CFO bolsters safeguards against fraudulent marriages and cross-border exploitation
In a statement issued Wednesday, CFO Secretary Dante Ang II said the agency has implemented a watchlist mechanism to identify red flags, prevent exploitative unions, and track individuals involved in illegal matchmaking activities.
'This is more than just a campaign against fraudulent marriages. It is a commitment to uphold the dignity, safety, and rights of every Filipino,' Ang said.
The CFO is currently monitoring 356 individuals flagged for suspicious activities, including 258 foreign nationals, 60 Filipinos, and 38 suspected marriage brokers.
As part of its preventive campaign, the CFO launched a webinar series titled 'Human, Hindi Laruan (Not Toys),' aimed at raising public awareness on how seemingly well-intentioned foreign suitors may serve as fronts for trafficking and abuse. The sessions underscored the importance of vigilance in assessing online and offline romantic engagements.
The webinars also highlighted Republic Act 10906, or the Anti-Mail Order Spouse Act, which criminalizes profiting from the arrangement of marriages between Filipinos and foreign nationals. Participants were warned about matchmaking methods that include informal 'reto' setups, social clubs, and online dating platforms.
Citing data from the United Nations International Organization for Migration, the CFO noted that the Philippines remains one of the world's top migrant-sending countries. Filipino women account for 48.1 percent of all outbound migrants.
As of the latest global estimates, there are around 281 million international migrants, representing 3.6 percent of the global population.

BI to file report with DOJ for probe into fake Philippine documents used by foreigners
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to submit a report to the Department of Justice (DOJ) to launch an investigation into the sources of illegally obtained Philippine documents used by foreign nationals. BI Commissioner Joel Viado raised concern over the increasing use of fake Philippine documents by illegal aliens engaging in business activities in the country. 'The illegal use of Philippine documents is a national security issue that must be addressed at its roots,' Viado said in a news release. The BI's alarm was renewed following the arrest of three SUSPECTED fake Filipinos in separate operations in Pampanga. Among those apprehended was 35-year-old Chinese national Lin Yi, who was arrested on July 31 at a business establishment along Pandan Road in Angeles City. The arrest resulted from an anonymous tip that Lin was operating a carwash business using a Philippine identity. Authorities confiscated a Philippine birth certificate with suspicious late registration, a Philippine ID card, and an official receipt for a driver's license in Lin's possession. He also held a valid working visa under his Chinese identity, which expires in 2027. Two other Chinese nationals, Yan Yize, 30, and Wang Jiangyi, 55, were also arrested — Yan at a residence in Malabanias, Angeles City, and Wang in Barangay Panipuan, Mexico, Pampanga. Both were found using Philippine identities, including late-registered birth certificates, tax identification numbers, and business registrations with the Securities and Exchange Commission. They are reportedly linked to a construction and development firm allegedly involved in land acquisition activities. The foreign nationals remain in BI custody pending deportation proceedings.

11 Filipino Gym Workers in Netherlands File Labor Abuse Case Against Employer

Saints and Stars is not accredited by the Department of Migrant Workers Affairs in Manila for hiring Filipinos abroad. The Philippine Embassy said it will continue coordinating with Dutch authorities to monitor the case, ensure complaints are addressed, and safeguard the welfare of Filipinos in the Netherlands.
