‘Sirens' Review: An Island's Money and Mystery on Netflix

From 'Game of Thrones' to 'Family Guy,' the problematic sibling is a prime mover of plotlines, and few are a bigger source of headaches than the delinquent Devon DeWitt of 'Sirens.' An alcoholic with many miles on her drink-o-meter, she claims to be sober, steals opioids out of random medicine chests and has lived a lifestyle of the down, out and dissipated. Yet she looks like actress Meghann Fahy and turns out to be the smartest person in the room.
So abandon all hope of plausibility, ye who enter this five-episode series, though the experience is hardly hellish: You can almost hear the wind chimes and pan flutes and feel the sea mist caressing Cliff House, the bigger-than-Rhode-Island-size manor reigned over by Michaela Kell (an unnervingly pale and brittle Julianne Moore), a goddess in her own mind. It is here, maybe on Nantucket, that Devon has come to fetch her long-estranged sister, Simone (Milly Alcock, 'House of the Dragon'), who has risen from their lowly shared station in life to become Michaela's executive assistant, gofer, companion and—maybe—friend. Devon doesn't trust the woman. Should we?

Thousands Fill Nation's Capital for WorldPride Parade With Reneé Rapp, Laverne Cox, Gay Men's Chorus & More

Gray skies and drizzle gave way to sunshine, multicolored flags and celebrations as the nation's capital held the WorldPride parade Saturday (June 7). Tens of thousands of people participated in parades and other festivities, in defiance of what activists say is an unprecedented assault on the LGBTQ+ community that challenges the rights for which many have fought over the years. Behind them, people waved Pride flags and flags representing the transgender, asexual and bisexual communities from atop a bus. Singer-songwriter and actor Reneé Rapp laughed and blew kisses from the back of a pickup truck draped with a transgender flag while Laverne Cox, a transgender actress and activist known for her role in Netflix's Orange is the New Black, waved from an open convertible. 'Pride means us looking out for each other no matter what,' she declared to the crowd as the convertible rolled to a stop. 'We know how to be there for each other.' Many LGBTQ+ travelers have expressed concerns or decided to skip WorldPride due to anxieties about safety, border policies and a hostile political climate that they say hearkens back to another time. But that did not keep international travelers and other participants away, with groups visible from Iran, Namibia, Kenya and the parade route, hundreds gathered outside the National City Christian Church as rainbow flags and balloons lined its steps and columns. A child with rainbow face paint blew bubbles at the base of the steps while Whitney Houston's 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody' blared from loudspeakers. 'D.C. is already one of the biggest cities in the country for celebrating Pride,' said Cheo White, 33, from Annapolis, Maryland, 'But we are all collectively more united and turning out more because of what's happening in the White House.' Many have said the gathering has taken on a new meaning amid the Trump administration's aggressive policies against protections for transgender Americans and diversity, equity and inclusion programs. White's partner, Nick Kerver, 26, who was visiting from Toledo, Ohio, said Pride has 'always been a political tool' but has taken on more importance this year amid mounting threats to the LGBTQ+ community, especially transgender and nonbinary Americans. 'It feels more important than ever,' Kerver said while wearing a rainbow hat, sunglasses and a T-shirt. 'But we also have to get involved in our local communities too.' David Begler, a 58-year-old gay man from Philadelphia, expressed disappointment that many international travelers felt unsafe visiting D.C. for WorldPride but said he appreciates its presence in the city during this political climate. 'It's the perfect time to have WorldPride in D.C.,' Begler said. 'We need it right now. I want us to send a message to the White House to focus on uplifting each other instead of dividing.' Stay DeRoux, 36, usually plans a day trip to D.C. Pride from her home in Fredericksburg, Virginia. But this year, she and her wife, Deenie DeRoux, planned a full weekend. 'This is a really big year,' Stay DeRoux said. 'There's been a lot of turmoil. So it's an amazing thing to be among allies, among people who love because we've experienced so much hate on a daily basis.' For the day, the idea of threats and opposition took a backseat to the celebration. Streets were closed, but filled with floats, and impromptu parties broke out with music and food in streets adjoining the parade route. Cynthia Erivo was set to perform on the Capitol Stag following the parade. Johnny Cervantes Jr., dressed in a black suit and top hat, headed to a grandstand at a church-themed float to marry his partner of 28 years, Freddie Lutz, owner of Freddie's Beach Bar and Restaurant in Arlington, Virginia. Events culminate Sunday with a rally and protest march and a giant street party and concert (headlined by Doechii) covering a multi-block stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue. 'This is WorldPride in the best city in the world,' Mayor Muriel Bowser declared as she walked the parade hand-in-hand with her daughter, Miranda. The Cast of 'The Goonies' Celebrates the Movie's 40th Anniversary: 'Never Say Die'

The cast of The Goonies marked the movie's 40th anniversary on June 7 on social media Corey Feldman, Sean Astin and Ke Huy Quan were among the stars who took a moment to reflect on the major milestone Feldman documented his nostalgic visit to Astoria, Oregon, where the 1985 movie was filmedThe Goonies turns 40! To mark the 1985 movie's 40th anniversary on Saturday, June 7, several actors from the cast shared social media tributes. Ke Huy Quan, who played Data, shared a clip on his Instagram Stories in which Sean Astin's character Mikey gives his inspiring "Goonies never say die" speech to the group of friends. He wrote over it, "Happy 40th my fellow Goonies! Thinking of you today." Astin, meanwhile, posted a collage of photos from the movie's set on his Instagram Stories with the message, "NEVER SAY DIE." He also shared the same movie clip as Quan, 53, and wrote over it: "40 Years Ago. Love You Goonies." Corey Feldman celebrated the milestone by making a nostalgic visit to Astoria, Oregon — where the movie was filmed — with his girlfriend, Adrien Skye. He shared photos and videos from his trip down memory lane on Instagram, along with a lengthy message for fans. "HEY U GUYS..... ITS THE GOONIES 40TH ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND HERE IN ASTORIA OREGON, HERES PT 1 OF MY ADVENTURES. ITS A COLLECTION OF VIDS & PICS OF ME TOURING AROUND ASTORIA THE PAST FEW DAYS. SHOWING THE OLD LOCATIONS 2 MY GF @adrienskye_," he wrote. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Corey Feldman (@cdogg22) Feldman, 53, went on to share that he found "an actual DVD" of the movie in a local rental store and also toured the "famous & possibly haunted" Flavel House Museum, where Mikey's dad worked as a curator. Addressing the 40th anniversary specifically, he wrote: "I WOULDN'T MISS THE CHANCE 2 CONGRATULATE ALL MY FELLOW CAST & CREW MEMBERS ON BUILDING A 40 YR LEGACY, BUT I ALSO WANTED 2 THANK ALL OF U 4 ALL THE #LOVE! [HONESTLY] WALKING AROUND THIS TOWN IS BLOWING MY MIND, I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS 4 ANY FILM, EVER!" The Goonies stars Astin, Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Kerri Green, Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano last reunited at Awesome Con in April for a panel moderated by PEOPLE's Breanne L. Heldman. There, the cast confirmed that they'd love to be a part of the Goonies sequel, which is currently in development with director Steven Spielberg; original screenwriter Chris Columbus is also attached to the project. The late Richard Donner directed and co-wrote the original film. "We love that Steven Spielberg is engaged and back in the Goonies mindset, so that's exciting for all of us, and whatever happens, we hope that it's worth it," Feldman, 53, said at Awesome Con. "We hope that everybody has a great adventure. Keep the adventure alive." Plimpton, 54, added, "I think [fans are] going to see The Goonies 2, whether we're in it or not. I think that's pretty obvious. At least, I hope [they] will." The cast also reunited in February to celebrate Ke Huy Quan's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Feldman, Greene, Jeff Cohen and Josh Brolin gathered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles to honor Quan's inspiring film career. Brolin, 57, gave a heartfelt speech in Quan's honor at the ceremony. "I could not be happier for you. I know we all are, all us Goonies here for an honor that is not only totally deserved but celebrates all that is right in this industry," he said. Later that day, there was another Goonies reunion at the premiere of action flick Love Hurts, which Quan, 53, starred in alongside Astin, 54. Quan shared that he would love to revisit his iconic role as Data. 'It's one of the most asked questions in my life. I would love for it to happen," Quan said at the premiere. Before this year's stream of Goonies reunions, the last time the cast got together was for a virtual fundraiser in 2020. Read the original article on People

Elon Musk's Estranged Daughter Seemingly Relishes Trump Fallout: 'Such Beauty In Life'

Elon Musk's estranged daughter Vivian Wilson seems to be relishing the public fallout between her father and President Donald Trump — understandably so, as the tech billionaire previously stated that Wilson is 'dead' to him for coming out as trans and legally changing her name. Wilson's supposed glee at the ongoing political feud kicked off this week in the form of two Instagram posts that multiplemediaoutlets captured before they expired for public viewing. 'I do not want to comment. I love being proven right,' said Wilson in the first clip Thursday through laughter, per People. The second post — accompanied by a Chase Icon song titled 'Job Application'— included a screenshot of a Threads postin which Wilson simply wrote, 'Such beauty in life.' Musk, the CEO of Tesla, spent millions to help fuel Trump's reelection, but began criticizing the president last month over the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates would add $2.4 trillion to the national deficit over the next 10 years. The feud reached a peak Thursday when Musk posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the reason the Jeffrey Epstein files haven't been released is because Trump is in them. Epstein, a financier, died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Musk has since deleted his post, which prompted colorful reactions from critics — including his daughter. Wilson has long distanced herself from her father. The 21-year-old changed her legal name in 2022, opting for the surname of her mother Justine Wilson, and is one of 14 known children Musk has had with four different women. Musk said in 2024 that his transgender daughter was 'killed by the woke mind virus.' Wilson responded at the time by noting she looks 'pretty good for a dead bitch,' and hasn't relented against Musk since. She has not only called him a 'serial adulterer' and fake Christian, but slammed his 'Nazi salute shit' after Musk's appearance at Trump's inauguration event in January.
