KUWAIT: Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Minors Affairs (PAMA) Dalal Al-Nouri affirmed the authority's commitment to renewing and modernizing recreational, cultural, and social programs for minors under its care, in line with their evolving interests and aspirations. The goal, she said, is to help build an informed and forward-looking generation capable of contributing positively to the future. Al-Nouri's remarks came on Wednesday during the launch of the 'Seen Jim' summer entertainment competition, organized by PAMA for minors aged 14 to under 21.
She noted that the competition is designed to create an interactive and engaging environment through a mix of mental and physical activities, while also fostering cultural awareness and healthy competition. The program includes a variety of games and entertainment segments overseen by a team of experienced administrative supervisors. The two-day event hosts approximately 80 participants per day, who are divided into 16 teams to compete in general knowledge challenges. Al-Nouri added that the competition will conclude with an awards ceremony, during which the winning team will be recognized and presented with valuable prizes.— KUNA

Kuwait Club to host 40th Arab Clubs Handball Championship in September

KUWAIT CITY, July 13: The Arab Handball Federation announced on Saturday that Kuwait Club will host the 40th edition of the Arab Clubs Championship, scheduled to take place from September 12 to 22. The announcement was made via the federation's official account on the X platform. The decision comes after Kuwait Club previously withdrew from the competition due to the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex being allocated for the Asian Futsal Championship. This year's tournament is expected to see the participation of three Kuwaiti clubs: Kuwait Club, Kazma, and Burgan. Kuwait Club has a strong recent history in the tournament, having hosted and won the 39th edition in September 2024 by defeating Al-Salmiya in the final. The club also won the 38th edition, overcoming Egypt's Zamalek in the final held at Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Sports City in Qatif, Saudi Arabia. Historically, Esperance Sportive de Tunis holds the most titles (7), followed by Al-Ahly of Egypt (5), and Etoile Sportive de Tunis and Mouloudia of Algeria with 3 each. Kuwait Club is among several teams that have won the championship twice, alongside Al-Ahly and Al-Nour (KSA), Club Africain (Tunisia), and Naft Oran (Algeria). Other past champions with one title include Al-Ain (UAE), Tasweeq (Algeria), Sporting and Zamalek (Egypt), Al-Rayyan and Al-Gharafa (Qatar), Al-Ahly (Bahrain), and Sakiet Ezzit (Tunisia).

Al-Salmiya signs Nasser Al-Shatti as head coach for the season

KUWAIT CITY, July 12: Al-Salmiya Club officially announced the signing of coach Nasser Al-Shatti and his brother, Maitham Al-Shatti, to lead the first football team in preparation for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. The agreement was finalized the day before yesterday following months of negotiations that began earlier this year. Al-Shatti had previously led Al-Arabi to an impressive season, finishing as runner-up in the Zain Premier League and the Crown Prince Cup, and reaching the final of the Amir's Cup, which was postponed last June due to regional circumstances. The team also reached the AFC Challenge Cup semifinals. Despite Al-Arabi's desire to renew his contract for a third season, both sides were unable to reach a final agreement. As a result, Al-Salmiya parted ways with Croatian coach Ante Miša, who had been under contract through the end of next season. The club expressed its gratitude to Miša and wished him success in future endeavors. With the appointment of the Al-Shatti brothers, Al-Salmiya aims to return to title contention and secure local championships after a prolonged absence from the podium. In addition to the coaching change, Al-Salmiya has reinforced its squad by signing Abdullah Al-Shamali, who recently ended his stint with Al-Qadsiya. Al-Shamali began his career at Al-Arabi and spent the last two seasons at Al-Qadsiya. Meanwhile, Al-Arabi has announced the appointment of Jordanian coach Ahmed Hayel as assistant coach, joining the technical staff led by Portuguese head coach Marco Cesar Pereira Alves, whose hiring was confirmed last week. Hayel will work alongside Portuguese coach Alonso, who was recently added to the staff, marking his first coaching role outside Jordan. A former Al-Arabi player, Hayel's career was cut short by a head injury nearly a decade ago. He brings a strong coaching résumé, having guided the Jordan U-23 Olympic team to the 2021 West Asian Championship title and qualification for the AFC Asian Cup finals. He also served as assistant coach for Jordan's senior national team and led Al-Faisaly and Al-Hussein Irbid, winning the Jordanian Professional League title last season. Al-Arabi's technical staff also includes: Tunisian Khalil Jebabli as fitness coach (continuing in his role) Portuguese Blessing Lumiono and Ahmed Hayel as assistant coaches Brazilian Artur Guedes as goalkeeper coach Algerian Mahfouz Jenad as a technical analyst
