Manhunt launched after 4 killed in a shooting at a Montana bar
The suspect was last seen in the Stump Town area, which is just west of Anaconda, according to a Facebook post by the Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center.
He was believed to still be armed, the Montana Highway Patrol said in a statement.
The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. on Friday at The Owl Bar, according to the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation, which is leading the investigation. The agency confirmed four people were pronounced dead at the scene and that it was an active investigation.
Authorities have yet to release details about what led to the shooting.
More than a dozen officers from local and state police converged on Stump Town where they appeared to be searching for the suspect in the woods. His home in Anaconda had already been cleared by a SWAT team, according to the Granite County Sheriff's office.
Anaconda is about 75 miles (120 kilometers) southeast of Missoula.
The owner of the Firefly Café in Anaconda said she locked up her business at about 11 a.m. Friday after getting alerted to the shooting by a friend. Two hours later, she was still waiting for an all clear before reopening.
'We are Montana, so guns are not new to us. For our town to be locked down, everybody's pretty rattled,' café owner Barbie Nelson said.
'It's a small town, so we all probably know someone who was there' at the shooting. she added.

Helicopter crash in Ghana kills 8 people including defense and environment ministers
ACCRA, Ghana (AP) — The crash of a military helicopter in Ghana on Wednesday killed all eight people aboard including the West African country's defense and environment ministers and other top officials, the government said. The Ghanian military said the helicopter took off in the morning from the capital, Accra, and was heading northwest into the interior toward the gold-mining area of Obuasi in the Ashanti region when it went off the radar. The wreckage was later found in the Adansi area of Ashanti. The cause of the crash was not immediately known, and the military said an investigation was underway. Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed were killed alongside the vice-chair of the National Democratic Congress ruling party, a top national security adviser, and crew members. Mourners gathered at the Boamah's residence as well as at the party's headquarters, and Ghana's government described the crash as a 'national tragedy.' State media reported that the aircraft was a Z-9 helicopter that is often used for transport and medical evacuation. An online video of the crash site shows debris on fire in a forest as some citizens circle around to help. Wednesday's crash was one of Ghana's worst air disasters in more than a decade. Five soldiers shot at Army base in Georgia, suspect apprehended
ATLANTA – Five soldiers were shot Wednesday in an active shooter incident at Fort Stewart, an Army base in south Georgia, according to Maj. Charlie Egan, a 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson. Egan said the shooter has been apprehended. The injured soldiers were "treated on-site and moved to Winn Army Community Hospital for further treatment," installation officials said in a post to the base's official Facebook page. The post did not specify their status. The shooting occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday in an area of the south Georgia installation associated with the 3rd Infantry Division's 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, a tank unit that returned from a deployment in Europe in the summer of 2024. The entirety of the fort was locked down shortly thereafter, and the shooter was apprehended at 11:35 a.m., according to the post.
