There's a better Nothing Phone 3 variant, and you can't buy it in the US
TL;DR Nothing has confirmed that the Indian version of the Nothing Phone 3 has a 5,500mAh battery.
Other versions of the phone have a slightly smaller 5,150mAh battery.
We're guessing that this discrepancy is related to EU regulations regarding the transport of batteries.
The Nothing Phone 3 finally launched yesterday, and it looks like a well-rounded Android phone with a polarizing design. However, it turns out that one regional variant has a bigger battery.
Nothing confirmed to Android Authority that the Indian version of the Nothing Phone 3 has a 5,500mAh battery. By contrast, other models (including the US variant) have a 5,150mAh battery. This confirmation comes after Nothing's Indian website listed a 5,150mAh battery, but the regional press release and Indian retail listings pointed to a 5,500mAh battery.
In any event, a 5,150mAh battery is still a solid size in 2025 and should ensure respectable endurance. But we're keen to see how much more runtime can be squeezed out of the Indian variant.
Nothing hasn't revealed a reason for this discrepancy, but we're guessing that this is related to European Union (EU) regulations regarding the transport of batteries. After all, Nothing wouldn't be the only brand to release a phone with a smaller battery in Europe. Xiaomi and OnePlus have also released phones with smaller batteries in the EU compared to China, India, or other global markets. These devices include the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, POCO F7, and OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite.
In fact, OnePlus previously explained why last year's Nord CE 4 Lite had a smaller battery in the EU:
Due to applicable laws and regulations in certain European countries regarding the carriage of batteries, there are stringent requirements placed on the transportation and handling of battery cells with the watt-hour rating over 20Wh. As a result of the nominal voltage of our batteries being 3.88V, the OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite will be equipped with a 5,110mAh battery in Europe, instead of the 5,500mAh battery available in other markets.
OnePlus also noted in response to an Android Authority question that the restriction applies to a single battery cell rather than the entire package. This suggests that brands can still offer a large battery in the EU if they opt for a dual-cell design.
In any event, we've asked Nothing why the Indian version of the Nothing Phone 3 has a higher battery capacity than other variants. We'll update our article as soon as the company responds to our query.

Google expands Material 3 Expressive redesign to more Android settings
Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR The latest Android System Intelligence app update brings Material 3 Expressive design changes to more Android settings. The build introduced revamped settings pages for Now Playing, At a Glance, Live Translate, Apps in Search, and Live Captions. These changes are live on devices running the latest Android 16 QPR1 beta update. After rolling out Material 3 Expressive design changes to several apps in recent weeks, Google is now shipping an update for the Android System Intelligence app that introduces several refreshed settings pages for various features powered by the app. The update revamps the Now Playing, At a Glance, Live Translate, Apps in Search, and Live Captions settings in line with the redesigned Settings app introduced with the first Android 16 QPR1 beta update. The new settings pages for these features include updated graphics, more rounded UI elements, bigger buttons, a few updated icons, and new toggles. The settings options are also placed within more visually distinct cards. The following screenshots showcase all the interface changes rolling out with the latest Android System Intelligence release. New Old New Old New Old New Old The Now Playing, Expressive captions, and Android System Intelligence pages now feature updated graphics, and the At a Glance page has a new feature description. Interestingly, the toggle design on these new settings pages is inconsistent. On a few pages, the toggles show a check mark when the feature is enabled and a cross when it's turned off, while on others, it's the same as before. New Old New Old New Old New Old Google has also renamed the 'Show word duration effect' option on the Expressive captions page to 'Lengthen words' and included an updated description that more clearly explains its function. Unlike the Material 3 Expressive updates for the Google Keep, Gmail, Wallet, and Google Phone apps, these refreshed settings pages are currently only available on Pixel devices running the latest Android 16 QPR1 beta release. Users not on the beta release will have to wait until Android 16 QPR1 hits the stable channel to receive these changes. Google is expected to ship the update for its Pixel lineup in September, so it might be a while before these new settings pages appear on your device. Got a tip? Talk to us! EU says it will continue rolling out AI legislation on schedule
The European Union on Friday said it will stick to its timeline for implementing its landmark AI legislation, in response to a concerted effort by over a hundred tech companies to delay the bloc's AI rules, Reuters reported. Tech companies from across the world, including giants like Alphabet, Meta, Mistral AI and ASML have been urging the European Commission to delay rolling out the AI Act, saying it will hurt Europe's chances to compete in the fast-evolving AI arena. 'I've seen, indeed, a lot of reporting, a lot of letters and a lot of things being said on the AI Act. Let me be as clear as possible, there is no stop the clock. There is no grace period. There is no pause,' the report cited European Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier as saying. A risk-based regulation for applications of artificial intelligence, the AI Act bans a handful of 'unacceptable risk' use cases outright, such as cognitive behavioral manipulation or social scoring. It also defines a set of 'high-risk' uses, such as biometrics and facial recognition, or AI used in domains like education and employment. App developers will need to register their systems and meet risk and quality management obligations to gain access to the EU market. Another category of AI apps, such as chatbots, are considered 'limited risk' and subject to lighter transparency obligations. The EU started rolling out the AI Act last year in a staggered fashion, with the full rules coming into force by mid-2026.

KHS enhances inspection technology with AI for tethered cap compliance
KHS, a German turnkey systems provider, has integrated AI into its Innocheck TSI closure inspection unit for tethered cap compliance. Since 2024, tethered caps have been mandatory for all nonreturnable polyethylene terephthalate bottles in the EU, which has led to an increase in the variety of closure designs and the demand on inspection technology. The Dortmund-based company noted that the introduction of tethered caps has required bottle and beverage producers in the EU to adapt to ensure product quality and protection. The growing number of bottle and cap design variants, combined with increasing line capacities, has further complicated inspection processes. KHS added that its AI-based fault detection system for tethered caps uses patent-pending algorithms to analyse high-resolution images of bottle closures in real time. Cameras capture detailed visuals, which AI models evaluate, employing deep learning to adapt to new types of defects. This system enhances both the accuracy and efficiency of inspections. Designed specifically for the Innocheck TSI cap inspector, the AI module is compatible with both new and existing machines. KHS plans to extend AI applications to additional inspection technology equipment in the future. KHS labelling and inspection technology product support executive Nikita Wall said: 'Tethered caps were rarely used before the EU directive came into force. Conventional systems thus frequently reach the limits of their capacity where cap inspection is concerned.' 'Our customers make extremely high demands of quality assurance. In intensive field tests, our AI-based fault detector has proved that it fully meets these requirements. 'In the development team, we're currently discussing which systems this would make sense for. AI solutions are only practical where the requirements are complex -and if they give our customers clear benefits.' "KHS enhances inspection technology with AI for tethered cap compliance" was originally created and published by Packaging Gateway, a GlobalData owned brand.
