Premier League players will CONTINUE to take the knee before selected games in upcoming season - despite the Lionesses stopping the anti-racism gesture
The decision was made following a meeting involving top-flight club captains this week, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Unlike previous campaigns however, players will only perform the gesture on two selected fixtures during October's Black History Month.
The gesture, which is said to demonstrate clubs' 'commitment to fight racism and all forms of discrimination' was initially introduced in the summer of 2020 following a request from players.
For two full seasons it was performed prior to every Premier League game in England.
The number of games was later reduced, and last season players took the knee in the opening and final match rounds of the season, in addition to fixtures dedicated to the No Room For Racism campaign in October and April.
It was later adopted by both England men's and women's senior teams as well as clubs from across the football league, though most have since dropped the gesture.
In July the Lionesses announced they would no longer be taking the knee prior to games following abhorrent racist abuse directed towards Jess Carter during their semi-final win over Sweden.
'We stand with Jess and all Lionesses players past and present who have suffered racism.' The team said in a statement.
'No one should have to endure such vile abuse, be that in football or any walk of life.
'Representing our country is the greatest honour. It is not right that while we are doing that some of us are treated differently simply because of the colour of our skin.
'Until now we have chosen to take the knee before matches. It's clear we and football need to find another way to tackle racism. We have agreed as a squad to remain standing before kick-off on Tuesday.
'We hope the game can come together to see what more can be done. For now, we will return our total focus to an important semi-final.'

Tottenham 'open talks for Man City star admired by Thomas Frank' as Spurs look to raid Premier League rivals amid muted transfer window
Tottenham are believed to have began discussions with Manchester City over the recruitment of Savinho as the north London club plot their next move in the transfer window, according to reports. The Europa League champions were quick to change their manager in the aftermath of a decidedly mixed season that saw them win European honours but finish 17th in the Premier League, trading Ange Postecoglou for Brentford head coach Thomas Frank. But their transfer business has given some fans pause, with only a handful of deals done over the summer so far after securing standout forward target Mohammed Kudus from West Ham. Spurs were thwarted in their pursuit of Nottingham Forest 's Morgan Gibbs-White, with the Tricky Trees threatening to report their rivals for an allegedly 'illegal' approach after Tottenham activated the attacking midfielder's £60million release clause. Frank's side have also lost a number of key figures, with talismanic captain Son Heung-min moving to LAFC, and James Maddison suffering an ACL injury which will keep him out for much of the season. But with just under a month left of the window, Tottenham appear to be primed to restart their bid to bolster their attacking ranks. As per Fabrizio Romano, the two Premier League clubs are believed to be in negotiations over the winger, who arrived at the Etihad just one season ago. Frank is thought to see Savinho as an ideal player for his vision for his new club, and the Brazil star is believed to be open to a move south should the opportunity arise. The 21-year-old has been part of the City Football Group eco-system for over three years, with the attacked bought from Atletico Mineiro by City's sister club Troyes in 2022. Savinho then cut his teeth at PSV Eindhoven before a formative loan move to fellow City Football Group club Girona, where he played a key role in their title-chasing 2023-24 season. The player's move to jewel in the organisation's crown came amid a hail of fanfare last July, and Savinho ended the season having made 48 appearances under Pep Guardiola throughout the club's challenging 2024-25 season. Before Tottenham's move for the star, there were few suggestions Man City were keen to offload Savinho, with the player featuring in their Club World Cup campaign - and scoring a goal and registering an additional assist in the United States. In the wake of Maddison's ACL injury, Tottenham have also been keeping tabs on Como star Nico Paz. Mail Sport reported last week while Spurs have not yet made a move for the £52m midfielder, the Argentina international is among their targets as the squad looks for reinforcements centrally.

Video Oliver Glasner used to inspire Crystal Palace to Community Shield triumph revealed
The Crystal Palace boss and his side followed up May's FA Cup triumph at Wembley by defeating the Premier League champions on penalties in the traditional curtain-raiser to the new season Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner inspired his side to Community Shield success by showing them a video of fans celebrating their FA Cup glory. The Eagles took down another giant as they beat Premier League champions Liverpool just 85 days after they shocked Manchester City to win the Cup. Keeper Dean Henderson was the penalty hero again as he saved two spot-kicks - including an incredible one to deny Alexis Mac Allister. Glasner said: 'We showed the players a video before we went to Wembley about the happiness of the fans winning the FA Cup. This is the emotional reward. You can't buy it for all the money in the world. Our fans deserved it. They are always supporting us and pushing the team forward and it is a great connection. We were all rewarded and this stays forever.' Henderson denied Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott in the shootout after Mo Salah skied his spot kick as Palace picked up the trophy in the season's curtain-raiser. The former Manchester United keeper used notes on a water bottle which he hid in his towel. It followed his save from Omar Marmoush when Palace beat City in May to win silverware for the first time in their history. Glasner added: 'We know that dean is a great goalkeeper. The day before the meeting at the hotel with the analysts and the goalkeeper coach they went through all the penalty takers from Liverpool and he is well prepared.' The Palace boss confirmed that defender Marc Guehi came off with cramp rather than injury with the England international linked to a move away before the transfer window closes. Palace will find out today if their CAS appeal on being demoted to the Europa Conference League was successful over joint-ownership issues. 'It will be good to put it behind us but I don't want that to come across as any kind of fatalism,' says chairman Steve Parish. 'I am determined that we will get the right outcome. If we don't get the right outcome, we will have to look at steps after that. "But even more after Friday, I do not understand how we cannot be in that competition. It is up to the judges to decide, we trust them. Let's see.'

Liverpool council hears concerns over bar bids near Everton stadium
Concerns have been raised about the number of licensed premises opening or planned in the shadow of Everton's new stadium. Liverpool Waterfront North councillor Dave Hanratty said the stadium was meant to bring investment but that "the only investment we're getting at the moment is alcohol-licenced premises".He spoke at a licensing meeting where a bid to open a bar named in honour of former Everton manager Howard Kendall was put on hold until a planning dispute could be resolved.A building control officer told the meeting the impact of the wider stadium development would not be known until the ground was in regular use. The plans for the Howard Kendall Suite at Collingwood Dock were discussed at a meeting ahead of Everton's 1-0 defeat to Roma in a pre-season friendly at the 52,000-seater ground on Saturday. A bid by another operator, Mersey View Leisure Ltd, to open another venue in nearby Fulton Street, is set to be heard by licensing chiefs bids have been brought by companies independent of the football club. The Howard Kendall Suite plan was brought by firm Intersky, and would include a bar and restaurant made from shipping containers. According to its website, the business is aiming to provide a "unique and VIP hospitality pre and post-match" for about 170 Douglas, representing the developer, said work that had already begun on site was allowed under "permitted development rights" and did not require council building control officer Peter Jones said that was not correct and the operators had "ignored" the council's advice, prompting enforcement action, the Local Democracy Reporting Service Douglas described Mr Jones' comments as "really unfair". Mr Jones said the Labour-led council might be able to support such ventures in "12 months or a season's time". 'Right balance' Ward councillor Hanratty, Labour, questioned whether the matchday hospitality venue - which would not allow walk-in custom - was right for the decades, the area close to the recently built stadium had been largely made up of industrial sites and warehousing, but in recent years a number of bars and cafes have sprung up, alongside hotel and residential conversions of previously derelict said: "The principal thing is, is this right for the area? The reason for the number of objections is the amount of people living in the Tobacco Warehouse."We have to make sure we have the right balance." He warned how if the area was not managed it could become a "free-for-all", adding: "It's a nice area and we want it to grow." Mr Douglas said the planning issue would be sorted out, and that the applicants knew it was a case of "no planning, no trade".In his objection to the plans for a venue at the former industrial unit in Fulton Street, on the other side of Regent Road, Hanratty said the midnight closing time could be a problem for people living in the area."This is an up-and-coming area and we need to ensure we protect the quality of life for those residents, who could be detrimentally affected."The council needs to have a consistent approach and not have an over-saturation of late-night premises."Licensing chiefs are due to consider the plan later.
