is equipped with 26 rooms, 52 lodging rooms, a training hall, a dining hall and a residential training facility. The girls' hostel includes 40 rooms, eight halls and accommodation for 168 students. Founded in 1973, the L N Mishra Institute currently offers 10 courses in management and computer studies with around 1,600 students enrolled, including a large number of women. Bihar economy expected to grow to $1.1 trillion by 2046-47: CII report
Bihar's economy is likely to grow to $1.1 trillion by 2046-47 considering the huge underlying potential of the state, according to a report released on Tuesday. In the immediate term, the state's economy is estimated to grow more than double at $219 billion by 2030-31, in an optimistic scenario, industry body CII said in its report. "CII estimates Bihar's economy to more than double by 2030-31 and reach $219 billion levels (the optimistic scenario). Over a longer horizon, the economy is expected to reach the size of $1.1 trillion by 2046-47," said the report titled "Bihar: A $1-trillion Economy," released at the 4th CII East India Summit here. According to the report, Bihar is emerging as a unique opportunity for investors buoyed by rapid economic transformation, demographic advantage, and policy-driven dynamism. The state is one of the fastest-growing states in the country. In 2023-24, Bihar recorded a GSDP of Rs 8.54 lakh crore, growing at 14.4 per cent at current prices, surpassing India's growth rate of 12 per cent for the corresponding year, it said. This surge is the result of sustained structural improvements underpinned by policy reforms, expanding infrastructure and a deliberate pivot towards industrial growth. Traditionally known for its rich agricultural base, Bihar is now strategically shifting its focus towards agro-based industries, IT and IT-enabled services (ITES), textiles and leather sectors, manufacturing and healthcare among others, the report stated. In 2016, the state launched the Bihar Industrial Investment Promotion Policy for promoting industrial development in the region. The policy was further amended in 2020 and extended till 2025 to make it more investor-friendly, CII said in the report. The policy offers a wide range of incentives, including capital subsidies, power and rental rebates employment generation and skill training grants, SGST reimbursements and land subsidies. Besides, the state government has also been very proactive in terms of notifying policies for other emerging industries such as biofuel, logistics, startups, IT, tourism and exports among others, as per the report. In addition, the single-window system, digital land records, and pro-business reforms are enhancing the ease of doing business, while the Startup Bihar initiative is nurturing grassroots innovation, CII said in its report. Stating that Bihar's economy has several comparative advantages that underpin the target of $1 trillion by 2047, the report said, adding that the state is blessed with abundant natural resources, including fertile land, minerals, and water. These resources offer immense potential for various industries, such as agriculture, food processing, and manufacturing, it said. Moreover, the majority of the state remains a rural economy with a 12 per cent urbanisation compared to 35 per cent at the all-India level. This presents a huge economic opportunity for the state to plug in, it said, adding that this also would mean a growing consumer market. Also with nearly 58 per cent of the state's 12.7 crore residents under the age of 25, it has the youngest population among Indian states. This creates a vast, trainable, and cost-elective workforce -- critical for industries, the report added.
